Isn't it impossible unless the Constitution is changed?

How long would it take for it to be modified to allow it?

The emperor seems like a cool guy.

Why do they have an emperor when they don't have an empire, isn't he really just a king?

Same reason you still have a queen.

Commit sudoku desu senpai

Didn't we already kill him in WW2?

Yeah. No laws for it yet. Last abdication was 200 years ago.

He's pretty well-liked. Most Japanese want him to step down and chill.

Essentially.

>be old man
>retire from ceremonial role as Emperor
>pass title on to son so he can go and do the duties instead
>relax and watch chinese cartoons all day

Nothing wrong with that. The Emperor of Nippon has been an irrelevant piece of ornamental decoration ever since the era the Shogunates became established, after all, and that didn't change in a post-WW2 society.

Everything is lining up now.

MacArthur didn't kill any Emperors, no. Hirohito (The WW2 wartime Emperor) died in 1989 IIRC.

>impossible

What's stopping him from simply saying "fuck that" and refusing to perform the few duties he has? Sure, there won't be a legal basis, but laws are literally social constructs anyway.

Do the Japanese still believe the emperor is a descendant of Amaterasu?

I think he is a great guy and he deserves to relax for the last years of his life.

Tenno Heika Banzai.

Almost nobody believes that.

If he were a real man he'd end the entire idea of the Imperial Family so Japan can finally join the rest of the world.

t. commie

There is literally nothing wrong with holding onto your history.

A lot of Japanese are functionally sometimes-superstitious atheists/agnostics. They see their religion as a tradition, rather than a belief system. It's very different from how religion works for devout Christians and Muslims.

Will his son take his place when he steps down?

Emperor can't commit sudoku

Theoretically, yeah. The problem is that if his son dies/abdicates, there won't be a successor unless they change even more laws and allow a woman to succeed the throne as an empress.

>2016
>monarchy

That's big talk coming from a Cucktry that still has that old hag on their coins.

That's not big talk, it's normal human bean talk. Or is holding a discussion without deflecting to shill ad hominems not possible for you?

Why no offspring? Is he infertile, or is a herbivore man?

Akihito's first son has only a daughter.

>Empress

Could be cute.

Im not sure about the laws, but im sure McArthur neutered the position quite a bit. There would be nothing wrong with it in a more cultural and historical sense, on par with Englands queen.

OK, you want shitskins?

No, it's just that the Crown Prince Naruhito only has a daughter and no sons.

...

Meh.

> What's stopping him from simply saying "fuck that"
They are not the single dynasty to rule anything from it`s beginning and the most ancient dynasty in the world because they are saying "fuck that".

Shamefur dispray.

...

Low energy.

How does that even work? I know he's been wanting to retire for a while now, but what does his job entail that's too strenuous for him to do anymore?

Japanese emperor are emperor not because Japan is an empire. Title of king in East Asia referred to hassle state of China. Japan didn't want to be a hassle to China, so they change the title of their leader to emperor.

Korea is still mad that Japan wasn't a hassle and they were, so their press use the title of king when referring to the Japanese emperor.

Fucking autocorrect

*Vassal

> Japanese emperor are emperor not because Japan is an empire.
Yes, it is. You occupy Ainu territory and barakumins are basically Ainu. Indigenous Ainu where white BTW.

That is not the reason why the Japanese sovereign's title is emperor. The reason is to show defiance to China. Later on Japan did become an empire briefly.

look at his neck, this man is standing on a stick and you ask me what is strenuous about his job?

even breathing probably sends him into severe convulsions at times

I see - thanks Nihon

This can only be bad.

Ur a hassle, lmao.

How come? I'm interested.

Ah ok, that clears things up
I don't know a lot about the history of that part of the world

How, your king abdicated a few years ago (as did our queen) and nothing of consequence changed

This, even though its a caliphate until brexit fully occurs

Because he respects the laws, customs and traditions of the nation and people of which he is the monarch.

I understand this may not be something that millennials can grasp

The majority of japan would follow suit if he did that.

No we're fucking nice guys. Any other nation in our position would have raped their women as a matter of state policy.

>butthurt roach who cannot migrate to the waifu land

how influential is him on japanese politics?

MacArthur should have made himself the fucking emperor.

Some shit about the difference between 天皇 and 国王. The term mikado (帝) used to be used once upon a time and that's the moonrune chinamen used to use to refer to their emperor.

Fuck gookspeak.

He would have lead them to commie killing glory.

Two schools of thought

1) Abdication is cool if you have a suitable heir (he does.)

This also allows his heir to be a somewhat more youthful emperor, which can keep the throne from resembling something closer to the papacy.

2)Abdication is an abandonment of tradition and is seen as a person shirking their responsibilities. A person with a paranoid mindset could go so far as to wonder whether or not there has been international pressure to remove living, nationalist icons quietly from the world stage.
