It is a thing unfortunately. Its supporters are basically all political parties except the AFD, which is the nationalist one, older commies around the age of 55-70, and lefty youth. That's not the majority though, in particular in the former GDR-parts of germany basically nobody supports it. However, germany is a country where people don't like change and are reluctant to vote for different parties than usual, but that is slowly changing.
