So whats the plot ? People keep telling me to read the book or its too much to explain, but i dont want to read a book i dont have time for that atm.

read the book, it's too much to explain.

the movie is absolutely going to butcher it thematically, 100% guaranteed.

What if Reddit was a book

It's basically just a long list of pop culture references

Reddit Player One?

An autistic sperg from re ddit plays second life

literally logged in to comment this. it's more YA garbage that plebbit loves

kek

I didn't realize how many of my friends read this fucking shitty book until this trailer came out.

so in other words, this movie is for plebs and autists ?

...

>but i dont want to read a book i dont have time for that atm.

Sounds like Ready Player One is perfect for you

Its a book for soy consuming bugmen who are 80s video game buffs and have numale cuck beards. its a fan service shitnovel for people with pea brains where the main character is a self insert for the author to reconnect with his childhood and have nostaliga orgasms with every pen stroke.

don't read it

as is the book see:

This movie was obviously greenlit when some old out of touch jews thought VR was gonna take off. Then it didn't and they still went thru with it.

This will be the straw that breaks the nostalgia camels back.

i dont have the time to read a shit book

Sculpture, Painting and Music are done better by a machine than by a man. the last refugee was literature. Ready Player One will show VR will kill Literature.

Willy Wonka but with videogames and the golden tickets are 80s references

>the movie butchered it
This is what plebs who don't understand the fundamental differences between novels and film as means of storytelling, and think that every book adaptation must be 100% loyal. They also don't mind narrations.

Don't read the book. Listen to the audio book instead. The one read by Wil Wheaton. That is the only form it will ever be good.

audiobookbay.la/audio-books/ready-player-one-ernest-cline-3/

its basically sci fi for the capeshit audience. a fedora tipping comic con going mainstream fantasy that can also be enjoyed by NPC middle aged men and children who work a 9 to 5 and watch game of thrones

>Wil Wheaton
>good
Does it hurt, being this reddit?

Holy shit! Is the whole book written like that? That's fucking insufferable

>i dont have the time to read a shit book
>makes a thread asking losers that can't even talk to girls to explain the plot of a shit book to him

Sounds like a great life you have there

>makes a thread asking losers that can't even talk to girls to explain the plot of a shit book to him
how does it feel to be a virgin ?

if the movie is in 2050 or whatever, shouldnt they be glorifying basicaly this year, and not the 80s?

You don't understand, this is literally the only role he's ever been good in and all he does is read a fucking book.

>Thematic adaptation = Literal adaptation

and you're calling me the pleb.

I agree it doesn't suit for some books, but there is literally zero reason Ready Player One couldn't be faithfully adapted to a movie.

I disagree with these idiots calling it Reddit-tier but they're not wrong in that pop-culture is thematically central to the story.

amazing how the author perfectly imitated an insufferable reddit poster fishing for upvotes

This reads like a light novel.

Don't double down on it.

There was a treasure hunt made by the wealthiest guy on the planet who made Oasis. He dies and the treasure hunt starts. Who ever wins, gets a fortune beyond fortunes. Since he was a super deep ultra 80s nerd who lived through the 1980s everyone delved into the 1980s looking for all the clues hidden in the Oasis. So, the 80s was IN again.

even light novels have more tact that this. YA fiction too.

Its sad how wil wheaton forgot how to be cool

Okay, but you are missing out. You won't be able to dis this movie harder than you can right now if you don't listen to the audio book. Judging by the trailer, there's almost nothing in the movie that's in the book except the very basic plot and some names.

Is this bait, or an actual passage from the book? This is honestly one of the most cringe-inducing things I've ever read

ok, that makes sense

I don't read books written for children, and audiobooks are for people that think they're too busy to actually read but shitpost at least 3 hours a day.

That sounds fucking atrocious. Is there a single original thought or concept in this "book"? It's literally More References = Better: The Book.

I wouldn't know

>Life is shit
>The Matrix-Internet is the only escape from shit
>Scavenger Hunt to find Matrix creator's fortune
>Evil corporation wants to take away net neutrality by finding fortune first
>poor kid finds first key
>mary sue gamer gurl finds second key
>poor kid's best friend is a lesbian tranny fat black woman literally all the tokens shoved into one character in real life

>The 80s was a long decade (ten whole years)
Holy shit

Yet, you post on Sup Forums and in threads about things you don't like.

>billions will watch this movie just because their favorite pop culture refference got in
>it will probably beat both Avatar and Titanic
>first movie to hit 3 billion
are you ready Sup Forums

>That is the only form it will ever be good.

Yes I'm sure he's incredible reading this trash

do you really think he meant this literally, you fucking retard?

Do not read the book.

Holy fuck it's awful.

It is the 'le reddit' trope in book form. And if you read it like that I guess you might get something out of it, as analysis on shit.

It might actually work as a movie. But the book is empty of content asides from pandering.

World is an overcrowded multi-cultural liberal utopia.

People escape the diversity by plugging into a VR version of the internet. Our hero likes to inhabit a pathetically childish and 80's nostalgia infused portion of it.

The mysterious guy who made it is giving away control of this virtual world and sets up a treasure hunt/race.

Only our fat nerd virgin and his attractive (but gross and diverse irl) friends possess the HEART and access to wikipedia necessary to unravel the clues who can stop an evil corporation from taking it over instead - despite all of their infinite resources.

The plot, characters and action comprise about 50% of the book. The other 50% is long lists of shit from the 80's.

I figure it will sorta flop due to being lined up with something else that has more marketing.

All I've said is Wil Wheaton is shit and you're a pleb for listening to audio books.

It is different when an actor is embellishing it, but as a book it is fucking trash.

>he doesn't listen to audio books and shitpost on Sup Forums at the same time

I'm listening to Harry Potter 4 right now!

I thought all the cool references would be cut out. Weren't there supposed to be Gundams?

No one will ever glorify this decade or the last. No amount of nostalgia will fix that.

I don't even remember what the giant robots' names were.

>80s japan
>no Akira

what would kanye think??

If you are 14yo or close to that right now, then this will be your "good old days" for video entertainment. When the 14yos of now reach 25-35 the cycle of nostalgia will repeat and bullshit like the OP will happen all over again.

The RX-78 is definitely in there.

Because of time constraints, I'm expecting;

OTHER MOVIES: THE MOVIE

Audiences can rejoice by seeing screens filled with things they recognize.

Young, overweight men can demonstrate their prowess to prospective sexual partners by recognizing things that others may not.

Leopardon is also supposed to he there but hes tied to Spider-mans rights

There's not much to remember. Rap, Country and pop (rap light). Reality shows, the death of subcultures, social media. It's largely empty and plane. Everything about these last two decades has been the bare minimum.

Basically the whole book is like this

it's vrKino

>no Ideon

As I said in another thread:
>No X-Files

Fucking pleb.

Early 2000's internet...probably vidya?

Young Adult sci-fi?

No one seems to care about 2000's music or movies though.

But the memes...

There's not much to explain at all, it's incredibly simple. Everyone in a virtual game world go on an easter egg hunt competition with an evil corporation that cheats to try to beat them.

Imagination laaaannnd Imagination llaaannd llllmagination land!!

ernestcline.com/spokenword/npa.htm

Have you guys read the author's poetry?

>I read and watched a bunch of pop culture bullshit
wow

...

Nu metal and pop punk
MTV reality shows
Meme templates

Two words:

Eh Pic

Fuck outta here...

what is the thick edition?

>I watched Yamato and Speed Racer
>I'm an anime expert now

>no votoms
Fucking pleb

>80s bands
>Pink Floyd
Fucking hell

How do you make a movie of people sitting in a chair in front of a screen in the early 2000s?

It also looks like HR Pufnstuf only existed for 17 episodes in the autumn of 1969

I suddenly understand where Candle Cove came from

>all the (You)s hating on this
>HURRR THEY DIDN'T INCLUDE (OBSCURE THING I CARE ABOUT BECAUSE I'M A REAL NERD) WHAT A HACK!

jesus christ take it easy nerds

CGI reconstructions of prime Asia Carrera and Jenna Jameson

The only reason I'm interested in this movie is because it might be cyberpunk.

more like cyberjunk

reminder that films like this are an attack against novelty and the human spirit

getting fucked up the ass doesnt count

Why does he do this?

Get the book on tape for the complete nu male expierence.

Is Ernest Cline the new James Joyce?

It does when the ass belongs to your mom

>Evas
>mechs

Is this the future of "nerd culture" writing?

So its like snowcrash fan fiction?

>REMEMBER THE 80's!?!?!?!

The book is fucking garbage because instead of writing a compelling story and characters, the author relied on these references the entire book to try and make up for it

He's actually a major pleb too. Like maybe one could take these references seriously if he had some taste.
>GI Joe
>Tarantino
>Kevin Smith
Like just end it at this point

did moviebob write this

In the book he starts out as fat.

ernestcline.com/spokenword/npa.htm
>But I don't wanna watch this misogynist he-man woman-hater porn.
>I want porno movies that are made with guys like me in mind:
>Guys who know that the sexiest thing in the world
>is a woman who is smarter than you are.

the ultimate reddit

I don't believe this man has ever felt a titty.

>Inspired by the work of my future wife, a NYT Bestselling author, poet, and NEA fellow.

still don't.

end it all
