Is there a market for cartoons aimed at teens? We have "adult" cartoons (though much of the humor is not mature) and we have kids cartoons. What about teens?
I feel there's huge, untapped potential. We have teen aimed books, games, movies, etc so why not cartoons? Certain cartoons like TLOK and Young Justice seemed to have a teen-aimed feel yet were still officially aimed at younger audiences. I know a lot of teens "outgrow" cartoons and move onto anime because there's nothing aimed at them.
Adam Sanders
That's exactly what South Park, Family Guy, and Rick & Morty are. Teens don't generally like serious cartoons - Too faggy.
Jason Reed
No, those are aimed at adults.
Joseph Cox
well the main problem is teens are mostly in that "im too cool for cartoons" phase so going for young adults is easier since they need something to escape into and forget the horrible world they are in now
Christian Cooper
Young Justice and Legend of Korra were about as close you could get to it. Otherwise you get the teens who like "adult" cartoons like said or teens who like cartoons like Adventure Time, Regular Show, [Miniature Equine Show] and Steven Universe who take what's "for kids" and still like it.
Otherwise, we just have anime. That's the cartoons for teens market. Sorry. The likes of Dragon Ball Subpar is what Teens will watch that is animated.
Lincoln Green
Teens hate cartoons because nothing is aimed at them. They see them as kiddie and inferior
Cooper Watson
Teens don't have any time to watch cartoons, they're busy fucking and doing whatever it is that teens use their phones for.
Nicholas Robinson
Warrior Cats would make a good teen cartoon. The books are aimed st kids but are too violent for kids tv. Same with other books out there.
Charles Edwards
Tumblr's full of teenagers that watch cartoons and do "kiddie" shit.
Andrew Allen
If they were aimed for adults only they would be on a TV block rated 18+.
Adult Swim, Spike TV, MTV, etc were all still aimed for teen AND adult viewings.

The success of Japanese animation in the West proves there is a market for cartoons for teens. However, it may be hard for Westerners to compete with Japan for it.
Asher Nelson
>However, it may be hard for Westerners to compete with Japan for it.
Avatar and Legend of Korra proves that wrong. A lot of Sup Forums crossposters like myself watched Avatar for the sheer novelty of an anime-like setting with western writing
Tyler Wood
And Sup Forums is full of people who wanna fuck cartoon rabbits.
Tumblr is not representative of the general pooulation.
Caleb Jackson
Korra also had tanking ratings after the first season.
Easton Collins
...
Ayden Green
Good point, with the caveat that Avatar is self-consciously anime-like.
Jayden Stewart
Neither of which were successful in the grand scheme of things. Most anime fans don't care, and Japan didn't either. Judging by Korras ratings not many people cared in general
Stuff like Dragon Ball and Naruto are kids shows in Japan. The Jap equevelant of Adventure Time and Steven Universe. Just look at the toy commercials and crap with 6 year olds
Angel Lee
Yeah, and Evangelion originally aired in a kid's timeblock.
Connor Campbell
The second season was also 14 year old fanfiction tier quality.
Jace Ramirez
yes it is, Sup Forums is Sup Forumsmblr after all
Brayden Jackson
People mistake anime kid shows for teen shows because of the content levels and Japanese censors being more lax. they see blood and boobies and think it's for older audiences
