What are some good old gems?

I'm talking day of the jackal, battle for algiers and sorcerer type films?

Zulu?

Wake In Fright
The Last Detail
Nashville
Cruising
Hard Times

Never seen Battle for Algiers, how is it? I heard it's the favourite film of many Commies and Champagne-Socialists...

Gunga Din

funny that we both posted films with Gary Bond in them... He was in "Zulu" and "Wake in Fright".
It's a shame he never really got famous. The only main-role of his, wake in fright, became a lost film and only got a cult following after being rediscovered after his death. Sad!

Go for Broke!
He Walks by Night

Salvador
Emperor of the North (trust me, it's so good)
Thunderbolt & Lightfoot
Killing of a Chinese Bookie

Wake in Fright -- crazy good, as mentioned above

>Never seen Battle for Algiers, how is it?

It's great but yeah it does have sympathetic slant to the ole left worth a watch regardless.

Im going through this list.
Ignore the title.

It's pretty good. It's nailed the whole "documentary" feel. It only seems like it's slightly sympathetic to the rebels because the source material was made by one of the rebels. The director decided to take a more neutral stance on the issue, hence the "documentary" feel

I've seen Day of the Jackal and Battle of Algiers and the movies that remind me most of them are Z by Costa Gavras, Salvatore Giuliani and Hands Over the City by Francesco Rosi and The French Connection

And a bit of St Valentine's Day Massacre (Roger Corman ver.) for some reason

watching lawrence of arabia

stop posting, its a 3 hour movie so pay attention.

i made the thread lad i've seen it before its just background for me

>star 80
great taste. that film is underrated as fuck.
what a way for eric roberts to jumpstart his career. he played a very menacing creep and a loser at the same time...

Kelly's Heroes.

just watch it for the look on the German tank commander's face when he's told what he's actually guarding.

Loved day of the jackal
