Jimmy Carr was the subject of a huge scandal in 2012, when it was revealed he had been avoiding tax by putting his several millions of savings into an off-shore scheme. How the hell did he get away with it?
Other scandals in the UK comedy world include Jonathan Ross and Russell Brand who, during a popular radio show they presented, prank-called beloved Andrew Sachs of Fawlty Towers fame and repeatedly told the confused old man that they had fucked his granddaughter. This resulted in immediate suspension, and Ross lost his prime time talkshow on the BBC (before another channel bought him). Jeremy Clarkson hit a crew member in the face and lost his job as Top Gear presenter.
So how the fuck did Jimmy Carr get away with an apology and nothing else? In shows he presents, people sometimes make references to the tax scandal and everyone laughs. Carr even makes jokes about the whole thing himself. They way he got away with it is ridiculous. I'm not ranting, I'm just seriously interested in how he got away with it basically scot-free. Is it as simple as a team of good lawyers?
He probably paid the back taxes along with a penalty.
Nathaniel Taylor
because jimmy carr actually did nothing wrong. He did what banks, and famously, starbucks had done in the recent times, buy putting his money into offshore accounts, where taxes were not legally required to be paid from his interest. Most people were actually in favour of him dodging the taxman.
yes pay your (((taxes))) goym. how else could we fund the relocation of refugees and pensions for (((boomers)))?
David Howard
Jimmy Carr probably went like this and all was forgiven.
Evan Robinson
People like it when you've got a bit of dirt on you. He was too squeaky clean before. Now he's a tax cheat.
Christian Turner
>So how the fuck did Jimmy Carr get away with an apology and nothing else?
Because its the UK, an apology is the best the masses can hope for before they're fucked over again by neoliberal cunts
Blake Sanders
Avoding tax isn't illegal dumb corbyn supporter OP
Aiden Rodriguez
>Most people were actually in favour of him dodging the taxman. I doubt it. He's one of the best paid comedians in the country. That was a shit load of money he didn't pay in taxes, which eventually go back to the general public. If you're that rich, why are you even doing stuff like tax evasion? If he quit his job right now and never did another gig or tv show, he'd still be set for a life of luxury.
I think this played a part. It got him publicity and in the end the public pretty much forgave him instantly.
Parker Long
irish my arse he's a fucking jew, sure seems to go one about muh six gorrilion and isreal in every one of his gigs
Justin Rodriguez
The other three you mentioned all worked for the BBC at the time, which means everyone feels more outraged because they're tax funded comedians. Carr wasn't so nobody cared as much.
Also taxation is theft.
Hudson Wright
This.
If I had millions i'd do the exact same thing. Don't want to pay for welfare fuckers? Stash your dosh overseas.
Isaiah Kelly
>your kid comes home and tells you their teachers say the school system is spiralling down the toilet with the last few education secretaries >you send your kid off to university and your friends comment on how fees are going up, how they'll have a financial burden for 30 years and how sheepfuckers, scots and paddys get subsidies >border control and controlled migration have been non-existent so all your kids friends are called mohammed and at dinner time the street smells of curry
don't get me started on national insurance
Levi Sullivan
Doesn't pay taxes maybe has to go a few months with comedians joking about it and that's all. Then he gets a standing ovation and everyone buys his book. Yet he still can't take criticism that isn't about him being a jew.
Jackson Price
ross had the biggest show on the biggest channel with the highest wage paid for by the license fee carr does the odd panel show on c4 huge difference c4 cant afford to take the moral high ground
Grayson Rivera
People who are too young to actually have jobs should not comment on taxation. Maybe when your balls drop you can talk about big boy things.
Nathan Ortiz
glory holes
Luis Rodriguez
>he still can't take criticism that isn't about him being a jew There's criticism and then there's just plain hating. >His voice is annoying and he's a little beta faggot is not a criticism whereas >He's a slimy prick for hiding his money from the gubment
Kevin Hall
he fucking killed suzi with that one
James Reed
Because Jimmy Carr did shitty stuff with his earnings while Ross/Brand badgered a confused old man for fun and Clarkson apparently punched a guy.
Xavier Sanchez
>gets away with it He got caught. He'd be in jail if he didn't pay everything back with interest. The way he always told the story is he just got swindled by his accountant saying it's perfectly legal and everything's fine. It doesn't exonerate him from his crimes, but it's believable he was just being stupid and not jewish.
>that 8 out of 10 cats episode after they found out about it and he was on the news
also this that wasn't a "get away with it", OJ simpson got away with it.
Gavin Bailey
He did nothing illegal, just amoral. Couldn't be prosecuted for it, and there wasn't enough public outrage for him to lose his job or fame.
Oliver Murphy
>complain about 1 man dodging taxes still uses banks >still shop at supermarkets and chain shops >still vote >billions spent each year on weapons
carr did nothing illegal, and nothing that banks and hops do. Just google jersey tax exempt status and see how many of the popular franchises you know that are actually companies based out of jersey he even made comedy about it. Based jimmy carr
Ryder Williams
did you reply to the wrong person?
my post is accurately ripping into taxation or at least how extortionate taxes are spent
Logan Johnson
he probably didn't read anything, just saw the green text and thought you are talking shit
Gabriel Rivera
kys
Josiah Reyes
Best episode. He did his three little jokes routine as always, then just sighed and went "Well, I guess I can't postpone it any longer"
Christian Stewart
seemed like you are implying that jimmy carr dodging taxes is a contribution to our country getting more fucked up because of lack of money through taxes.
Our country is fucked up because, capitalism, and greedy fucks keep getting into power, because our political and social system is archaic. As for taxes, carr is small potatoes. Just look how much natwest jersey makes a year. You think they pay adequate taxes.
Blake King
i always talk shit family
Lincoln Gomez
are you genuinely a british taxpayer?
i can't conceive how you'd think someone would think to bemoan a LACK of tax money
get a job, pay some tax then look into the issues you're talking about - the state has changed because of a 'new' movement more or less born out of communism that some dithering old cunts shuffled in after the war don't get me wrong i don't blame the electorate of the 40s, 50s and whatever for accepting freebies post-war but the extent of socialist practise in britain should have been constricted yonks ago
it's part of the reason i can't just let you think this shit and say to myself 'oh it's cyclical, we'll go back to conservatism at some point' - socialism is rife in britain, it's new, it's shiny and it doesn't work
