US Navy

Any Navybros on Sup Forums? 31 yr old degenerate here, going to a recruiter tomorrow. Any advice/suggestions? Leaning towards electronics. Yes, I can handle shitty people and boot camp and confined spaces

>31
Isn't there an age limit?

I think the age limit is 35 to join. I could be wrong.

Corpsman here. Don't go in undesignated. You're a fucking idiot if you do.
Also, if you want to advance quick don't be a corpsman.

Get all of your medical paperwork in order too. Make sure that if you have any pre-existing conditions that they are taken care of and no longer an issue. You'll probably have to get a waiver.

If you want to talk politics (since you're on this board, I'm assuming you do), play neutral or keep your mouth closed until you know who you can talk to shit about and who you can't. If people are offended, they can fuck your shit up in a heartbeat.
If you end up doing IT work, you'll go to school in Pensacola. Be sure to visit McGuire's Irish Pub and get an Irish Wake. It's fucking amazing. And if you go to the beaches, don't go right on Pensacola Beach if you're wanting to enjoy any peace and quiet. Go to Pcola beach and head east. You'll thank me later.

Any questions?

Go to /meg/ on /k/ and talk to them. Personally im navy but Im in school for two years and dont know jack shit about it

What school are you in bro?
I'm stationed in Newport, RI atm

Tell everyone I basic you're 21. Old enlistees are hardcore looked down upon.

They'll look to you for leadership, and being you're 31 and just now enlisting I have to imagine you have no leadership qualities whatsoever.

You think you're lonely now? You're gonna kill yourself before you're enlistment is up.

Just got formally recommended for Supply Officer. Don't know shit at the moment. Looking for advise as well.

You'll be headed to Newport, RI for supply school. If you aren't commissioned already, then you'll have to go through OCS. If you aren't fully up to par with schooling then I think they'll put you in NAPS, which is a prep school. If you get sick you'll probably see me.

Bottom line, just don't lose your head or intelligence and do exactly what you are told.

Thank you. I just graduated college with no military training at all. So OCS is the next step. What should I expect? I hope to salute you one day, user.

PS I'm waiting on MEPS to close my file. Something about needing extra paperwork from a doctor visit a year ago. Should I be worried?

Sorry for the delayed reply. I'm enlisted, so you won't salute me. I'll be saluting you one day, even if you're a dunce lol.
There's a lot of yelling, doing stupid shit repetitively, holding your canteen or whatever in your left hand constantly, etc. It's not that bad. I think by like week 9 or something you get your cell phone, so damn.

As far as your medical record, it really just depends. I had an osteochondromalectomy (removing a benign mass of bone/cartilage) from my right knee and I didn't have any issues because it never really caused me issues after the surgery. I ended up not needing a waiver. I'm sorry I can't give a straight answer.

What happens if you lie at meps and you had depression when you were 18 and now you're 24? Will they find out? I'm joining Marines but I don't want to tell them that or I get DQ.

Op here thanks guys appreciate it

Well if they have your entire medical record then they can tell that you are lying, assuming that your Psych. record is meshed with your regular medical record, which often it is not, or at least in the DoD.

You can potentially get kicked out (within 180 days i think), honestly, or even fined.

So long as you don't suffer from it now and probably in the last year, you should be fine.

>31 yr old degenerate here
Good luck getting in. Recruiters, especially in this downturned Obama slump want 18-25 in peak physical conditioning. Even during Bush, when I joined, they'd prefer a teenaged immigrant without a GED over a 30+ person.

Inside the military they're gutting as many people as they can because of cutbacks. They don't want to deal with your medical issues as you get older and weaker. They want someone who comes in at 18, and gets shit out at 38, before they cause any issues.

>going to a recruiter tomorrow
Anybody can go to a recruiter. You're going to be turned down, if not for some pre-existing medical condition that they'll discover at MEPS, for your age. You're too old to get on that train.

I was in for less than and year and was kicked out after i broke a leg so i can vouch for this guy

I won't mention it then, if they find out I'll attend the consequences and keep moving forward.

If you took ANY medication for it, they will find out. They'll ask why you were on this medication, and they'll start digging.

tl;dr I was prescribed Adderall as a kid, they found out, dug into records diagnosing me with ADHD. I was able to counter it with a second medical opinion and it was ultimately swept away as a mis/over-diagnosis during a fad period.

Do they find out at meps or later on?

Honestly, like I said if it isn't an issue now then it probably won't hurt to leave it out. You wouldn't believe how many active duty folks I see each day that are on all kinds of anti-depressants and stuff.

This user is right. The doc that I work with every day is currently working with a guy trying to get into the Army and he took Adderall like 3 years ago or something and has been cleared, but has to go through a few hoops to get the thumbs up.

Don't go? If you join at the wrong time, that dictates your career. You can join when you have the pick of jobs and great promotion rates, or get sit jobs with little to no shot to promote. And you might be working under idiots who think they're great but really they lucked out and joined when it was good to.

Depends. I was passed over in MEPS because I was a pretty generic person and didn't include any of that in my records, but I was hit in basic because my job required an SF86 (security clearance) investigation which is much deeper.

It was a lot of series of fortunate circumstances (and a need for non-shithead security-cleared people in a wartime recruitment effort) that got me through it, but they were well within their rights to entry-level separation me for undisclosed medical issues.

Thanks for clearing that up, i know I'll pass meps but I'm afraid they'll dig and see that I was taking antidepressants and get me a fraudulent discharge.

No worries. Thank you, just got off work.

I had really bad step throat and got hematuria or something and I never went back after I got well.

I really appreciate you taking the time you have to respond. Good luck in your endeavors.

>i know I'll pass meps
How do you know? Just wondering, because right now, recruiters (to include MEPS) are looking for any reason to turn people away.

It's a lot different from when I enlisted, where recruiters and MEPS were actively looking to conceal just about anything to increase their numbers. It's a much more quality-over-quantity thing now.

im joining up also...
recruiter is supposed to give me a call back tomorrow..

>31 year old recruit.
Jesus christ, how is this even allowed. Are there not enough 18-25 year olds enlisting?

When I was at MEPS months ago, the doctor made a guy go home because he had a small wart on his finger.

Official cutoff is 34. Back in Bush it could get waivered to 42 in exceptional circumstances. Marines is like 28 though.

I have never seen a 30+ in basic though.

Bless you for serving our country. I'm joining the Army after high school 11B

Ex-Navy here. GSE w/ NEC 4125, DDG console tech... got out in 2001 and slid into a six figure power plant job.

Advice??

Don't go nuc... fuck those guys.

Do keep your dick sucker shut and dick skinners at your sides at all times until you're out of basic. If you fuck up... you will fuck up... admit it loudly and to your RDC and tell them it won't happen again.

Don't go for a shit rate. Navy is for getting good training then maybe college later if you want an office job.

Recruiters gets points for certain high demand rates... like nuc tards. Don't fall for it. Washout rate is high if you even qualify. Research the rates!

You can absofuckingluty pick any rate you qualify for. MEPs will offer you three.... don't assume that's all you have!!!

Don't admit to any issue from your past unless you want to not get in. Think they'll find it? Do you really think theh care?? Nope.

Navy is a nice gig... first few years suck but once ha get a crow it's fucking awesome. But only if you pick a good job!!

Choose your rate... choose your fate!

Oh.... and small ships are better than big ones in all ways sans the North Atlantic... fuck that place and being sea sick.

Oh... fucknsubs too.... no one I ever met in the real world that was a bubble head ever... I mean ever had a good fucking sea story... was always about how much submarines suck.

DDGs are the shit which is why I went GSE... I knew there were only two classes of ships with turbines and of course the LCACs but they're meh... So I knew before going to boot I'd be on a small ship, lots of liberty ports and pussy. Also knew my rate would prequal me for a slick civi power plant job.... Look up LM2500 turbines... then look up a GE frame 7Fa, those big bitches are what I operate now.

Fuck thats tok much info... wutever.... getting paid on shift right now, life rocks.

Well I didnt know it was that complicated then i don't know if I'll pass it but the recruiter seemed confident enough that's all I can say.

Haha no worries. I'm just waiting for some shit to happen in Milwaukee or the Trump rally to start, so I've got nothing else to do.

Strep is absolutely nothing. Penicillin and done. Hematuria is blood in your urine, which shouldn't be related to strep. Idk if you're a guy or gal, but it's relatively rare for a guy to get a urinary tract infection, which could potentially lead to hematuria, or even a kidney infection.

>31

Um... Hate to burst your bubble.

Electronics Technician here, if you want to advance quickly become an IT. They don't have to actually know or do anything, and their advancement rate is wide open. Will answer any questions you have.

Canadian reserve itt

All militaries want personnel, just don't be a huge liability and the process will go smoothly. Research the various trades available and pick one that sounds like it has actual civilian applications. Electronics-based ones vary in this regard -- you can be a radar or sonar operator, which isn't the same on land and is done on commercial ships by navigators (i.e. your officers) so you'll never get a non-military job with that experience, or you can be in comms, where you're a glorified SysAdmin and learn all the same windows and linux systems that literally everyone else uses.

The only advice I can give you for basic is learn how to do housewife stuff like cleaning and sewing, because no one's gonna do it for you and you can make a lot of favors by sewing people's nametags or patching holes in socks or w/e

also the navy is not as gay as you'd think. lotta degenerates in general, though. Expect to be pressured to go clubbing a lot, and there will be a lot of redditors and furries all over the place. Navies are always full of weirdos. It's great.

ps are you afraid of fire or drowning at all? because you'll probably have to do training related to both of those.

learn more everyone but me gotta learn more

>serving Juden

What do you mean choose your rate? I'm going in as an officer.

Recruiters would suck your dick if it meant getting you to enlist. (Although now in >2016 they can probably actually do that. :^) ) They're essentially used car salesmen.

It really depends. If he has done a lot of work personally for your enlistment, your chances are pretty high. (He doesn't want to waste time on a chance if it's not good.) But, if you've done the majority of the legwork yourself, it may flop in MEPS. (A no-effort gamble on his part either means a little bit of paperwork time wasted, or a potential bonus for his paycheck if you make it.)

In any case, good luck. I just try to provide realistic info, because recruiters and liaisons in MEPS don't.

Enlisted people have to gamble on jobs. Usually it's "select three, be picked for one". (What recruiters and MEPS don't tell you, is that you can walk away until you get the one you want. It's literally like a car dealership.)

Officers don't have to jump through that roulette.

Are you the OP?

Yeah and I appreciate it man I'm just getting ready for it.

>If you want to talk politics
Don't talk politics at the office

and by "the office" i mean both at your recruiter's office and in any future military workplace

I guarantee your coworkers don't want to hear it, and anything you say as a Sup Forumsack is a huge liability. you'll probably find that people are ~redpilled~ in their attitudes, and really, most people are in the current year, but it's still not safe to be a literal neo-nazi in the mess.

Officers still have various trades, and not all of them go to sea or have civilian job equivalents. I dunno the american specific trades, but up here we have things like Intelligence Officers that collate reports on stuff, Surface/Sub-service officers (we call them "mars" for some reason) that are basically just trained to be captains of ships, Padres that are religious and social workers, etc.

What specifically you go into will often depend on what kind of degree you hold, but not always. Someone with a degree in theology or sociology is likely to become a Padre, for example, or someone with one in electrical engineering will probably want to go into something related to electrical, computer, or signals systems.

GSM reporting. Man you guys had it easy.

no

Haha!
He's right you know!

I have a degree in Economics and I am entering Supply. Thanks!

You can choose whatever, it's not like it really matters that much except for Padres and Theology or Medical Officers and, y'know, medicine, but if you're boring enough to pursue Economics in school you're boring enough to enjoy being a Supply O so power to ya buddy

>Any Navybros on Sup Forums? 31 yr old degenerate here
r u me

>going to a recruiter tomorrow
I am so, so sorry.

>Any advice/suggestions?
Don't.

> Leaning towards electronics.
Hope you like getting shocks.

>Yes, I can handle shitty people and boot camp and confined spaces
No you can't. No one can until they've truly experienced it.

Former Navy here (2003-2007). Don't go nuke, and don't go subs. Unless that's your thing. Engineering is a shit field if you can't tough it out. Six on, six off (doing maintenance), six on again, and six off (at least three of which is more maintenance. Aviation is roughly the same.

Seabees is a meme field. Don't do that.

Don't go undesignated or anything related to Boatswain's Mates, unless you like chipping pain. Go Gunner's Mate and play with guns of various sizes until all the joy is taken out of it.

Keep your head down until you get out into the Fleet. Basic, tech school... You're not a real sailor until you've done the walk of shame back to the ship after your first port call. Work hard, play hard is the rule. Learn your shit, learn from your superiors. None of that "Well, back in tech school..." bullshit.

You will be bottom of the barrel for a while. The Boot, the FNG, etc. Expect to get sent on shit details every other day.

But remember to work hard. That will be noticed. Study your shit, get qualified. Work on your ESWS as soon as you finish your basic shipboard quals. You make rank (E-4+) based off of evals and tests. You probably won't make rank on your first go around, but that's no way to think. Become shit hot at your job, and you will make rank.

Just remember one thing: It could always be worse. You could've gone engineering.

Pic related, my old ship.

Hahaha, that's me! Seriously, that was my selection though. My first choice was Intelligence, but I'm happy with Supply.

I see, the fake navy then. Shore duty faggot.

>not going comms and doing 3-in-1 literally just sitting in an air conditioned room monitoring message traffic

it won't be exciting but you'll have valuable work experience in procurement/management when you get out so thats good

ayyy lmao, im going to le recruiter tomorrow too, probably just gonna go in as a machinist mate.

>Don't talk politics at the office
In the >2016 US Military, even more so.

I got out right at the transition. It was quite jarring to use the term "faggot" as an endearing term like we do on Sup Forums one year, but then watch people get in actual paperwork trouble the next year because gay marriage (and now trannies) are a thing in the military.

Generally, in the army/marines, and in the engineering/technical disciplines of the navy/air force, people are 99% republican. Faggots and PC Police tend to stay in the desk jobs, but under Obama's military the PC culture is leaking to all parts of the military.

Watch your back. Dont piss off your Chief. Go to Thailand and make illegitimate children. That's what I did with my 4 years. Bootcamp sucks it's a game to cuck you out and obey orders no questions asked. Make your parents proud and do something with your life.

>A fucking leaf knows what being in the USN is like

Are you at least a traitor living in Canada?

>fake navy
I was full chair force. You get paid the same, you get the same benefits, and you deal with the same politics, whether or not you're punching excel buttons in an A/C'd office or getting fucked in the ass in Shitskinistan (or a boat).

It's not good dinner conversation in general, when has talking politics with workmates ever been a good idea

it's still a modern navy in a NATO country

do you not air-condition your CCR in the US?

Nuke detected
Fucking weirdos

That's what I did. Crypto tech. Fucking hated it when I was in, but I was damn fucking good at it. Made E-5 under 4 before getting out.

I'd give someone's right nut to get back in.

If you aren't sailing, you are fake navy.

Fuck off, Navy. Only if you give me your left one.

Let them roast.

WTF? I made HM2 in 3 years. Got out in '05 though.

Youre gonna hate the fuck out of it

>i hate clerks and supply wah wah fuggin pogues wah wah
i guess you also hate getting paid on time and eating every day

31 year old here. I'm thinking about enlisting in..

AHAHA NEVERMIND

Contractor here. $$$$ lololol $$$$ Vote Hillary.

CTR pls go this thread isn't even related to Trump unless you want to piss off Republicans in the armed forces.

>t. bitter guns that never saw more than 3 months of shore at a time for a 6 year contract

Thanks!

Thanks Canada!

Yes, they're paying for my dental school. All the other fags in my class are going to come out owing 450k at the end of 4 years while the Navy is literally paying me to attend school.

>Canada
MS are on ships, so are yeoman as well. Supply is a completely different section of the navy. Has nothing to do with eating and getting paid dumbass.

This right here. IT is in high demand. If you do well on your asvab, they will send you to C school and automatically promote you to e-4 once you complete it.

I'm not a shill bro. Hillary going to start wars on wars, that means $$ for me.

wouldnt contractors make less because there's less peacetime busywork maintenance to do

or is america still hiring mercenaries and writing letters of marque

Depends on your asvab breakdown. I got 113 on my general technical the army oic at meps tried getting me to go infantry with airborne and ranger in my contract. The civilian dude said fuck that here are some better suited jobs. I picked chemical operations specialist with reconnaissance (L4?) Identifier. It's been almost a decade. Should have went ranger.

No, friend-o. Not that type of contractor.

You've aged out of the Navy already. Your only choice left is the Army.

>Hematuria is blood in your urine, which shouldn't be related to strep.

Could be post-streptococcal glomerulonephritis.

IT in civi land is risky and non-secure. Too easy to outsource to those dot heads willing to work for chump change.

My bro was an EW and got into IT due to all the clearances he had already got in service. Makes less than me in the power industry. Not saying its all bout the money but it sure is nice.

Enlisted military are paid dogshit wages, bordering on minimum wage. Contract work pays 5-10x that rate, depending on the career and danger.

Air Force mechanics can generally get picked up at any one of the military companies like Lockheed/Northrop, or ironically, get picked up for the Air Force reserve/contractors.

>tfw you see people get out, then come back three months later with a GS # and twice the paycheck

Anyone have the 2016 CREO list for the Navy?

He's talking PMC stuff Leafriend.

Gas Turbine Mechanic actually and didn't join the navy to be a fucking lame ass desk jockey. I wanted the ocean you queer.

IYAOYAS

What ship GSM/bro?

But it comes with experience and security clearance. If OP is smart, he'll be able to leverage that in his favor should he choose to retire after 4 years.

You enjoyed eating bad food, being in cramped quarters with men who don't bathe enough and baking to death in engines? More power to you I guess.

Sounds like living the dream to me, m8. You can't help that you're a pussy.

I joined the Air Force and ended up being a lame ass desk jockey. That translated into being a civilian lame ass desk jockey that pays better.

Whenever I hear about people shitting in buckets and thinking 90 degree weather is "cool", I just laugh, because it's a V O L U N T E E R force and they could've chosen to have an A/C unit.

>tfw you work in the commander's office and get fresh coffee and primo 68 degree temperatures

Found the retard

99/100 it's ideopathic in males.

lol... sound like a pussy numale. Sounds like you're describing Das Boot.

As a man I can say dealing with heat, shit food and all that overseas pussy was rough... yeah.... wouldn't do that shit again. Best get a huge student loan and bitch about a fake ass office job with people that want to comit suicide eryday.

inb4 you get turned down for being too old and not having advanced degree.

12 year Navy guy here, had asthma prior to service. Never disclosed, never an issue. Was put onto anti depressants while doing a deployment to the middle east, took them for about a year then stopped. No negative outcome from that either. We are people like everyone else.

>Best get a huge student loan and bitch about a fake ass office job with people that want to comit suicide eryday.
You still get the GI Bill regardless if you desk jockey it or ARMY STRONG it. If you decide to grunt it out, good for you, but you're the exact same as anyone else in your pay grade (even the pregnant finance girl who misses 75% of work)

If you haven't finished high school by now then you still have a year to go and you're either underage or a moran
