The real reason is that there is better money to be made in low-skill/labor jobs there as oppose to NZ as well as an already large Maori/Kiwi community there.

The low-skill job thing is not so much the case now, but it was 20-30 years ago. Physical jobs still pay better there than over here though. They also get better working conditions there and more holidays as labor unions are far more influence in Australia.

You won't see a large amount of educated/white New Zealanders in the Gold Coast (They generally go Melbourne or Sydney if they do leave here) because the pay and work conditions for educated jobs are more inline between the two countries.

Educated people definitely. Not Maori/Working class. My faculty has posters everywhere advertising work opportunities in the UK. Also if you are Anglo and your grandparents were born in Britain (lets face it - most educated here are) getting residency (and in the long term citizenship) is easy.
