Ayoade broke down the reason why they're so annoyed - BBC is basically running a scam. They're a publicly funded channel, so they're not allowed to run advertisements. But they DO want to talk to celebrities on their channel.
Celebrities do these interviews out of a contractual obligation to promote their movie/book/whatever. So they are literally bound by contract to ADVERTISE, and nothing else, in these interviews.
BBC brings in this clown with the assignment of making the interview appear to be a legitimate journalistic interview by asking questions unrelated to the movie being promoted. They're not just getting pissed because he's asking personal questions, but because he's basically forcing them to break their own contracts.
