I'm still not convinced that soyboy isn't a gay roleplay term

it's "yo soy"

putting "yo" before everything is what beginners in Spanish do

"Yo soy estudiante" "yo fui al cine" "yo tengo un perro"

We don't use "yo" unless we're specifically stating or making emphasis on it.

"¿A qué te dedicas?" "Soy estudiante."
vs
"¿Quién es estudiante?" "Yo soy estudiante."
