OK, all baiting and shitposting aside, why the fuck are the polls fluctuating so dramatically? It can't be the result of what's being reported in the press. That would mean that people are flip-flopping dramatically from news cycle to news cycle. So I'm thinking there has to be something profoundly fucking broken about the polling methods. Conspiracy theories aside, what is wrong with the polls?

polling is not rocket science, literally - it is not, and cannot be E X A C T. They are asking people months in advance of an event, people who may not have made their minds up 100% and may not do so for weeks/months/ever.
You ask 1000 people, 10 of which give a different result to last time = 1% swing. Its not a Tsunami, nor is it 100% accurate - but a poll of polls, or sites like 538, should be (max) -/+ 3% of the result - which, at the moment, is still too early too call, but, if nothing major habbend before, Clinton _would_ win. Its Trump but, the one guarantee is, nothing never happens.

Because different groups get polled daily and there would be a 1-3% variation depending on who is asked. Or in statistician speak acceptable statistical variance. If someone is about 5+ ahead that would be statistically significant.

They keep changing their methodology to try and squash Trump's lead, and every time he gets so popular that he's overcome their skewing, they change their methodology again to put Hillary back in the lead. That's why Trump appears to spend most of the time trailing Hillary and then passes her for a few days at a time.
They are either trying to discourage Trump supporters from voting, or they are trying to prep our nation's anus for election fraud, and they will point to the polls as "proof" that there's nothing there to see. The good news is that Trump is so stubborn he will almost definitely contest the results if Hillary wins, and he has the cash to do it.
