>No charisma, no personability, shit monologues.
I agree, but ratings say otherwise.
Who cares? You didn't have to watch it.

Guy had a real appreciation for technology prowess.

Guys owns a working, worthy steam engine. that was an significant aid economically from the powers that be in Europe.

OJ Simpson jokes.

No, seriously. His ENTIRE shtick during the 90s was "Dude, OJ LMAO" even before the murder.

C H E C C

My uncle used to trade cars with him

You know how when you watch old Carsons, half of him seems savvy like Letterman, and half of him seems really conservative and cornball? Well, most of America was watching for the latter aspect, not the former. Hence Leno. And Letterman himself lost a lot of edge when he went to CBS to occupy the Carson equivalent spot.

Jay Leno never spent his Tonight Show salary, but lived entirely off what he earned as a stand-up. That lifestyle was affordable off of what he made from people *paying* to hear him tell jokes. Once you know that, no wasted promise or unfairly marginalized work in the history of American pop culture is a mystery. America is a country that will pay Leno.

he's pretty funny but his tonight show tenure was okay at best

His face reflects light well. NBC figured out that this would save them about $300 in lighting over the course of his career compared to Letterman so it was an easy choice.

big fat suckable dick

I'm not the biggest Leno fan, but he had a ton of charisma and personality at the time. Jay was literally the perfect light night guest before Tom Hanks came around, and he had killed it several times filling in for Carson before they gave him the reigns. What a waste of quads.

mfw
why do you say "before Tom Hanks came around" is there a turning point in Leno's career around then?

Reminder Johnny wanted Letterman to have his show but the execs chose Leno instead because they're assholes and supposedly Carson had a long feud with them in the 80s

>ton of charisma

Hi Jay

I understand what he was givin' chin enemas down at the local hospital....

hes incredibly clean. like those quads.

dave was dirty with sexual harrassment in the workplace, illegitimate kids, and a gambling addiction.

&it sure as fuck wasnt gun b arsino son.

To be fair, Carson was a mean son-of-a-bitch, as has gradually been acknowledged, and finally having the opportunity to get rid of the prick's influence, it's understandable that they took it.

>dave was dirty with sexual harrassment in the workplace, illegitimate kids, and a gambling addiction.

Had any of that already happened?

i dunno but i bet its the same guys that thought conan was ready for the big time who then proceeded to reconstruct his show from like 1995.

Letterman's gambling addiction has been on and off for decades
Open secret and all that

What the majority of people want from a late night host is that they are warm and non threatening. This is why Jimmy Fallon is still around. While Letterman's shtick was a bit edgier, it rubs the older people the wrong way, and they're the biggest audience for late night.

He was pretty funny during the early-mid 90's but then jaywalking became really popular and so he put little effort into the show. The writers strike force him to write his own jokes and that actually resulted in his best work in years.

Fuck off

I never really liked Leno, but he's a thousand times better than the brainwashing liberal garbage that is late night TV now

Craig was the best. He got out of the game just in time

Well at least hes better than that ginger faggot Conan

>he's a thousand times better than the brainwashing liberal garbage that is late night TV now

Real talk.

I didn't know NBC execs posted on Sup Forums

Leno was a prick too. All of them were.

You have to a be a mean prick to rise to the top like that. It's a doggy dog world.

I don't know much about Leno's standup after he got the Tonight Show, but many comedians will tell you that early on he was a very highly regarded stand-up.

Fuck Team Coco. Jay was a cool guy who never wanted to leave his late night show in the first place. NBC forced him out to make way for Team Coco. Coco failed hard because Team Coco hipsters didn't tune in. Jay was offered the job he never wanted to stop doing in the first place. Coco refused to go back to following Jay's show because he has a chip on his shoulder, and Jay is the bad guy?

Fuck that, Fuck Jimmy Kimmel, and FUCK HOWARD STERN!
Jay may not have always been funny, but he was a nice guy.

I agree. I was just watching a lot of his Jay Leno's Garage vids on YouTube and he was annoying as fuck. Had no idea what he was talking about when it came to celebrities and culture, he wasn't remotely funny, and random no-name car builders were more likable than he was. Joe Rogan and his mechanic were way more entertaining and funny in the episode they were featured in.

It pissed me off seeing his multi-million dollar garage and being reminded that he "earned" all that by being an unfunny borderline retard.

None of the information in this thread is correct

Go to bed Jay.

>nice guy
he literally didn't give a shit about anyone who ever came on his show. he's admitted this plenty of times.

>No charisma, no personability, shit monologues.
That's what the audience that show is directed at wanted. No drama, no controversy, just nice plain old Jay, every night. Letterman was the edgy one the kids stayed up for - your mom and dad liked Jay.

Lets be honest - he has working steam engines, because he has some talented mechanics on a payroll.

The money he lived off was not stand up comic money. Most of the money was corporate gigs. Our company hired him for an event, and he wasn't cheap. I think it was 25K, and that was over a decade ago. He did very little work outside of corporate gigs, after he started doing the Tonight Show.

I liked him more than Letterman.

Anyone remember Arsinio Hall? We need a black talk show host like that again. Fuck these shits like Trevor Noah. Who's idea was it to have somebody from South Africa, which is a total shithole: talk shit about America?

The guy was using writers rather than his own material. The reality of the matter is that job is brutal. Every single one of them look tired as fuck in spite of having all the makeup specialists and every medical option available in the world.

Letterman was so based; I miss that grumpy old man

youtube.com/watch?v=EXeVMi-wMeE

He was telling OJ jokes till the very end. Lewinsky jokes too. Dude was a hack.

Current late night makes Leno look like some sort of genius

Trevor Noah was a literally who until he was announced to be the Daily Show head, and even that decision got confused looks from SJW's. The fuck was Comedy Central thinking? They had a ratings powerhouse and then they shit the bed in one fell swoop.

I started watching letterman from day one. I used have bad insomnia in high school, and I'd watch the show that was on before him, Tomorrow with Tom Snyder (who had incredibly good live music, like the Ramones, The Cars, a whole bunch of bands). The early days Letterman was incredible - he'd have pee wee on and just let him go for an hour. He was a lot more relaxed and funny then. I watched him religiously until he moved to the new slot on CBS, and it just wasn't the same.

Wahh, late night comedians have been making fun of politicians since the dawn up man but now that I'm a faggot bootlicker I want them to stop! Call the police!

Fuck off to Sup Forums, faggot.

Mob connections.

Honestly this. He even talked about doing stand up for some mob don once that was such an unhinged psycho he would make Tony Soprano seem reasonable.

Except Colbert for instance, genuinely has an agenda that he pushes.

Remember when the vault 7 papers were leaked by wikileaks and suddenly the public found that the CIA could spy on them through Smart TV's and the like?

No need to worry! Who does Colbert have on his show the following week to calm the nation? None other than former director of the CIA and NSA, Michael Hayden! I sure know he has our best interests at heart.

Stop being so naive.

This. I was between gigs for 18 months back then, and watched every episode I could. my friends and I would be at the bar, jump into someone's car, get to someone's apartment, and watch Letterman.

Brother Theodore "David- when she came to me, and I assure you, she came to me- I BIT HER EAR OFF!"

If comedians making fun of the president bothers you so much, don't elect fat retarded clown next time.

This is the same country that elected Trump (and the only country that would ever do that)

Still better than Letterman

...

He's better than anything on right now, also how did he not have any charisma?

Oh, you're trolling. Ebin my dude xD

This.

Holy shit, where were they thinking with the successors? Jimmy Fallon? Go fuck yourself.

I want top-tier stand-up comedians to be late night hosts. The problem is, the best ones are too smart to take the job.

Better than Conan and Colbert by over 6 million miles.

Oh, you're triggered by the mildest criticism.

*what

>trolling
Name a president more deserving of ridicule?

youtube.com/watch?v=uaH-Cb70SEw

The faggot is literally a clown.

But we didn't elect Hillary.

Maybe you should've.

Because he showed the fuck up.

Eighty percent of success is showing up.

There's a lesson in observing Leno age compared to Letterman and Howard Stern. It's weird but with the latter, they've curdled into these PC New Yorkers, full of themselves. Letterman is hanging with Alex Soros, he's like an old bitter Colbert. I hated Leno, hated his neocon bullshit during Bush, but I've watched 100+ of his Garage videos, and you gleam how his mind works. That's who he always was, he didn't need network spotlight. Letterman did.

Would have been comfy to see Leno in the Trump years, though. He represented an America that was a big couch, now it's some postmodern sofa with two hipster fags making out as mom approvingly watches. Wish I had 250 muscle cars to see the sunset in. His Pat Morita buddy cop movie is a must watch, so stupid.

Trump and Hillary work for the same people and are related to one another. We were fucked either way.

I grew up watching this regularly for around the first ~10-14 years of my life. I don't quite remember when I finally stopped watching. I enjoyed the monologues and the little whatevers that came after, like Headlines, or showing off 99c toys, and so on. I thought it was creative and amusing.

One such toy was a thing to put on the top of a Christmas tree but in stead of a star, it was a little paper cutout of Whitney Houston's face with a small table platform thing where she could 'snort' 'crack' (white confetti-ish material) like it was a snow effect. Then again that was a less-censored time of society. Also, of course, these are opinions made when I was very young.

Where did I mention Trump in my earlier post? I assumed you were trolling because of how unintelligent your post was.

Makes me sad to know you're serious.

At least with Hillary you wouldn't have alt-right pussies whining about mean comedians telling jokes.

Sup Forums is full of deranged pseudointellectual liberals that call anyone that disagrees with them Sup Forums and Trump supporters

>Americans are so fat they liken their entire country to a big couch

Sad!

Colbert tell mean joke about daddy make me so mad. Fuck the first amendment and shit.

Liberals whine all the time so it doesn't matter to me either way.

>Jay doesn't care about the filthy rich celebs who use his show to plug their new projects

Rich celebs like Tom Cruise and Angelina Jolie only go on Jays show because they've done a new film, and the Studio forces them to whore themselves by hopping around from late night show to light night show to plug the film. They don't go on Jays show because they actually give a shit about Jay Sooooo Why should Jay give a shit about them again ?

Jays a professional, and he has always been a class act.
>image very related.

See I don't even support Trump but this guy is clearly butthurt lol

That's what I hear but that's not what I see. Show me a thread on Sup Forums where liberals are whining about comedians telling jokes. I see conservative whining every goddamn day.

i like jay

>a former CIA director on a late night talk show

Johnny Carson would be pissed. He always wanted to show his guests a good time. You're not Larry King you fucking cunt.

>imitate typical trump supporter
>"clearly butthurt"
See, this guy gets it. Every knows Trumpkins are low test betas.

Liberals whine about conservatives all the time just not about jokes. I can go to any liberal newspaper and point out liberal asshurt, I can show pictures of liberals fucking crying when Trump won the election. The fact is although I hate both sides, liberals definitely whine more.

Cry more fag

Yet they're not coming to Sup Forums and shitting on every single thread with offtopic bullshit, are they? Makes you think.

You ok?

They used to make fun of all sides, now they're not even making fun of anyone. They're literally pushing an agenda now, you dumbass member of the ostrich brigade.

Hello underage.

It's your bedtime, but enjoy those Fallon clips with your tofu lunch manana, Max Landisberg.

Sup Forums is majority right wing. Go to YouTube and you'll see plenty of off topic posts about Trump on almost every video. Really activates the almonds

Your mom is ok

I'm 31
I'm sure you're 18.

Childhood is being a liberal
Adulthood is growing out of that, you fucking ostrich

Leno's soft right politics and corporate lap dog personality were very attractive to the right wing drift the Military Industrial defense contractor General Electric (GE) wanted to see reflected in its new branch, NBC.

And it wanted its flagship show to more reflect the personal and political interests of CEO Jack Welch and the owner/investors in general, which was newly enabled by a Georgia Republican Federal Judge ruling the Fairness Doctrine as illegal, destroying the basis to control and regulate the content, use or ownership of the Public Airwaves.

I still remember the mid 1980s when NBC would actually have reports on the state of Poverty in America, and the night Tom Brokaw explained that unregulated medicine in the USA resulted in people being charged hundreds of dollars for a medicine, when the SAME medicine with a different name was marketed to VETERINARIANS for $3.00 a dose.
in b4 /pol

Complain about them there then. The alt right cucks are the ones causing problems here.

>assuming I'm a liberal
You're exposing yourself again underage.

Tfw you'll never rent this then return it without rewinding cuz it was just as bad as Dad warned

You're not going to win an argument with somebody who's thrown down the gauntlet by psychologically projecting. I don't disagree with you in the least but you're not getting anywhere with somebody who makes juvenile accusations rather than attempting to oppose what you've said.

You've only been allowed to post on this site for half a year. I said 31, not 13

He was legitimately funny in the '80s.

Fuck it - he's still funny. It's just that the format of his show became stale after many years.

Also, he had a RUTHLESS agent. Watch or read The Late Shift some time:

youtube.com/watch?v=nYZ3BDrdLtE

> Sup Forums is majority right wing.
HAHAHA why do you think we have a containment board for your kind. So we can delete all your shitty, whiny "wahhh colbert" and "wahhh CNN" posts and get on with the kind of rational discussion that only left wingers are capable of.

especially Letterman having illegitimate kids

I literally called them out here too you mong . You just couldn't handle anyone calling Hillary as bad as Trump

>b-but if Hillary won things would be different
