I think they're best suited to TV. Kind of like X-Men in that the most popular runs and arcs are more slow burn stuff, doesn't quite work if you try to do it only in 3 hours. Even that Johns Action arc feels kind of like a pilot rather than a true movie on itself (though it might make a good DTV).
