The Great X-Men Storytime of Pain - Matt Fraction's X-Men (Part 1)

We interrupt this storytime for an important message: SDCC is here, and so is the Weekend of Pain! So, let's read one of the worst X-Men runs ever!

Love ya! ^3°

NO BRAKES ON THE PAIN TRAIN

>even X-user delivering pain

this is the opposite of nice

Not doing Austen? You pussy.

Austen has already been storytimed 100% this year

That's right, it's a LAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAND storytime!

So was Marville (because I suggested it during my Genis storytime), and yet...

I may do The Draco later, but Austen's so overdone at this point desu

Is this the one with I HATE THAT HEDGEHOG

WAIT WHAT.
WASNT AUSTEN THE WORST ?

ISNT THIS THE RUN WHERE PIXIE GET FUCKED BY ROBOTNIK ? CAN SOMEONE POST THAT PIC ?

Land draws women as if they were being crucified on an invisible cross.

...

This does look like that run, yeah.

Austen IS the worst (IMO), but not the only bad one. Also, yes.

Matt Fraction's X-Men is in no way one of the worst X-Men runs ever. You have no taste.

Lobdell
Austen
Aaron
Brubaker
Milligan (X-Men not X-Force/Statix)
Bendis

Fraction was, at best, aggressively mediocre.

Somebody make Deadpool of Pain

...

X-user you are my hero

Fraction is pretty awful, senpai.

Lets remember the san francisco era.

where Pixie was being used a lot and was part of the main x-men book.

where the x-kids of new x-men were important and not background.

"draws"

Oh, and the art doesn't help either.

...

...

Do you guys think we will hear news about the Legion tv show in SDCC ?

...

I hope so, they've been awfully vague about it so far. Maybe some news on the Morlocks show too.

Jesus, these faces.

Angel is supposedly the most beautiful man in the world.

...

...

Welcome to hell.

...

Let's make it a nice, comfy hell!

...

So many cape artists don't know how to draw pretty boys. Although this is Land, so he could have just found a pretty male celebrity to trace.

...

...

Speaking of hell, are we also doing "your a mutant from biblical times"?

...

>Land draws women as if they were being fucked by an invisible man on an invisible couch.

Fixed.

X-Men sure does eat a lot of writers alive, though.

Brubaker openly says it's the cape work of his he likes the least.

Maybe! I'll have to see what fits into my schedule and what doesn't, we're not reading all of Fraction's run, for example.

If you guys have any recommendations or anything you'd "like" to see, I'd love to hear that too!

...

San Francisco was barely a goddamn blip as I remember it.

It lasted what, like a year? In some decompressed as hell stories?

this Emma looks like some traced Yannick Paquette woman.

One of the later Fraction X-Men issues was drawn by Paquette iirc.

...

Fuck, how do you fuck up anatomy that hard when you're fucking tracing everything.

...

Whats so painful about this? So far its been better than the current uncanny book. Its fun.

Hey now, Dodson's pretty good... which is why I'm skipping all of the stuff he drew!

Give it some time, it gets worse as it goes on.

Nah, that's how the Dodsons have drawn Emma since the 90s.

...

>Whats so painful about this? So far its been better than the current uncanny book.

That's more telling of how bad the X-Books have gotten by now.

This isn't good by any measure.

...

Lobdell wrote plenty of good X-Men stuff you idiot. Generation X alone puts him as a far better X-Men writer than Fraction ever was and that's not to mention some pretty good issues in the main book i.e. Uncanny #300, the one where Jubilee and Xavier spend the day together, Colossus' death, etc. He wasn't the greatest but he was far from the worst. X-Men got even shittier after he left. You have Kelly, Seagle, Davis, Claremont 2, Casey, Austen, Claremont 3, Bru, Fraction... it's a lot of shit for Uncanny (although I think Seagle was Adjectiveless) until you get to Gillen's run, then it goes back to shit with Bendis.

...

...

...

...

...

...

...

...

Fagtion is awful than Lobdell. At least what Lobdell wrote was fun.

...

Is this leading where I think it's going to lead?

...

I've never read this before. It's weird seeing Terry and Greg alternate like this. The difference in their skill is pretty damn jarring.

Now the fun really begins!

Yes

...

...

...

...

It was the best sex of my life

>That Triple H pose in the last panel.

>Psychic supervixen
...well, thanks for that, Fraction?

X-user wh-why? I loved you...

That's not really how people kiss, but we won't hold that one against Mr. Land now will we?

Try to make a drinking game out of all the orgasmo-faces Lands "draws" in this comic. I dare you.

I loved you too, user, but I want in on the fun, dammit!

X-user was always going to have to run this, user.

You know how this story ends. In tears, pain, and Attilanic gas chambers.

...

I'm pretty proud of how I called that volume desu

Cyclpos' little jetpack on this cover will never not be funny.

...

Why can't Scott stop smiling
Are you OK, Scott
Do you need anything

...

...

Why is Fraction's run so disliked?

Except for the Land art, its generally "okay". Not really GOOD, but not Bad either. which isn't a terrible thing for the most part, especially after following up Brubaker's run which was painfully boring.

...

...

...

You really shouldn't make assault victims that sexy, Greg Land.

...

>Save the Human Race!
>From those

>Couldn't even trace a Domme properly

Land is the worst.

I have several problems with it that I won't go into much detail since I'm posting a comic right now, but personally I'm not a fan of his humorous, cheeky voice that didn't really gel well with either the place the X-Men were at at the moment or even the tone of his own stories, not to mention a lot of the voices didn't feel right for the characters they supposedly belonged to, similarly to Bendis but slightly less annoying. A lot of these early stories feel kind of middling and the run as a whole feels pointless, like Fraction didn't have anything worth saying about the X-Men at all. Of course, the biggest offender is Land, who made this run near unreadable.

...

>likes girls
Thanks, Fraction, that was really necessary.
Also, way to fuck up Karma's psychic thingamabob, Land.

Can't Land even trace nipples properly?
