Went to the library today to find books on pre-modern history, western philosophy and see if i could find something on early religious ethics and morality.
>Literally 7 books, one was the oxford guide to philosophy >Next to it 2 giant shelves filled with feminism books >Next to that "Alternative Politics" i.e Socialism/Communism, stacked to the top.
CAN'T DO IT ANYMORE Sup Forums THE WEST IS FUCKED I HATE THE NORMIES SO MUCH, REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.
These things just happen to be popular at the moment. Find a better library and ignore them.
There have always been ignorant masses. The used to be illiterate, now they read meme philosophy and politics. Even if they are more vocal and pretentious these days, the coping mechanism remains the same: keep yourself to yourself and don't be distracted or disappointed by their stupidity.

Kek wills it, it must be done.

Steal then burn them m8, i'm making a few posters to put around my campus.

>inshahala brother, the cure has come to use inb4 isis reboots the west
Isaiah Cox
The only library within an acceptable distance which has the books i'm looking for is 40 minutes away, if i'm speeding.
Brody Rogers
Sigh, it's really getting to that point isn't it, i hate what we've become in Aus.
Robert Martinez
Well that's shit, man, but what's a couple of hours of your day in exchange for access to wisdom and knowledge passed down across the centuries?
Dylan Bell
Kek seems to be willing me a lot of things, i guess, but the fact i have to travel to a major city to get them pisses me off, what do i pay my taxes for if not to have serious reading material in my own town.
Nathaniel Garcia
Just do it m8, you can make a difference, it's not like were Sweden yet, fucking steal then burn them.

I will just leave this here:
>ACT parliament passes religious vilification laws
>Vilification on the grounds of religion is now illegal and in serious cases could result in a criminal conviction with a fine of up to $7500, under laws passed by the ACT parliament on Thursday.
It's a half ree from me, least now i can claim vilification for being a white atheist who believes in religious culture as the norm and get free neetbux(Will probably never happen)
Joseph Ortiz
I have sympathy for you, but subsequent generations won't even be able to enjoy the level of access which you are bemoaning today. The pressure which public libraries are under - in this country at least - coupled with the fact that barely anyone borrows books now mean that these places will start closing very rapidly in the next twenty years.
Most people will rely exclusively on the internet for their reading and, because of the nature of search engines, the individual and public wisdom and consciousness will shrink even further.
Robert Bell
I was literally the youngest person(27) in the library today that time has come and passed already friend, the only reason i did go to the library was because i couldn't find it online.
However i'm starting to notice that people don't care to read entire books but think they can form their opinions off the summaries the only thing i can think to do is start building my own library so if i have kids they'll have access to real information.
Lucas Wilson
>It's a half ree from me
Just did a little background check on this for you, Aussie.
Apparently this law applies ONLY to the Australian Capital Territory, not to all of Australia. So, apparently, you can still vilify Islam. Not bad.
Who the fuck tries to outlaw criticism of a set of ideas anyway?
Dominic Reed
>books
Unrelated, but speaking of e-books.... those things are scary as fuck. For instance, if you use Amazon Kindle services? Well, they...
1. Track what you buy.
2. Track your reading speed.
3. Track what you underline.
4. Track what pages you spend the most time on.
5. Store all of this in a central hub.
Not only can the state learn what you read, but they can find out what pages of the book... and what specific paragraphs of each page.... contain the ideas you are most drawn towards studying.
Levi Moore
>donĀ“t read them >??? >profit

Aside from university libraries, these places are basically internet cafes adjoined to reading rooms for the elderly these days.
The internet is obviously a powerful tool, but the way in which most people use it - even very intelligent people - has a massively narrowing impact upon their reading and, as such, their comprehension.
There is a profound political danger in moving from a system whereby a reader had to - often tediously - trawl through several, detailed accounts of a given topic (following intertextual allusions, references, etc.) to reach a mobile, but satisfying, conclusion to a system whereby our primary method of knowledge-getting is to seek summaries then work backwards through a prescribed list of 'recommended articles'. Even relatively 'deep' digging - like searching on JSTOR - will lead most people to the same 3-5 articles on any given topic, whereas previously one might have picked one of dozens of books on a subject.
The death of the epistemological cross-pollination which libraries and books inspire is going to hurt us bad.

Still is nice to be able to sit down, drink a coffee and smoke a cigarette in your own backyard feeling paper in your hands than it is reading it on a fucking screen 24/7.
However your theory on people taking the loudest "Information" and doing no checking is fucking spot on, i see it all the the fucking time and it literally triggers me into a rage.
It's hard not to care about the people in my country, i've always been taught altruism is a great trait to have.
Oliver Powell
this is why you get a reader that never connects to the internet and pirate all your books
Joshua Scott
Is it degenerate to steal library books?
I mean, my taxes did pay for them did they not?
Well none the less, I have a very decent collection of redpilled books.
OP something tells me that someone like myself made off with all the decent shit.
Grayson Cooper
That certainly does sound good. Gave up the smoking a couple of years ago, but that combination used to make me very happy.
It's definitely good to care for your fellows. It's a real shame so many people unknowingly put blinkers on, limit their field of experience and consciousness, and ultimately deprive themselves of aspects of life which are so rewarding.
I really worry - both for individuals and for all societies - about the impact which this radical 'flattening' or 'narrowing' of experience (by mass media, mass culture, and mass consumerism) will have.
In any case, I hope your drive out to that better drive isn't too arduous or boring and that you manage to find those interesting books you were searching for. All the best, buddy.
Daniel Collins
>pirate all your books
>"They'll never use the internet to know what I read!"
>"I know, I'll just pirate books over the internet!"
Carson Rogers
Oh of course i'm just complaining, in retrospect i don't have to get a horse and carriage and sit around for 4 hours to get there, but it's still annoying that my town doesn't have that type of information available from a government institution.
Take it easy mate.
Jason Johnson
It's not redpilled to be a filthy nigger, no.
Josiah Diaz
Holy shit this makes a lot of sense to me. Thanks britanon your words have actually changed somebodies life today. Fuck me, who knew visiting Sup Forums would be a life changing experience?

sd cards are standard on readers
Brayden Turner
Avid reader here--i buy a lot of books from thrift stores and used book stores.
Luke Jackson
>sd cards are standard on readers
>Believing that at some point your e-reader will not make a connection with a computer... either by putting the SD card into the computers and putting it back in the reader.... or by connecting the reader to the computer............. a computer which connects to the internet..... or a computer which connects to another computer through one medium or another that connects to the internet.....

who cares if they know what books you have, download archives of hundreds of thousands of them if you like. Point is they can't track any of that other shit
Jackson Johnson
e-reader screens look pretty much the same as paper and don't strain the eyes like phones and computers. If the browsers weren't so shitty then I'd never use anything else for internet browsing. I actually use it for reading Sup Forums sometimes.

They don't care what you are reading, they just want to sell stuff.
Evan Lewis
>These things just happen to be popular at the moment
lol no, this has been forced on kids by a group of marxist social engineers that want to destroy western society.
Austin Butler
See if your library has the Britannica "great books of the western world" series which won't show up in the search individually but has all the better philosophy books and classic texts.
Jordan Stewart
Don't be a retard and use a kindle then? Seems easy enough.
Noah Morgan
Do you have an interlibrary loan program?
Jaxson Watson
right now they don't
if at some point they suddenly care your ass will be in a labor camp fast enough to make your head spin. That is if you are reading anything that can possibly be misconstrued as seditious.

good post, we really are going down one way or another at this point

Make a request thread on /lit/... they might also point you to all the pirated resources (i.e. local irc install and goto undernet's #bookz channel)

I live near the National Library. Any book that has ever been published in Australia, plus hundreds of thousands of others, is available there to read. Plus huge amounts of historical documents.
