it kinda worked on concept art when it was a clear mix of Android18 and Gunnm. But the animation team couldn't really make it work with their more limited skill.

It was animated just fine. First season was rough, sure, but it got better as it went along.

I really like both the show and the character designs. They were unique ans different from all the other shit airing back in 05 06 (I think that's when it came out atleast)

The plot was decent too. Despite all the filler episides the main story was interesting.

I didn't like the 2nd season as much as the first and I feel like William was a wasted or just plain unnecessary character. I loved his weapon though. It's definitely what I would want title a weapon in Lyoko.
I'm assuming they saved him at the end? I didn't see the last few episides so idk how it ended.

I don't think they are garbage, it has to do with a certain style some french artist use (you know, big heads, slim bodies).

I loved the show, I had mixed feelings about the live-action sequel, if only they would have dubbed it in english (at all, only one episode was ever seen) using the original dubbing cast, that would have been perfect.

I don't even care about the designs as much as I thought the show was fucking incomprehensible. Couldn't ever figure out what the hell the show was even *about* until I consulted the internet and frankly the dubbing made it seem like it was less in English than if they'd kept the French audio.

I mean, a decent, well projected plot can't *always* save a show with questionable designs and aesthetics (unless you're Phantom 2040,) but it would've certainly helped Lyoko.

The first season was more confusing than the second in my opinion, in the second season we actually had a sort of mystery they were suppose to solve outside the main plot arc of finding a way to free Aelita from the Computer... after that the third and fourth became "too much complex" for the show's own good, though I still liked them.

Agreed, William was unnecessary. I think they just added him in to be a hypotenuse for the Ulrich/Yumi love triangle that went nowhere.

He wasn't unnecessary, he provided a good spark to the Yumi and Ulrich situation, and gradually grew into his own as a separate character (as seen in the zombie episode where he was by far the most sensible). Real problem is that they have him get nabbed by XANA too quickly, and then the moment he's legitimately back to normal, the gang shits on him like he willingly joined the darkside.

If I had to rate the live action sequel show I'd give it a solid "It alright."

Making a live action version of anything is almost always a bad idea and they had a ridiculous cast but it still had its moments. Also i believe it ended on a cliff hanger with Aelitas mom being alive and working for a rivaling company of whatever the factory used to be.

If you have time I'd say give it a watch.

She was pretty much forced to work for this clown because (somehow) marrying her apparently would allow him access to Franz's work legally. If I'm not mistaken, she was also good in the live action, versus the books where she became evil for whatever reason.

Because aside from the purple one, the other three actually look like plausible designs for school kids. Doesn't make their gigantic fucking foreheads any less disturbing to look at, but still.
