I did a trade for 5 years. Wait until you hit the pay ceiling and you're stuck doing boring, hourly, work for the rest of your life and getting no respect in society while destroying your body. If you really want to go to a fancy university, spend 4 years in the military so they'll pay for it. Otherwise, go for your doctorate at the fancy university and go to a state school for your bachelor's. I'm getting my bioengineering degree from my state university, then I'm going to apply for the doctoral program at UPenn or Columbia. All people will see is "doctorate in bioengineering from University of Pennsylvania" and I will have absolutely no fucking debt at the end of it because doctoral candidates receive stipends to cover housing and the cost of the program.
Math Majors can work for FBI, CIA, and State Department as cryptographers. Actuaries and accountants (both math majors) are some of the highest paid non-executive jobs in the country, both with averages of >$100,000.

A lot of the engineers I knew from college are not even working in engineering jobs. They're all either tech consultants or working in finance.
Unless you're a genius at engineering, you probably won't get hired as an engineer with just a bachelors.
