I feel bad for liking Overture 1812.
Don't. Liking Tchaikovsky is patrician. Pretending he's shit is the ultimate bad taste criterion.
Also try his earlier symphonies (1-3) they're quite underrated.
He's probably saying that because it was a composition that Tchaikovsky wrote because he needed money, and he hated it.
Kind of like how he hated the 5th because it's melodramatic and explosive.
Have some romantic piano.

>tfw zarzuela feels like a chinese knock off of real opera
Tchaikovsky was a well known pedophile though, who unironically led a youth choir and directed an orphanage.
I guess the nights were wild in Moscow back then.
>tfw England has practically no significant classical music.
at least we have progressive rock.

well, no, in fact it was more for patriotic reasons, but it's stilll awesome
Well he wrote it because it was a commission, not because he wanted, he considered it loud and simple.
I assumed the commission was for money which I see now was wrong.
Te Deum, de Marc-Antoine Charpentier

Posting reasonable lenght pieces from two of our most appreciated composers, this is Silvestre Revueltas, the bulk of his work is from the 1930's, the opening to a piece called the Night of the Maya

And one for piano and violin which I'm fond of

This is Julian Carrillo, he came up with his own theory/system for microtonal music, while he wrote some conventional pieces his music does have a sort of psychodelic quality
