Literally the only worthwhile director in the Criterion.

Also, I'm just now finding out he died last February.

Yes! Probably going to get Branded to Kill!

I don't think I have the necessary imagination to even begin to imagine being this pleb.

Can't wait to buy these overpriced films just so I can have le epic minimalism cover on my shelf. Tarkovsky, Kurosawa, the list goes on I'm a true cinephile!

now they're not so overpriced! :D

>le epic minimalism cover

...

>judging by the cover

Less exciting now that Filmstruck has titles w/ bonuses, but still probably gonna cop The New World.

Stalker
Revanche
The Graduate
Branded to Kill (thanks for the reminder, above user)
Moonrise Kingdom
The Third Man (if I can find it, been unsuccessful during the last few sales)

Fuck the memes. The Criterion collection has some great movies. Reddit just likes to talk about them too much.

i love Filmstruck but the streaming still blows. blurays look so much better its like night-and-day

>The Third Man (if I can find it, been unsuccessful during the last few sales)
that's because it's been out-of-print for years. you will only find it on eBay and other resellers at an exorbitant markup

Probably gonna grab the new World Cinema box set. The one with Taipei Story in it

>memes
Look at the average criterion consumer: Your brand is shit for plebs, get better taste in films.

They have the best restorations desu

>Criterion is shit because this random user is a pleb
What?

i couldnt wait for the sale so i copped it on release. the whole set is fucking great (and Inisiang and Limite are such finds, no idea i hadnt heard of them before)

and desu, box sets are the way to go for these 50% sales as most of the single-film editions are ~40% off year-round on Amazon

>I'm gonna condemn a whole company for a couple shit movies
>GET BETTER TASTE IN MOVIES YOU PLEB

i'm on kg and ptp so why the fuck would I buy any of these overpriced dvds

>random user
That's most of their consumer base though, impressionable plebs.

some people like to collect things, other people don't. why is this so hard to grasp?

What are you guys going to be buying? I usually like to just make impulse buys when I go but, I know I will for sure be picking up the War Trilogy upgrade, Stalker, Life of Oharu.

Recommendations? I already have like 70 or so films in the collection currently.

>tfw no Chungking Express criterion release

idiot

Kg is pretty shit for obscure stuff, if you only like mainstream art house (like you) then I guess it's ok.
>recommendations
Getting better taste.

outta print
thank god it's not my favorite of his or i'd be crying too

here's your (you)

>Ikiru
>Brighter Summer Day
>Day for Night
>In the Mood for Love
>Harakiri
>Stalker
>Late Spring
>La Dolce Vita

I've never bought anything before so I just got some of my favorites along with some I haven't seen from directors I like.

>I'm in kg therefore I must be patrician!
Plebs like you killed the private tracker community.

one more (you) then you're on your own
don't spend it all at once silly

Le 9gag army le (you) is currency!
My fellow Kekistani upbote!!!

So you're too stupid to actually judge Criterion as a publisher without reverting to "muh plebs like it"

@84850247
k

now that i have a good paying job, i'm mostly going to upgrading some of my criterion dvds to blurays (yeah yeah, inb4 "de joos got me" or whatever).

upgrading:
>Amarcord
>Rashomon
>Throne of Blood
>Band of Outsiders
>Late Spring
>Rules of the Game

new:
>Straw Dogs
>The New World
>Tati box set
>Cries and Whispers
>High and Low
>Valerie and Her Week of Wonders

plus a few eclipse sets before they stop making them since no one buys them:
>Oshima
>Kinoshita
>Nikkatsu Noir
>Kurahara

Not him but I'll throw a (You) your way too. Enjoy

Even the Blu-ray is out of print? Damn.

:)

I have the Jon Troell and the French Canan one, they're pretty nice.
The consumer base is absolute cancer and home video is generally pretty shit.

>Even the Blu-ray is out of print?
yep

Studio Canal released a Region A blu-ray, iirc with pretty much all the same special features, except for the fact they DNR the fuck out of the transfer and the picture looks like dogshit

recommend me an Kino pls

It's my 2nd favorite from him so it sucks I can't get it unless I want to spend obscene amounts of money on ebay for one movie.

>The consumer base is absolute cancer
>muh plebs
Kill yourself

It's ok user, you'll stop being one some day.
you won't though, faggot

>gook director

holy kek get a look at this pleb who thinks hes a cool kid

probably Dheepan too cuz imma lib cuck

God damn this thread is cancerous. I forgot Sup Forums was too cool for some of the greatest films ever made

Watch more films.

>Teshigahara trilogy is also out of print

Fuck this shit

>Stalker
>Revanche
>Branded to Kill

I wouldn't call those mainstream film picks.

Of course you wouldn't, you lack self awareness, pleb.

nigga i doubt you've seen even an eighth of the criterion collection

You don't know what mainstream means

>still replying to the retard

>hurr durr I know better than hundreds and hundreds of filmmakers, critics, and historians and decades of film analyses and

>replying to rym fags

This kind of person just may be worse than the average capeshit poster

I don't watch flicks. I watch kinos, something the Criterion collection is severely lacking.

hello plebbit

letterboxd.com/jbutts15/list/the-complete-criterion-collection/
I've seen 48% according to this list, but yes, thank god I haven't seen the rest.
>I-I swear I'm patrician
Laughable, watch more films.

Bought Stalker and Kwaidan

holy shit ur right he fell right into your hands with this

That was not me, I don't use Reddit language.

Do not ever quote me again.

this is like saying that the NBA is overrated and that the best players were actually 1940s czech farmers

get back to your containment thread, /lbg/ pseud

The new Stalker remaster is on my list. Cases like this, where a real remaster is needed or better translations are what make the Criterion series worth it for me.

Did I miss the sale? What's going on?

Just get anything on this list that's on the Criterion Collection.

>pseud
I've seen more films than you, criterioncuck, sorry not everyone on Sup Forums is a pleb like you.
No, it's not remotely similar, not like you would understand.

it's through August 7th my man

it's until August 7, you have plenty of time

OP here
wow didn't know Sup Forums got this bad

are you the /lbg/ DW Griffith poster?

kys

>he thinks that this is what minimalism is
Wew

>plus a few eclipse sets before they stop making them since no one buys them

That'll kinda suck. I have a feeling that if Criterion keeps making hard copies of all their blu rays (and I hope they do), it'll be increasingly less obscure titles and nearly all of their more obscure titles will be streaming only.

>Are you my strawman because I don't have arguments?
No.

But I watch both Criterionkino and regular kino already

McCabe and Mrs Miller worth it?

not making an argument, just curious

kys

i hope to god they make em bluray

No you don't, idiot phoneposter.

I would watch it first to see if it's your cup-of-tea. It's beloved by many people and has lovely cinematography, but Altman's use of dialogue and meandering storytelling can be off putting.

AIGHT BOYS

DAYS OF HEAVEN or BADLANDS?

why are you faggots spending money on this when the 4K release is inevitable and will come with a BD copy anyway

nice, check out
kuroneko-ghost story, so cool
black moon-a weird alice wonderland take
beauty and the beast-insanely beautiful
fantastic planet-bizarre animation

Badlands boi.

badlands obviously

I'm posting on desktop, though.

If you like other Altman movies, for sure.
Don't go in really expecting a normal Western though. It's a a Western in the same sort of way something like El Topo or Jarmusch's Dead Man is

rate my poor financial decision

It's in my top 10 of all time
Pure poetry

I've only seen The Long Goodbye and it's one of my favorites

Criterion still has good movie selection but the quality control on their mastering and sourcing is seriously slipping.

>The Long Goodbye
Fantastic movie. It has a sublime blu-ray release by Arrow Video that I'd recommend if you don't already have it. It has the isolated soundtrack as an audio option.

>Paying normal price for dvd's instead of double the price
>"sale"

Isn't it only at Barnes & Nobles?

THERE'S A LOOOONG GOODBYE
AND IT HAPPENS EVERY DAAAAY

because you need 60"+ TV to fully experience 4k HDR and that is awfully close to overkill, and upscaling 1080p is very good already

>kuroneko
>beauty and the best
already seen both of those and loved them, will cop both eventually

p gud

haven't seen Repo Man or most of the Demys yet
