Hello Sup Forums, I've always played video games and never really watched movies. Now that I'm older I realize video games are a shit tier manchild hobby.
I would like your opinions on essential movies that everyone should watch. I've never seen anything except for mainstream superhero movies in the past 10 years. Which means I've never seen Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, etc. The last movie I saw was Reservoir Dog.

Start with classics/modern classics that are also considered accessible.
Check out the films by kubrick, spielberg,
lynch, paul thomas anderson, hitchcock, fincher, the coen brothers, Tarantino, etc. Basically entry level directors that also happen to make mostly good films. Definitely recommend you check out lotr as well

Just start watching the imdb top 250. around 150 of the movies there are entry-level classics that will give you a nice foundation and you'll see what you live and explore further.

Serious question OP, what made you stop playing vidya? I've honestly been playing less and less over the years myself.
I guess just because I've grown out of it. Since I was a kid it was pretty much my only escape (didn't have many friends), but now that I have matured and made relationships, including a wife and kids, I can't find a reason to play.
This and when everyone around me talks about movies I always spill spaghetti because I'm uneducated in film.

Skip popular movies, they're absolutely unentertaining, go for the B-films instead. They're immensely entertaining in their own schlocky a e s t h e t i c.
Start with Tim Burton's Sleepy Hollow, then the Roger Corman and Hammer Horror collections, then kaiju films, then low-budget horror. That's good shit right there: all the thrills and chills of cinema, but without the pretentious drivel Hollywood throws in to try to nab Oscars and Academy Awards.

I think it's probably more that most of the big games released these days are trash. It's similar with movies but lower budget movies are generally better than lower budget/indie games. Partially I think because movies are easier to make than games. I actually don't play video games much recently because of this too.
