Would have Sup Forums complained about this movie and its strong female lead if it was released today?

Difference is it is not shoe horned in

It shows a women doing something a man could do, not WOW LOOK AT THIS WOMEN DOING SOMETHING TOTALLY NOT POSSIBLE BUT FUCK REALITY BECAUSE GIRL POWER XD

Why does a female character become 'strong' if she does manly things? That seems counterproductive, especially when real femininity is pure and wonderful.

No because it stays true to the source material, the problem people have with strong female leads, is either they make her a mary sue or shit on the source

>it stays true to the source material
She is the ultimate Mary Sue in the source material

I don't know but Mulan is cool.

Yes.
Sup Forums and Sup Forums only complain about current SJWism and feminism because they werent alive before the 2000s. If they were they'd still complain.

if she was truly feminine, she would have let her father die instead of trying to rescue him

It's not a preachy movie and it doesn't wag its finger in disapproval of the viewer to constantly remind them that they should feel guilty for being white.

All in all it's a good film.

BE A MAN

LETS GET DOWN TO BUSINESS

Because Mulan was about fealty not feminism

Because it shows the benefits of both masculinity and femininity. She doesn't go out of her way to express "GRRRRRL POWER!".

We've had this discussion a million times. The answer is no.

>Mulan has to work her ass off to compete
>Mulan does not do what she does out of indignation, she does it to protect her father
>The men being manly and talking about their ideal girls is treated like it's endearing rather than behavior Mulan has to correct for them
>Mulan never even physically overpowers a man in the movie. She relies entirely on her wits
>Mulan is cute as heck

>mulan
>feminism
she goes to fight in a war and risk death just to make her father happy for once. the exact opposite of what feminism is where they want equal rights but not equal "wrongs"(like the draft for military).

I'm not familiar with the source material but the Disney version shows her try and fail time and time again before getting stuff right and she is up there with the men because none of them are trained and fail too. She excels over the others only because she is the protagonist and is expected by the audience to eventually overcome and dominate. She wasn't automatically just amazing at everything right off the bat or inexplicably amazing at something. She was a realistic character portrayed as having flaws and faults but were able to overcome because that's her progression as a character.

Yes of course it would.

Anything that a woman/POC gets now is immediately stated as "SJW pandering". And all the evidence that you need is to spend 20 minutes on this fucking board.

Every. Single. Time. You people bitch about pandering. No matter what. The instant that a woman/POC gets chosen for any role that matters aside from "love interest #3" they scream. It's ridiculous.

Let's
Get down to
Business
To defeat the huns

Queer ass film confirmed

Female power fantasies aren't new, the difference is they have become so obnoxious recently that even those who enjoy consuming it are starting to be put off.

To answer your question: No. She had flaws, wasn't a misandrist, and was cute.

probably not, I like it.

Sup Forums would definitely be throwing a hissyfit during the build up to its release.

>Mulan never even physically overpowers a man in the movie. She relies entirely on her wits

A woman outwitting a man is just as silly as one overpowering a man
