The Batman

What's the general consensus on this? I watched it when I was a kid but don't remember much. Is it worth a watch?

I don't remember any outright horrible episodes, but it was nothing spectacular either.

I remember there was one really great episode about the Clock King, though. The Batman vs. Dracula movie was fun as well.

It's not BTAS but I kike it. It's better than beware.

There were some fun episodes and a lot of really good voice actors (Ron Perlman, Clancy Brown, etc.), but it wasn't as good at BTAS. Rasta Joker gets a lot of hate on Sup Forums and Mr. Freeze's origin story was that he was a diamond thief who constantly makes "ice" puns rather than being a heartbroken scientist who is trying to save his wife.

"General consensus" seems to be shifting from "absolute shitfest" towards "not as good as BTAS or BATB, but pretty solid and fun as its own take".
Seconds and the Clayface episodes were fucking fantastic.

It had a lot of good ideas and its take on a lot of characters was quite original. Also it had the best batmobile of all time. The way the plot in the first two seasons' episodes interlaces is well done. Batman actually spending a lot of time being Bruce Wayne was a nice change of pace.

But overall, the poor writing of the later seasons bring it down. Once Batgirl shows up, it gets mediocre

It has a lot of pros and cons, but it holds a small handful of 10/10 episodes.

I liked that the series didn't really make its villains too sympathetic. Everyone in BTAS had some tragic backstory. In TB? Nope. Just a bunch of scumbags. I love that shit.

It wasn't the best animated Batman by far, but it did some interesting things with Batgirl. Some designs were great (Batgirl, Ivy), while others were laughably bad (Joker). Animation was generally average, but there were a few stand out episodes such as the one with the zombies.

But its greatest contribution was Stray Bat.

It had the best Ivy.

Mah nigga.

There will never be a consensus on The Batman, because the series varied so damn much in terms of quality. Sometimes it was really, really good, while other times it was nearly unwatchable. How much you enjoy the series basically boils down to whether you weigh the good or bad more heavily.

Sawtooth Rasta Joker was interesting, had a great voice and personality, and his fighting style was perfectly chosen. The straitjacket sucked but they put him in the suit fairly quickly.

>parody : bleach

kek

I liked her origin as a botanist with ties to Alec Holland better. In "the Batman," she was just a bratty teenager who got exposed to toxic chemicals. She seemed less intelligent and less threatening.

Its good, but its no BTAS. Its gotta suck being tasked with creating a Batman cartoon because everyone is going to compare you to what was possibly the best prime time cartoon of all time

You know the funny bit is that they left hints to his wife but ultimately never went anywhere with it. During his debut episode flashback you can see photos of his his wife

If you don't want to watch the whole series, at least watch the Zombie episode.

Overall The Batman is perhaps the biggest case of "a mixed bag" ever in batman incarnations. Does a lot of fun things (like Joker and Freeze) but at the same time does some rather odd creative choices (....like Joker and Freeze). But I was kind of sad Scarecrow and Two Face never popped up
Surprised D.A.V.E. never became the breakout character of the series like Harley was for BTAS.

It was more fun before Batgirl and Robin showed up. It was nice to see his relationship with Detective Yin going from her wanting to shoot him on sight to her becoming a trusted ally.

D.A.V.E. didn't flop around covered in pudding.

You have a valid point user. Although Id pay to see that

>no Harley/Ivy moments
goddammit
>the possibility of Babs/Ivy moments
I'LL TAKE TWENTY

But seriously, considering they were friends before Pamela's transformation, I wish they explored their relationship a bit more.

Ivy was basically a foil to Clayface. Both were childhood friends to Bruce/Barbara. But Ethan was legitimately a good person, driven insane, then redeemed himself, while Pamela was a selfish brat from the beginning that enjoyed the monster she became.

If I remember correctly, he only had one episode and he apparently "died" at the end. If he had been brought back and developed more, maybe he could have become a crossover character.

That may have been why they tried to do different origin stories for a lot of the villains and why they gave them dramatically different redesigns.

They brought him back for the comic book tie-in to the show, but he only took Joker's personality since all the other ones were destroyed, Riddler was involved, and then he perma-died.

Indeed

It had a much better Bruce Wayne compared to BTAS. But that's only my personal opinion since I hate the cynical batgod angle Bruce Timm favored.

It had a couple of good episodes and drastically improved as the seasons went on. (Season 2-4 being legit good. Season 5 was alright but was basically one giant Justice League backdoor pilot)

The actual animation is surprisingly fluid despite some of the character designs being hit and miss.

Were they not able to use those characters because of some kind of licensing issue?

embargo because this was around the time begins was a thing. same reason why batgirl appeared before robin who was in teen titans.

All the intro tunes sucked. First one sounded like it was a missing Silent Hill or Twin Peaks track, 2nd sounded like a bad updated and remixed Hawaii 5-0 theme .

I like it. It has a more constant level of quality (mid to high), but doesn't hit the highs as high as the original animated series.

It was supposed to be a nod to the 1966 series.

Only memorable episode was The Laughing Bad. Adam West as the mayor was neat though.

They had a comic issue together. It flipped their normal dynamic by having Harley boss Ivy arou d.

fuck you the first theme sounds cool.

It has my favorite Green Lantern.

It's not a bad cartoon exactly, it had a few good ideas and even a few good episodes.

The problem with it is that it's bland and emotionless. There is no sense of danger, all of the weapons are sanitized laser guns or "stun sticks," no realistic looking guns or bullets to offend the soccer moms. The villains aren't much better, they seem more like petty annoyances than real threats to Batman or even just random bystanders.

There's no feeling in it either, tragic backstories don't pack much of a punch, when Robin's parents die for example the vibe is more like "oh man, what a bummer" rather than "MY PARENTS ARE DEAAAD!" There's no great triumphs worth celebrating either, nothing that makes you feel like the characters really went through anything.

I thought It did a great job of showing how cool his tech was and I enjoyed his fighting style

Favorite episode was the Clay face ones and the zombie ones

I really liked the character designs for most of the main characters. Bats looked really good in the first few seasons.

I like Batman and Robin designs. Batgirl, not so much.

Joker and Riddler designs are shit, but Joker as a character is fun.

The design might look better if the eye holes on her mask weren't so large. Maybe nix the skirt too.

Every time I see a thread about this I end up rereading Stray Bat.

google "Stray Bat", my friend and thank me later

>What's the general consensus on this?
Season 4 is great
others -- are kinda mediocre, the best part was of first two seasons was great opening sequence:
youtube.com/watch?v=XwhF4pWBf6c
they changed it later for some reason

season 5 is basically JL by any other name

Her being redesigned as a teen nymph was absolutely GOD-tier and it deserves more art and lewds.

It's a shame they didn't do much else between her and Babs.

kek

I don't really get the Joker design hate. They went with more wild clown hair, and he jumps around like a circus act, so personally I'm fine with it. Although I don't know why he was barefoot all the time, that looked dumb. Also the organ theme was fun

Most of the complaints that I've seen here are that he is ape-like with his bare feet and his posture and it looks like he has dreadlocks.

The Batman vs Dracula was pretty baller
There was another movie planned with Hush, but it didn't get off the ground

I honestly didn't mind the whole 'guitar chords every ten seconds'

Also does anyone have the pic of the random cop Bane-meming a decade before TDKR

>She seemed less intelligent and less threatening.
Are you kidding? Did you watch fleur de mal?
In TAS she became just a plant themed burglar dyke.

Yes, you fucking should. It had a GOAT Penguin and Joker. The later seasons had crossovers with other heroes which were fun. The dracula movie was also bretty gud

You have absolutely, whole heartedly, shit taste. You like less developed generic moustache villains more than actual characters.

Not just that, but the Rumor episode was supposed to be a Hush one, but they couldn't do it.

Also, Beware was supposed to use Hush, but I think he was replaced by Deathstroke and Dent instead.

>that feel when no porn comic of her raping Batman and eventually discovering he's Bruce Wayne and becoming his loli waifu

Hugo Strange's zombie episode was originally Scarecrow, but they couldn't use him because him being in Batman Begins meant they weren't allowed or something

General consensus is "not muh." My personal opinion is better than Animated Series but not as good as Brave and the Bold or Beware the Batman.

Jesus, strike one. They were whiffing from the get-go. The only thing they did well were the fight scenes and Catwoman's redesign.

I would love this so much. This was the best artwork I could find that remotely matches it.

thats one of my fetishes

>Venom Joker 4 years before Arkham Asylum

Some people seem to like it for bat girl and ivy, both of which are cute, young, girls, but I found it meh. Most of the villains felt really, really weak. They didn't even put in any effort to make the show stand out either. Every other batman show went out of their way to stand out in some significant way, but this one just kind of rolled through by copying what earlier shows did.

Besides Batgirl and Ivy (which are CUTE), I thought their own original take on Clayface was pretty decent.

I enjoyed it, batgirl was a cute
Loli Ivy is the best

>Pamela was imprisoned in Arkham Asylum, when she was still living with her parents.
I know she always seemed to be a little bit loose in the head, but this fact makes me sad.

Kabuki Twins will be in the Lego Batman Movie, according to some Lego set.

Stopped reading here.

I like the fact that everybody in the station is used to them by now.

Funny thing is that no one likes Penguin.
When he made his team of villains, no one that already had to do with him wanted to be part of the group.

>Killer Moth is the only one who gives him any respect
>even after he gets into his mutant moth abomination form

Imo, it had one of the best Riddler episodes.

I feel pretty bad for this show, desu. It was a good show with some hit and miss design choices and a pretty nice art style (Jackie Chan Adventures was GOAT) but because it was following BTAS, which is widely considered the best animated show of all time, they were always going to come up short. They had to take artistic liberties in places and do things differently because if they didn't they'd just be retreading BTAS, or even accused of ripping it off.

I remember having fun with it but I haven't actually watched the show in years, anyone remember stand out episodes?

The zombie episode, the clock king episode, and the dave episode were all pretty nice
