the only link between any of the zodiac murders was the media coverage of each murder. There was no zodiac killer.

They have a pretty good idea who the Zodiac was, but they just don't have enough evidence to prove it and he's long dead anyway.

the closest any law enforcement came to actually finding a suspect in the zodiac killings was the local PD that suspected their murder was not part of a serial killing. Because each murder was committed by a different person and the only link between them was the media coverage.
