Saw this in theatres it blew my mind.

Its a love or hate film. I not sure yet which way I will go. Even critics will say "total shit" or "Greatest film made that year".

It is a gorgeous slow film that actually tells a very real story and doesn't fall into tropes. Its much more "Thin Red Line" then his later works like "the Tree of life"

Even the people I watched it with, who have good taste in movies, where split. One thought it was a wonderful film, the other thought it was boring.

It's funny how at the time I was like fuck that dude she should have stayed with the bullseye. Now I'm glad she got with batman before dying soon thereafter.

I think the two things that really stand out for me from the film (just saw it)

1. It one of the few movies that avoids making Natives savages or "noble savages" and really made then human.

2. It one of the rare love stories in a major production where the woman falls in love, is heart broken, grows in love, faces the choice, and decides to go with the man she grew in love with as she knows its a much firmer bond.

Most scriptwriters would have her run off with her "True love"

Revenant shot in North America first. THey had to relocate to South America when they ran over schedule and out of snow.

They wanted easy access to water and it had to be freshwater due to Teredo navalis, as this was before they figured out how to protect ships from it other then keeping them in fresh water.
