To be honest I'm not that surprised. I mean, I sort of expected him to die of a heart attack and I at least expected him to make it to 40 but his poor hygiene, poor diet, and no exercise all but guaranteed he was going to die young.

He was originally a male pikachu but he was imprinted with Sonic's super fast dna when Super Sonic's chaos energy went a bit out of control during a battle. The pikachu, irradiated by fast and chaos energy mutated into Sonichu, a separate entity from Sonic the Hedgehog.
