He'd been dreaming of it since, hell, probably since he was a little boy, or at least since his H.W. won.
This was his time. He knew that this was the perfect chance for him to achieve his dream. Right after a 2-term Democrat got out of office, and when he was at about the right age to do it. He set to work in I'd guess 2012, quietly gathering all the right donors, preparing all the right policy positions, thinking up all the right strategies, hiring all the right consultants. He raised a biblical amount of money, using Citizens United to help. He led some of the very early polls.
Then He came. Some billionaire playboy from NYC who explicitly said he would probably never run for president. I bet when Trump came down the escalator Jeb laughed to himself. "He doesn't have the right donors. He doesn't have the right policies. He doesn't have the right strategies. He doesn't have the right consultants. He doesn't have a well-oiled super PAC. How can this oaf think he has a chance against me?"
