The Great X-Men Storytime - Vol. 3: New Mutants (Part 42)

Now this would've made one hell of a beat-em-up.

PREVIOUSLY ON X-MEN:

...

...

Never heard of this one.
Here's hoping it's good.

...

Oh, the Zodiac.
Now I've got a bad feeling about this.

Well, it's Archie Goodwin and Chaykin in his prime, so it can't be THAT bad, right?

i fucking hate Zodiac

...

I guess there is a chance it will be good, but every run in I've had with the Zodiac has been far from positive.

...

Did you know there was a punisher beat-em-up and Nick Fury was p2?

...

Sup Forums super underrates Prime Chaykin

I'm gearing up to eventually storytime Avengers and Celestial Madonna. gonna be rough

Yep! Hence my comment. Loved that game.

local arcade had it, I always played Fury.

Dat belt whip move b4 Ennis

...

Dare I ask when?

...

dunno yet. it's got that rambling quality so there's a lot

Oh I thought you were going to say it was going to be part of the over hyped weekend of pain 2.

oh no, it's not that bad. just weird because it's from the 70s hippie Marvel group.

...

...

...

Still better/worse than what I've got planned, I know nothing about downloading comics without getting in trouble son I'll just find some cringe comic on DA or just the first 100 pages of Assigned Male.

...

...

Man there's some tone whiplash between the Nick stuff and the X-Men stuff here at the start

I've got that weird and porny Phoenix comic with art from the best of How to Draw Manga. Should be fun.

Has Marvel ever not been "hippie"???
Don't get me wrong, I'm all for more of the damned liberal hippie comics...
But are you saying it used to be even more so than it is now-a-days?

...

thanks for your storytimes X-user, I liked discoverting Northstar is a real character and not just wallpaper who is gay.

Read some Starlin Warlock, shit got cray-cray.

Hey, no problem, man! That's why I'm here for, to introduce more people to the X-Men and their ever expanding universe!

...

I mean like prime hippie. Early 70s. Guys like Englehart, Gerber, Starlin. i post this on Sup Forums all the time but they'd like wander NYC at night stoned/fucked up and come up with stories. No real editorial looking over your shoulder. I think this was also when you could be the editor on a book you wrote which meant 2 paychecks.

...

...

So how are you guys doing tonight?

What the fuck is that? He wasn't "wallpaper gay" after they did the coming out story, and F.Y.I.: in case you didn't read the past Alpha Flight threads closely enough, he was always light in the loafers.

...

...

It's amazing that those were the beloved years that the longtime fans yearn for a return to.
(It's such a simple secret to success...)

...

...

of course they bond over beer. i keep wondering if gateway is gonna show up

hey good books came out back then, and mind bending stuff game changing stuff. we're just used to it now.

course there was also self indulgent garbage.

...

...

...

>I know nothing about downloading comics without getting in trouble
Just download them? What's the problem?

...

I know I'm being pedantic, but that's not the Scorpio zodiac symbol, it's just a picture of a scorpion.

...

He didn't seem that skinny to me.

...

lol

...

Good, you?

...

Pretty well all things considered, although my poor dog got an ear infection so he's kinda touchy right now because his, er, therapy is a bit intrusive.

...

...

...

...

...

...

...

...

...

...

...

...

...

...

...

there are some great pages in this.

...

Yeah, Chaykin used to be real good. Shame about his art nowadays.

...

...

...

...

That tends to happen to all artists, it's weird.
Unless the cut off their ear and die young the spark always seems to fade.

Logan doesn't fuck around.

...

True, although I still dig Mignola's stuff, even if it's pretty different nowadays.

the middle panels on the last page are fucking fantastic

...

Sir, there is an entire list of ladies who would say otherwise...

...

How many wolverine minis were there in the 80s?

Teehee

i like how this subtly plays into X-men themes what with prejudice and all

Not as many as there were in the 90's.

Anyway, that' all for tonight, more tomorrow!

Thanks for posting! nice quick little story. Fury and Wolverine are a good pairing.

To tell you the truth, I prefer them writing it as subtlety to the Purifiers kicking down their front door or the Sentinels being deployed.
IRL it's rarely overt when that shit happens, it's always some nasty little comment when somebody leaves a room, or victim-blaming with the assumption that everyone will automatically agree with them.

i mean it's a spectrum.

Hey, given that Original Sins made it canon that Nick Fury (classic) was old and using L.M.D.s for a while, what are the chances that this story's Nick was the real deal?

Well, I don't know where to download them, what is/isn't safe, or even how torrents work, so I don't think I'll be doing that.
