A couple of days ago there was a horror thread. The regulars here at Sup Forums surly must have at least noticed it. Anyway since then I had this question.

Why do horror movies (90% of the ones I saw) have nudity in them? For example my first horror movie was with my grandpa. We were watching Ghost ship? I forgot the name of the movie. In it all the people die and turn into ghosts. Then some people come a few years later and ofc start dying. There is this scene where the singer on this ship seduces a guy. She strips off her clothes and then I think she pushes him over.

Also what are some other horror movie tropes that you see in every single horror movie?
Are Japanese horror movies better than western ones?

R

>ghost ship
Is that the one with QT Emily browning?

So just because they have the R rating they force nudity in?

Horror movies are traditionally the staple of the American date night.

>Why do horror movies (90% of the ones I saw) have nudity in them?
Because regardless of what some PC people like to believe, people like seeing other people naked. That's one of the reasons Game of Thrones was popular.

but nudity adds nothing to the horror genre. It's pointless

Just finished watching The void literally minutes ago. It wasn't extraordinary but I still liked it a lot. You could tell the people involved really had their hearts in it.

I think that depends on the context of your horror movie, because there most definitely can be a point to nudity in a film.

Usually it helps highlight the degenerate about to be killed or insert a moment of vulnerability to some innocent.

Sex = Sin = Death
Titillation/Condemnation
Assault the senses

Because it's a staple of the American date night, it helps to have some kind of aphrodisiac to help get the fucking on. Like nudity.

Helps to reinforce how the character is helpless and exposed

Horror movies tend to star teens, who everyone likes to see naked, also back in the day they tended to be rated R, so why not throw in some tits for good measure. It's part of the formula, the jock, the joker, the virgin, the whore, etc.

Omg. Nudity is not why GoT is popular. No one who is going to watch something for some tits is going to sit through all that just for tits. HBO has plenty of late nightshirt full of tits that will never be a tenth as popular as GoT

to pull in the crowds, especially in the 70s and 80s when you couldn't just see tits whenever you wanted

>No one who is going to watch something for some tits

50% of anons here watched Glow because they wanted to see Bries tits

No one cared back then. We're far more puritanical now. National Lampoons European Vacation was rated PG and it showed tits, dude.

Are you comparing to a show about women's wrestling to GoT?
If you're just looking for t&a the first season of GoT is going to be boring as shit for you.

you said that nobody watches a show just for tits. And I told you that they do.

You ask that question like nudity isn't an enjoyable thing. Or that movies shouldn't consist of entirly enjoyable things.

name 3 movies where nudity was enjoyable

1. True Lies
2. True Lies
3. True Lies

IMAGINE
>not Poison Ivy

Except for those parts where it shows a fat naked man with a hairy ass all forms of nudity in movies are enjoyable.

I like seeing young boys with beautiful bodies or sexy women. Sometimes I will actually look for pictures of them and just stare at them for about 10-20 minutes enjoying it.

...

Who is the one in the hat next to GhostFace?

The Creeper from Jeepers Creepers.

Birds didn't have tits

...

what's with all the prude posting lately? why wouldn't a movie have titties and bush?

It's true

because that's called porn or late night euro tv

Because if you're gonna get an adult rating, might as well go all-out and give the fans some sex as well as violence.

Nowadays its dialing back the fan service tits, but there'll always be a titz'n'gore vein running through horror.

It's titilation. Bit of the forbidden fruit to go with the crazy comic violence.

Horror fans back then were hedonistic thrill seekers, there was no internet and porn was incredibly expensive with a big social stigma, so they turned to the movies for their fix of scandalous entertainment.

Back then horror was entirely aimed at horny teenage boys, it never pretended to be art with a message. It was blood and tits.

MK 9 originally began life as a 'horror fighter', but the licensing was so chaotic and expensive that they ended up just making an MK game.

>there was no internet and porn was incredibly expensive with a big social stigma

Why is this so hard for people under 25 to grasp? 80s slasher movies acted as morality plays killing off things "modern" society looked at as decadent or sinful. I.e. sex, drugs, homosexual lust, violence, and minorities.

The fucking 90s got so meta and up its own ass that horror took year to recover here in america. That is why there was that jap horror phase, horror always rotates countries when one gets too stagnate, 70s Italian horror is great, 80s not so much.

This. There's a reason why the pure/morally upright character is usually the one who survives the ordeal in horror movies.

Cumslut, Chad, and The Prankster always die. Maybe don't think too much about what this implies for Black Guy

Don't Breathe didn't have nudity. And it was a good horror movie too. The only dip in quality was when the dog traps the girl in the car, but I still appreciate it for being an homage to Cujo and part of her whole character arc bullshit. Good movie. I'd give it a 10/10 would watch again till the end with a friend.

How autistic are you to be this detached from culture?

>Maybe don't think too much about what this implies for Black Guy

It was an odd time for every one, truth is we hated what didn't look like us. There is a reason stuff like kung fu movies and anime struck a cord in inner cities like Chicago, New York, and Detroit. Up till at least the mid 90s you could easily find a grind house theater to watch stuff like Enter the Dragon or 36 chambers of the Shaolin in Chicago, can't say about the other places. I liked the grind house resurgence a few years back, but there was no reason for most the people who got nostalgic to even know what a grind house theater.

Now most the places still standing are art house shit.

>Are Japanese horror movies better than western ones?
No, but horror isn't something you can just say a country does it better or worst, because by the time we got jap horror, the japs were getting sick of it, Italian horro from the 70s was great, British body horror is great, but to ask if one country does it better is asinine. Also Jap horro is just pissed off women or stupid ghost kids.

They're made for assholes.

actually he said that nobody that watches a show just for tits is going to then go and watch GOT just for the tits in its show.

Sex sells. Horror is trash, mostly, that gets you by doing cheap things to scare you.
Also, nudity in horror calms down and is a very cheap way to do so. Meaning, your hormones and emotions have changed or anticipate something else which makes it easier to scare you. Anything else would mean effort.
