Unpopular Opinions

The Golden and Silver Age comics have aged to the point where they cannot be enjoyed by new readers and serve no other purpose than beingg a relic of the past, like the Musket or instant cameras.

live-action shit should be on Sup Forums.

Marvel and DC offer nothing good in ways of story and characters. It's just watered down garbage for the easy consumption by various Facebook groups that give them money for Bat-shirts and Avengers mugs.

This

While I do agree that it is Sup Forums related, no one talks about Sup Forums related things. Its all bitching about actors and directing, which is Sup Forums.

Mike Mignola is an uncreative mediocrity at best who can only bastardize folklore since his own characters and stories are all terrible.
I'm sure that people who perpetuate the "Hellboy/BRPD is good" bullshit are distracted by pretty art to notice how vapid Mignola's stories are.
The only good parts of Mignolaverse were written by John Arcudi whose writing is good enough to salvage Mignola's trash, but no one ever gives him any credit.

It amuses me to no end how they made Gwen look in the Ben 10 reboot.

Lets see those sick pedos fap to her now.

>thinking pedos have taste
>while also being a tripfag

Shut the fuck up, Boco.

No. No, not this time.

I hated that mean little bitch. Making her ugly now is just icing on the cake.

>told to shut up
>decides not to

What the fuck has Sup Forums become?

You're overplaying this, user.

I agree that a lot of older comics have become hard to read, but not all of them. There are still a lot of Golden and Silver Age comics you can enjoy today.

Using the word "contrarian" needs to be a bannable offense.
>HURR HOW DARE YOU DISAGREE WITH THE MAJORITY CONTRARIAN CONTRARIAN
It's obnoxious as hell.

No comment on Mignola's writing but I like his art. It's interesting and unique.

Cleveland show was comfy and the side characters were interesting.

Just once I'd like to see an actual, sincerely-held unpopular opinion in one of these threads.

What about ?

Where does Sup Forums generally stand on Mignola? I honestly don't know. I've seen storytimes but I don't know if he's generally respected here or not.

From what I've seen he's usually respected.

I may be harsh, but I'm just very annoyed at this point. John Arcudi is a much stronger writer, but to everyone it's always Mignola who's a genius behind everything and no one other than him ever gets any respect.

Because, frankly, they're not as good.

I'm okay with "I've Got Batman in My Basement".

JRJR is the GOAT comic book artist

I don't think that anything getting hate-based Daily Dose threads actually deserves the hate, let alone the time and energy spent on the threads.

I would barely remember that Willis and Jacques exist if Sup Forums didn't make daily threads dedicated to them.

I don't mind the art in Squirrel Girl. I've enjoyed comics before whose art was more off-putting than that. I just don't read it because I have no interest in the writing.

I don't care that Mark Millar is devoting himself to movie adaptations. He's still helping his co-creators reach new levels of exposure and make enough money to keep comics as a full-time career, and he's treating them fairly every step of the way. Also his edgy phase is over, but people here act like his edginess is all-pervasive and eternal.

I think Alan Moore comes off as friendly and affable in person and on camera, so folks should get a clue instead of only reading his textual interviews and insisting that he's perpetually bitter and grouchy.

I like Ales Kot. I don't mind that he's pretentious, and I applaud him for being ambitious. Even when he tries to make a masterpiece but fails and makes a piece of crap, I find his failure endearing, like the down-on-his-luck underdog in a movie who can't catch a break.

I'm fine with Kate Leth. I don't read anything she does, but she never offended me either. It's astonishing, the amount of hate I see heaped on her for, say, trying and dropping Batman. At least she tried.

I think that Bendisspeak hasn't been funny in years. Additionally, many of you would be surprised how easy it is to simply drop his comics instead of obsessing over how he's RUINED EVERYTHING FOREVER this week.

Here on Sup Forums, the right is worse than the left. I might feel differently if I was on some other website, but I'm here, and that's how it is. The radical right already won here, it's the supermajority, and it's just petty to see daily threads attacking the left as if "SJW" "invasions" even stood a chance.

VoilĂ

>cannot be enjoyed by new readers
As a new reader who read that stuff I say you're full of shit.

The only golden and silver age stuff I really like are jack coles stuff, siegel/swan silver age stories with superman and most of the stuff from EC

A Bug's Life is the only Lasseter-directed Pixar movie I enjoy.

This. If anyting it's the newer comics that are hard tp read for newbies. Self contained stories don't exsit anymore. I just picked up the "rebooted" Amazing Spider Man comics after having not read any of the Superior SM stuff and by the 5th issue, I have to say I'm not feeling it. Who the fuck is Prowler? What happened to the F4? Where is MJ? Where is Gwen? Why is Peter suddenly Tony Stark? Why is Doc Ock a British robot?
Why the fuck did they call it "#1" if I have to look up everything on google if I want to have the slighest idea of what is happening

Same for DC's "Rebirth" shit

DC is better than Marvel by only just a hair.

The only reason they don't change Superman's race or gender is because the trinity and many of the leaguers have become something other than characters. They're untouchable and that legitimately makes them boring to everyone other than long time DC fans. You can see that they wanted to do what Marvel does, but they only introduced a tiny bit. They straight up made Wally black in Nu52, it wasn't even like a Miles Morales/Legacy thing. They're still trying to push out another Black bat-family character, they hooked up Babs and Luke, they're pushing out a Chinese Superman. All of these would be replacements, not because they 'respect' the original characters because they literally cant touch the original characters.

When was the last time Superman, Batman, or Wonder Woman had an arc that actually changed the character in any lasting way? Superman lost his fucking powers and now hes just back to normal. Batman became a god and now hes back to normal.

Doing it right now tbqh senpai.

>I think Alan Moore comes off as friendly and affable in person and on camera, so folks should get a clue instead of only reading his textual interviews and insisting that he's perpetually bitter and grouchy.

Actually he's very friendly and upbeat even in print interviews as long as certain well-tread topics aren't brought up.

I don't get the hate for this episode. Yeah it's light and goofy and comedic, but there's nothing wrong with that every once in a while.

The comic book industry is crashing because it's oriented to only three groups: capeshit faggots, casuals and reddit hipsters. There isn't a middle point between silly wacky capeshit and totally serious spooky edgy drama.

Image is just a faux-Vertigo that isn't doing anything worthy of a classic Vertigo book (pushing the boundaries of comic narrative or treating taboo themes). They may be 'progressive' but that doesn't mean nothing when The Sandman was treating harsher themes with less political bias 25 years ago.

>Here on Sup Forums, the right is worse than the left. I might feel differently if I was on some other website, but I'm here, and that's how it is. I really think that Sup Forums does that because of ironic purposes.

I love everything Bendis has done and think he's the best writer of the last 20 years.

You can't say the animation for the Killing Joke is bad while saying the animation of B:TAS is good without being incredibly hypocritical.

Eh, I got The Flash silver age omnibus and enjoyed it.

I feel similarly. My only real problem is that this shouldn't have been the introduction episode to someone from the Rogue's Gallery, let alone someone who already has difficulty being taken seriously.

I didn't have any issues with the animation with the Killing Joke. I figured there would be things people would take issue with; I didn't think the animation would be one of them.

The Comics Code fucked up the industry so badly that even now it is still suffering from the after effects, and the industry will probably never fully recover.

A lot of comic books border on fan fiction quality.

Mask of the Phantasm has way better animation though and you can't exactly compare a movie to an animated series

The Flash Rebirth was good in spite of it's retcons.

...

Of course you can. The animation in B:TAS is different from the shit in TKJ.

This is the majority opinion, not the unpopular one.

The unpopular one would be "the Comics Code was necessary and improved American comics as a whole", but nobody under 70 actually believes that.

>unpopular

It's popular to say that, but when you start pointing out the specific comics it becomes controversial.

CCA wasn't that big of a deal.

I think they're actually jerking off to her even more.

Sup Forums is the most wretched hive of scum and villainy ever, so don't be surprised.

So point them out.

Thats true.

youtube.com/watch?v=JaPf-MRKITg

I strongly disagree. Private prisons are a serious and growing problem, and inserting the profit motive into the justice system only perverts the very processes meant to safeguard our rights.

It's impossible by the nature of the board, Sup Forums is pretty populous, and despite being full of people who honestly belong in tumblr (and a bunch of them in Sup Forums), it's stil contrarian enough that most given opinions on any subject will be well represented, even if it's just for trolling.

I am just going to say it implies that I think at least half of DC Rebirth is crappy fan fiction... and I am sure that is unpopular at this point.

kek

It's easy: anything plebs like you enjoy is fan fiction, anything sophisticates like myself enjoy is literature.

I got choice words for you: Shut the Fuck up Boco. And go back to that corner you shit in!

For most heroes it's not wanting to be branded a vigilante. You engage in vigilantism, the government starts coming after you, and most supers aren't powerful enough to tell the government to fuck off.

The Killing Joke was a bad comic and it made a bad animation. I'm tired of all the rape and death in cape comics. It's too fucking grim for me.

/aco/ is the greatest thing to ever spawn from Sup Forums

Here's an unpopular opinion: the Internet is full of limitless porn of endless variety. If I want to jerk off I can go find that.

I don't need comics sexed up to enjoy them, and I feel like I'm the only person on Sup Forums who can read a story without wanting to jack it to every female character.

That you, Morriganal?

Yeah, some of that stuff is still really good. I mean, there are bad issues and bad comics too, but are we really gonna say that's not a problem now?

Well now it's become some sort of moronic political movement where if you don't think every women should be drawn in sexy poses in every panel you're some sort of sex-hating cuckold.

Apparently context is irrelevant at this point.

meh, extremes exist on both sides.

I mean on Sup Forums specifically.

oh, sure then.

And then what? It's bad enough when they come here.

At least people talk about the comics instead of screaming "KEK" or "BLACKED" every five seconds.

But it didn't - it spawned from /d/.

Both Jason Todd and Stephanie Brown have tons of potencial untouched and should not be considered bad characters.

Bad writers make characters look bad.

People who read comics are generally in 1 of 3 categories:
>The obsessive nerd who will read anything with their favorite character in it.
>The pretentious 2cool4u tool
>The guy who reads to get a better understanding/influence for art and story

AT is a boring mess that got by because it was the first decent thing CN had aired since 2006. It was meh at first, now, as another user once put it, it's "Why are you even trying?" garbage

Home Movies is fucking awful and you know it. Even if you're stoned off your ass, it still manages to piss you off at how bad it is

South Park lost its charm after Imagination Land. Even the most recent season was boring as Hell and only really got by because they went after "duh Ess Jay Dubyas"

ATLA was ok. Even as a kid I didn't care enough to watch the first season. Maybe the first few episodes and the series finale. Didn't feel like I had missed out on not watching anything and had no desire to understand why certain things happened. God tier waifus though

Family Guy was at its peak from its return to about 2009. Pre-cancellation was terrible minus a few episodes

I just read for amusement
I only read fun books

I find the legend of Korra better than Avatar the last air bender

I'm glad the right won.

>bad writers make characters looks bad

for every character someone happens to hate for an arbitrary reason

Marvel is actually a well run and thoughtfully managed company that produces well structured, long-planned, and purposeful storylines that always stay true to the canon of their narrative's past.

How about Iron Man changing into a black woman?
Diversity quotas are fine when they ACTUALLY create new characters, but writing off originals is errorneously dumb as fuck.

>Turning Stark who fucks everything up and kinda sucks as a character into a brown teenage girl
why not?

I felt that decision was completely sudden and out of place. Now, Captain America's sendoff was rightful, as Rogers was getting old. But I never heard of a backstory where a literally who was inspired enough to fit into a Iron Man suit. Differences aside, she looks cute, too.

>instant cameras
Ah yes, the device which became outmoded during your very lifetime. Truly an anachronism in this modern, civilized era.

Bendis isn't that bad

besides being absolutely retarded I like how he tells stories
Uncanny X-Men wasn't the worst thing in the world even though it kinda was

I actually like his work a lot, I honestly can't see what all the online bitching is about.
Most of the complaints could apply to any comics writer.

I liked the New 52 Suicide Squad.

>he thinks the state cares about justice

>Everything must be rebooted from the scratch every time goes I want to read

It's mediocre at best

This. Even though Sup Forums doesn't like the shit they publish, it can't be denied that Marvel respects their history more than DC who can't stop rebooting shit and then admitting they fucked up. Besides, they plan in the long term.

Part 1 of 3

Most Muslims are not as cute and quirky as Kamala. In fact Kamala is more of the "token white Muslim" partially because of her writer G. Willow Wilson more than a Pakistani Muslim and the fear of creating an unsafe character. They are Muslim in title only, not observant/secular. Because of this it is highly unlikely or impossible for her to come to terms with the positives or negatives of being a muslim in society, both her own and the outside world.

The only Pakistani muslim that could sell right now is Malala Yousafzai but most muslims see her as "problematic" especially Wilson and by extension Anat even though she is Pakistani but no longer an observant muslim because her existence and struggles can paint Islam in a negative light.

Part 2 of 3

To actually be a observant Muslim (as secular as one can be) but also a person who works for the same ideals of traditional heroism/human decency, especially someone that would renounce the destructive ideologues of Islam is too much of a trial even in real life. Kamala does not have that character to face that hardship, in fact when they tried to have Kamala have a Malala moment when confronting her local imam about actual misogynistic teachings and actions that were going on in her local area, she just cried in a corner and left without sticking up for her ideals.

To actually show that Islam has problems especially with women goes against the "progressive" ideology that has taken over Marvel. That is why for as much as she was originally lorded as a "Muslim superhero", she really hasn't been shown being that. At best she's a dime a dozen tumblr fangirl trope but with a Pakistani Brown finish versus the neon rainbow we expect from tumblr.

Part 3 of 3

By doing so Marvel/Wilson hope to project the idea that most muslims are the "wacky paki" variety like Kamala who at most appearances act more like the stereotypical maniac pixie dream girl seen in Caucasian teenagers (at least through the eyes of Tumblr/Deviantart/LiveJournal stereotypes).

To subvert this they do have Kamala's family show some issues with Islam. Aamir being hypocritical liar and manipulator that uses Islam as an excuse for his horrible behavior and the family being against cultural miscegenation to keep their Islamism non-tainted. The problem isn't that this is shown, in fact it is something that I applaud showing some negatives of Islam versus not showing it at all. The problem is that our main protagonist, Kamala Khan is supposed to be against this type of thinking and knowing full well that this is a problem in her family and her society as a whole does nothing. I'm not saying she has to fix this across the world but when she won't even speak out against negative behavior at home shows that she is a very disingenuous person and the only appeal to her is the cutesy escapism of her book. This is another reason why the book fails even to help "muslims" be seen as positive role-models as well. It shows that all you need is "cutesy quirk" and soapbox sophistry to get by in life.

>Bad writers make characters look bad.
Truer words have never been spoken.

> Instant cameras
> A relic
Fuck you. Instant cameras were a miracle of modern science.

EX: Summary

Kamala for all of her "CUTE!", is everything wrong with creating a hero to appeal to a demographic, especially Muslims. Her actions are counterproductive in teaching anybody to relate to her and/or take her seriously on her values or beliefs.

Kamala's being boils down to this. When it comes time for you to stand up against the problems plaguing your society, just let it happen and never step up to be the change you believe in. It's apathy in the worst form and the only thing that is saving her is that she has not become an apologist for any form of radicalized behavior from Inhumans, Mutants, and/or other Muslims yet. Now if she had some form of internal struggle with this then it could be a poigant piece of her identity but instead she just mopes about it or it is deceptively laughed off but never addressed. It creates a mindset that these ideas are set in stone for herself, her family, and by extension the Muslim community and cannot be changed for better and only worse. I know people would say that this is an struggle of itself but Kamala is propped up to have much more willpower and charisma then the average angst ridden teenager, in and outside the Ms. Marvel identity. It just comes off hollow that we don't get to see the Kamala that is lorded about but a safe but overall pointless facsimile of it.

In the end she is Muslim by name only and by doing so is in fact a token character. This is not to say that her entire character has to revolve around her being Pakistani or Muslim but it seems that when it does come around into that category, the story is toothless and overall trite. When she's doing any arc outside of the above it's just wacky fangirl adventures with little to no plot and angst melodrama. Now I know this is for the teens but do we have to settle for Degrassi style schlock every time we want a "relate-able teen story"?

Mark Millar is a good writer and I find pretty much everything he writes at least enjoyable. I would go as far as saying that he's the most consistent "blockbuster" type writer (Johns, Bendis, etc.). Even more so now that he's going through a lighthearted phase and has largely abandoned his edgy tales.

Continuity is important in superhero comic books because what the characters lived through is what makes them what they are. Without those experiences they're not characters, they're just concepts. And concepts are not what people invest their time for in these characters. In any case, if a writer thinks continuity is an hindrance, they should write their own characters instead. Besides, it's not an hindrance at all, it's just a tool. It's there if you want to use it, but you don't have to be slavish of it. What makes characters like Batman, Superman or Spider-Man stand from the rest is the fact that they're a collaborative effort by hundres of writers through the ages. There's quite nothing like it in fiction.

Accurate. If you're still reading Big 2 after the age of 18, you have a problem.

>Superman lost his fucking powers and now hes just back to normal.

He's not even the same guy anymore. What the fuck are you talking about ? And did you just say Batman is legitimately boring to anyone who isn't a longterm DC fan? That's not an unpopular opinion, that's just wrong on a factual level

To add to what you are saying, I think Miles Morales falls into the same token category to a lesser extent. I dislike how the new characters Marvel pushes for the sake of diversity are written as basically white characters with a coat of ethnicity slapped on. It's controversy for the sake of controversy rather than social progress despite what everyone's individual opinions may be

I just watched most of Young Justice for the first time and I just don't get it
why do people like it? it's not very fun at all

Eddie Brock's Venom is a great character

I'm happy with Cyborg being on the Justice League. He adds a completely new skill set and element to the team. Martian Manhunter is to powerful to be with the league as writers had to nerf him constantly.

I also think that the people who say "Cyborg should stay with the Teen Titans" Represent everything wrong with the comic industry
