Next level Superman recommendations

People always recommend the absolute classics: All-Star, Kingdom Come, Moore's stories, Birthright Action #775, Red Son, For All Seasons, Secret Identity, etc. But the character has 75 years and I'm sure that's not everything there is to know about him.

Well, how about we go beyond the classics and make some more obscure Superman recommendations? You know, stories you think are underappreciated or just flew under the radar for some reason. They may not be as good as the classics but they can still be worth reading and even show an interesting facet of the character.

Have you read the Johns and Busiek runs? If so backtrack a little to Kelly.

Superman Adventures
DC Comics Presents
Superman #400
Loeb's run(s)
Kelly's run
Superman and Batman - World's Funnest

Superman 149, 156, 164, 166

The image your OP pic is from is a goodie but obscure...y.

Strange Visitor by Joe Keatinge is a story that, I think, should be among the classics. It's thighly packed but it's amazing how much scale and scope the writer can put in 40 pages. A wonderful love letter to the character with a powerful ending. Beautiful, sad and joyful.

Wasn't Kelly's run interrupted by a lot of crossovers at the time?

Golden Age Superman is stellar.

Some standouts from the Silver Age that are must-reads:

>I'm sure that's not everything there is to know about him
How much do you need?

Infinite City is really interesting and unique Superman story, it doesn't have any of his usual villains and gets him wrapped up into a crazy science-fantasy really out there situation that ends up being really really personal for him. The art is amazing and it really is interesting seeing what else can be done with the traditional Superman without alot of the things we have come to expect (Luthor, the Daily Planet, Batman lurking around, etc). It's pretty cool and I would recommend it highly.

I really like Batman/Superman: Kryptonite arc (#44-49)

It's sUpErmAn/bAtmAn nOt bAtmAn/sUpErmAn, yOU twAt

Superman is barely in it, but i really like Action Comic: Black Ring arc where Lex takes over book and basically tours through entirety of DC universe

...

This is a real fun arc, tons of cosmic DC shenanigans and lot's of great characters.

Dominus Effect is spectacular

Nobody seems to talk about Kryptonite Nevermore.

For in continuity Superman read:
Golden age Superman by Schuster and Seigel
Later Otto Binder's Action comics, Superman and Superboy which introduced some of the classic concepts.
Entire 70s and early 80s Superman and Action comics, mostly written by Maggin, Cary Bates, and Pasko.
Then Johns' and Busiek's post one year later run. Robinson had some good parts, but mostly it was forgettable.
Morrison's action comics and Johns' superman in new 52.

One time some user posted about a Golden Age story where Luthor keeps time-jumping into the future, and Superman has to follow him. Eventually they end up in a time where the Earth is long dead. Luthor tries to bum Supes out about the whole thing, but Supes perseveres or something.

Anyone know the issues?

Read Alan Moore's Supreme as well.

Superman and the Legion of Superheroes by Johns

Fuck it, Johns' entire run

Morrison's New52 Action Comics Run

Rucka's ruin saga and Joe Casey's last 10 issues of his adventures of superman were pretty good.

And THAT is why Lex is Superman's arch nemesis

Its funny the new 52 had some standout arcs but i dont think there has really been any single issues that will be considered clasics in the coming years. (Im talking in general i have barely read any nu52 superman)

Maybe some of the villans month issues

Im reading action #775 its good but i really do feel we something in between.

What did you think of the comic in your image, OP?

I thought the three parter, especially #3, was fucking amazing.

It's a damn shame no one has read it.

Lois is not wrong i get what he was trying to do but he really should have had some backup from new genisis in case things went wrong.
Also was that luthor as president and if so when the fuck did that happen

Fuck the haters.
