so what's good in solicits

surely there's nothing else in comics to talk about today

#teamrucka

>“STATE OF FEAR” part one! Following a harrowing battle with a monster from beyond the stars, Green Lantern Jessica Cruz decides to unwind by taking on another unbelievable challenge: overcoming her anxiety and asking The Flash out on a date!

>“TRICK OR TREAT!” Rookie Green Lanterns Simon Baz and Jessica Cruz face their most daunting mission yet: a night of Halloween trick or treating with Simon’s young nephew and a on-the-run Guardian of the Universe.

protect the smiles of these dumb rookies

well Sup Forums officially hates rucka now

And the solicits were interesting
Monster Men cover looks pretty fun, Young Animal looks great, the new minis look good mostly, no Prez or Supersons still

Hello Storyteller.

>bonus story
>takes place earlier in continuity
... Okay then. A might odd, but whatever.

ESCAPE FROM DINOSAUR ISLAND
KING DOING BATMAN AND SUICIDE SQUAD
GREEN LANTERNS TRICK OR TREAT
KID FLASH OF TWO WORLDS

I'm not head over heels with rebirth but those books

Some fine T&A

The only Rucka/Cho take you'll need:

twitter.com/KurtBusiek/status/753667404136198144
twitter.com/KurtBusiek/status/753686753987264512

Honestly both sides are probably happy now so I find it hard to make a big deal over it. People will disagree sometimes professionally, whatever.

How is this book so cute?

I have some generic sympathy with "why am I getting micromanaged by someone who's not my boss", but Busiek had a pretty even take on it.

so much Hal

This Cho/Rucka thing is irritating every single place it is happening.

the thing I am 10000% over is either pro- or anti- whoever thinkpieces, be it "ZOMG SJWs" or "VICTORY FOR WOMEN"

I thought Brandon Graham also had a fairly even take, albeit he lays blame with DC as a company and has a personal dislike for Cho's art.

Even with the leak I don't think we have the full solicits yet. Only saw a few trades and no statues or anything.

I expect Prez Oct/Nov and think Super Sons is stealth cancelled though.

Have you bought your Kenan today?

Also

Don't forget Dick having another presumably older man like him

>“RISE OF RAPTOR” part one! The Parliament of Owls wasn’t brought to justice like Raptor promised Nightwing-it was eliminated! Raptor’s methods have crossed the line and Nightwing goes to apprehend him. Upon his arrival he discovers Raptor’s true intentions and obsessions…

the outrage schadenfreude is too sweet to resist

my crackpot theory is Super Sons is getting relaunched at And the Legion

>KID FLASH OF TWO WORLDS

I'm angry it's taking so long to get here. Fucking 8 part first arc.

>Faith Erin Hicks, Ed Brubaker and Kurt Busiek all commiserate about the perils of work for hire on characters you love
That is a SAD tweet thread, user.

I hope double shipping didn't convince him and other writers to do 7+ issue long arcs

I think I was talking to you in the solicit thread where I was bootyblasted about Chris and didn't want Damian anywhere near the Legion.

IDK, I was kind of excited by "Rucka WW" but the three issues out have completely underwhelmed me, so I'll probably ignore it for a few months.

...

I hate how decompressed it is too

Oneshot and #1 could've been one issue imo

I thought the one this week was better than the others, but 1) it's the origin again 2) taking the origin to the point of meeting Steve in one issue was faster-paced than the rest so far. That is slow going.

Ditto, I was so thrilled for it, and it's not bad, but...

>not mentioning Psycho Pirate in Batman

It's made me think back over what Rucka we've read with a more critical eye, and he does take his time to get moving, don't he

I have a lot less tolerance for that now unless you're setting a lot of shit up in each issue and payoff is promised and then delivered.

bang

Probably, and that's a fine position. poor chris

Too hype for King writing Waller and the Squad.

I think it's very "this is Wonder Woman from the ground up and this is how she is and should be written" and that's just never gonna happen for any one creator in cape comics, even the guy who actually invents the character.

comicbookroundup.com/comic-books/reviews/marvel-comics/civil-war-ii/3

> CWII getting shitty reviews
> It has less reviews than rebirth #2s
bueno

Johns arbitrarily aging up the Babby Guardians Kyle created was a mistake.

That trick or treating story sounds adorable. Jessica's gonna get her heart broken. The Flash is back, and he's a hardcore Barry/Iris shipper. The Flash eill not let the Flash date a Green Lantern.

Same desu. I've never cared much for Wondy and what I've seen of this run isn't making me change my mind.

King having Batman only confronting Strange in issues #7 and #8 is actually slower-paced than I thought that storyline was going to be, too.

I loved the Scott issue but the Sharp ones didn't do much for me. Glad I'm trade waiting since I can just get her arc and bounce.

>Bang! Zoom!

It does depend on how much is packed into each issue--if it's that put off, I expect maybe some serious subplots/B-plots are getting going

that's some fun taste you've got there

Well Monster Men taking up time.

I never expected it but i'm super invested in Jessica/Barry happening and I know I'll be crushed

The only GL Barry should date is Hal

Well he said it's a 22 issue storyline so yeah

And Omega Men was a slow burner too. It took like 4 issues for it to get really going

>New Superman
Why is she so perfect?

Monster Men seems like it plays into the plot - which is good, don't get me wrong. RIP Gotham.

I didn't make it out of the house today to go to my shop

The Flintstones solicit made my day, AGAIN.

It was, but that opening 8 pages were a dynamite hook

But Hal should remain pure for Sinestro

i was anti king when he just came on the scene because i didn't like the early omega men issues, i only came around when Vision happened. I was wrong.

I cannot believe Flintstones is a real thing. It's just amazing.

Ty ty

Because she's Chinese bootleg Maria Hill

I think Omega Men was very good with the space it took. I mean extreme hook in the preview, and the first issue ends with quite a lot having happened - just not a lot done by Kyle.

I'm putting Flintstones on my pull even though it's $3.99, because it's really surprisingly something

oh my god that flying method for Batsy

>In the end, what's the point of spending money to read a comic that has little more to say than what's already been spoiled by the publisher?
this is an excellent point
The Hulk dying spoilers aside, with all the preview catalogues and certain solicits, we vaguely know what's going to happen to some characters by the end of the event.
So the only reason to read it would be to see HOW it all happens, but if the how is written like shit, then there is no point?

Haha, Bruce, what a ass

I can't believe it got mixed reviews.

I can't believe some people seemed to want the cartoon.

Hey, when did Guy stop being squeaky clean goody two shoes?

>if the how is written like shit
I don't even know what they're going to get four more issues out of

I get the feeling Russell would be extremely good on like, a Swamp Thing or an Animal Man.

>Because she's Chinese bootleg Maria Hill
Honestly, that was the very first thought I had when she appeared. "What's Maria Hill doing in this book?". And then she basically turns out to be similar in character too. I eagerly await more SCIENCE!!! from Kenan's possibly evil boss.

>She's not my type.
Kenan. Get you some taste, dude.

>yfw Bendis flashbacks the actual conflict in the final issue after six issues of decompression

i realized last night the genius of the event, it's just bendis doing shock pages for 8 issues. the war hasn't even started!

....fuck

This takes place before ONE PUNCH.

this is a flashback story, unless you mean when in the future then I'm not sure

It's probably just going to be a couple more issues of arguing, some flashbacks to shit that justifies the use of Ulysses, and then everybody has their side by #5 or #6, and then they just go to town on each other like action figures being smashed together

Kenan is worst boy, that's why he's best boy

man it's literally gonna be "Ulysses sees them all fighting. They all start fighting"

Has Bendis ever scripted an issue where the fighting/action parts were interesting because of the writing and you could tell?

>Ulysses' final vision is of darkness
>double page full black spread

Why has decompression gotten so out of control? Do writers/editors not realize that readers got lives?

>nerds
>lives
Oh. Wait....

I put in that qualifier because, compare some of the Millar "hey, go nuts here" things with, say, Yale/Ostrander Manhunter wherein the dialogue clearly matched the flow of the action in details, etc.

Because length is easy, concision is difficult (as I discover writing to word count) and you have to go over things repeatedly to cut fat and yet make sure it flows.

I've seen arguments that nerdism is the fear of life.

>some flashbacks to shit that justifies the use of Ulysses
this is the most hilarious thing to me

like if they didn't tell us that CW2 was shat out in 3-4 months, THIS would be the thing that told me how rushed this event was

there is no build up at ALL except for a few books unnecessarily having 1-2 part "Road to Civil War 2" issues

if it were thought out like the rest of their events and some dc events, they'd have the incidents be more organic and naturally occurring rather than little flashbacks

#3 was so fucking bad

I'm kinda hoping Hal and Carol get back together finally

sh-she said his name, it might happen ;_;

Why tell more stories when you can tell fewer?

Who needs lives when we've got our fellow owls?

uhoh

All owls and no life makes Lucas a Midnighter.

>When I was at Wizard, Frank Cho routinely sent unsolicited pornography to the writer who was his contact at the mag

hoot hoot

now that is harassment.

It's not about less or more, it's about telling stories where stuff actually happens. Substance, not length.

>I'm kinda hoping Hal and Carol get back together finally
Okay no, to hell with any romance shit. First let's get Carol back on track, then we can think about hooking her up with Hal. Does anyone but us even remember that she builds airplanes for a living?

Bendis said on tumblr CW2 3 was written a year ago

I wonder if he drew it himself, or if it was just the porn he had lying around. Honestly, if he did this to Rucka the whole situation is explained.

if they could do both at once, that'd be nice. "Carol is shown being a competent adult which helps lead to her and Hal having a mutually satisfying relationship"

why the fuck did I never get my Hal/Carol Space Adventures book

It's like watering down juice, you could have one rich glass or you add water to have 2-3 ok glasses.

Didn't Brevoort back in Januaryish say CW2 was thought up 3-4 months prior?

>Far away on the planet Meta, Loma’s going nowhere fast. She’s dropped out of school, dumped her boyfriend, and is bored out of her mind. She longs to feel things. That’s where her idol, the lunatic poet Rac Shade, and his infamous madness coat come it. Loma steals the garment and makes a break across galaxies to take up residence in a new body: Earth girl Megan Boyer. Surely everything will be better on this passionate primitive planet with a dash of madness on her side and this human girl’s easy life. Only now that she’s here, Loma discovers being a teenaged Earth girl comes with its own challenges and Earth may not be everything she thought it’d be. Megan Boyer was a bully whom everyone was glad was almost dead, and now Loma has to survive High School and navigate the consequences of the life she didn’t live with the ever-growing and uncontrollable madness at her side. Not to mention that there are people back on her homeworld who might just want Shade’s coat back.
>Megan Boyer was a bully whom everyone was glad was almost dead

Why do all the Young Animal solicits look so good and why don't I have infinite money?

>First let's get Carol back on track, then we can think about hooking her up with Hal. Does anyone but us even remember that she builds airplanes for a living?
That's fair, they haven't known what to do with her in ages

I'm hoping Venditti can get his shit together and do her some justice this time instead of just having her show up occasionally to be an asshole to Hal but I'm not holding my breath

...

>why the fuck did I never get my Hal/Carol Space Adventures book
we don't deserve nice things, apparently

that's what they SHOULD have done after Johns left, but nooo

;____;

twitter.com/robertliefeld/status/753638780578312193

there's one POV

imagine if GL was sold as the power couple book at that time instead of SMWW

love that bottom half

Unlike SM/WW, I actually would've read that.

HNNNNNNNNNG, and coming off the popularity of Johns GL, it could have worked.

>they haven't known what to do with her in ages
Not to sound arrogant, but I know exactly what to do with her. Have her make spaceships. She's getting kinda used to this whole space adventures thing, right? And she has access to highly advanced technology which she could use to take advantage of Earth's severe lacking in space travel tech.

You've got Carol's own hangups with space shit vs her inner ruthless businesswoman. Various Ferris Air employees make a for an easily crafted supporting cast. The board of directors can serve as devils on the shoulder. Bring in some military types who want to strike a deal to weaponize the new tech. This shit damn near writes itself, so just do that.

Also, there's more than one kind of Love, DC. Maybe try exploring that a little.

>there's more than one kind of Love, DC. Maybe try exploring that a little.
YES THAT

now I want, IDK, a Carol book with the level of thoughtfulness of Nate's old run

lewd

...

I don't know if the crop makes a difference, it's still ugly to me. I don't feel like these covers have been his best work and the emotional stuff behind the scenes would explain it.

Some mad user made Holy Terror into an actual Batman story. It's something to behold

He seemed super excited to land the gig so it felt kinda weird he wasn't bringing his A-game
