They've held plenty of elections, their opposition even won seats and were in the works to have a deal made. But they backed out after America, Chile and other outside forces pressured them to not do it.

I lived in Venezuela most of my life, it doesnt matter what anybody says, or whats, the goverment steals all the money and its a dictatorship. Most people are extremely poor, a couple guys are ultra rich.
