Question for a beginner learning Japanese.
I know hiragana and katakana but not kanji yet. But I really want to get into the speaking part. What's a good way to learn to speak it without needing to know kanji?

Watch lots of anime and listen to lots of J-pop while paying close attention to the words you hear and what they translate to. After a few years, you'll be able to understand simple Japanese without subs due to the formulaic nature. Once you have that part down, learning Japanese properly won't look as scary anymore.

I listen to quite a bit of Japanese already, but wouldn't it be impossible to translate just by listening to what they say? Like how would I even know where a word ends and the next one begins?
Ryder Wright
Anime opening subs tend to have both romaji lyrics and translated lyrics. It's obviously not sufficient on its own, but it's a way to get started before moving on to focused grammar studying.
