>A new miniseries based on the Dragon Ball Z special, The History of Trunks is coming to HBO in 2018 >The show will opt out of typical Dragon Ball conventions and not include most of the typical Dragon Ball cast >Trunks is a young teenage boy who must protect the future with his best friend Gohan after Android's eliminate humanities last hope for survival. >The show is looking to take a more grounded and gritty take on the story, opting out of mentioning phrases like "Super Saiyan" that the Dragon Ball franchise has become popularly known for.
>The show is looking to take a more grounded and gritty take on the story
No flying, no ki blasts, it's gonna be terminator
Dylan Bennett
>HBO >doing any weeb shit
nice try, virgin
Elijah Lewis
>MC is a young white man >one of the villains is a white female No way this shit is gonna fly.
Aiden Stewart
no ssj, no super powers, sounds weak as fuck. thats not dragon ball.
the story is a good idea, but tossing canon out of the window is fucking retarded
Jason Torres
Make Bulma into a strong female protagonist.
Problem solved
Nicholas Smith
Sounds more to me like they are just trying to distance it from the Dragonball franchise. Super Saiyan stuff will probably still be in it, but not referred to as such. It's kinda important to the story after all
Lincoln Collins
>make a history of trunks show >remove the whole super saiyan part of it which was a huge part of trunks motivation
lel hbo
Jaxson Smith
Still gonna lack diversity. Black Gohan-sensei?
Nathan Clark
Dumb name
Adrian Phillips
...
William Hill
he is a monkey after all, so they arent going to change him much
Nathan Gonzalez
>it's a nobody even fucking checks the link episode
Benjamin Morales
i mean i would be interested in a darker, different spin on the story for sure, but like said, they better not remove SSJs and superpowers and all.
Adrian Young
At long last... animekino is here...
Daniel Wright
>How you want your movie senpai? >Let's loosely link it to some existing franchise, while gutting all lore and character of the world so we can con an otherwise uninterested demographic into watching it
>Say no more
Jason Clark
>a western re-tool of the franchise
Expect every hero to be gay, black, transgender, Muslim, etc.
Expect the villians to look like they crawled out of WW2 Germany.
Easton Allen
I see the value in dropping the DB branding.
If they were calling it something like DragonBall: The History of Trunks or something like that, it suddenly becomes less about telling a satisfying story and more about appeasing fanboys that expect it to be a direct recreation of DBZ. There would be a certain amount of fanservice required to please people watching just for the branding and that could create problems.
Think of it like that Riverdale series. Obviously Archie fans understand that it's Archie, but they know better than to watch it expecting the exact type of thing they get from the Archie comics
Wait, didn't someone post on Sup Forums a while ago about having the history of trunks being the intro to DBZ because it was going to be easier to get people into.
Nicholas Nelson
...
Evan Hughes
Honestly that wouldn't surprise me. It's definitely the most accessible part of the series for newcomers
Logan Walker
As a paid shill it's good to see how many people just ignore links and believe everything they're told lol.
Jack Ortiz
kill yourself you greasy indian cancer
Zachary Mitchell
this board is fucking retarded with that shit
I still remember the epic greentext KRISTEN STEWART IS MARY JANE 300+ post threads with retards arguing about it
>Entire series leading up to this, Goku is never mentioned by name. Only referred to as "Gohans Father", "Dad", etc. >Final episode >Bulma folds the antidote in Trunks' hand >Go save him Trunks. Go save Goku" >Trunks hops into the time machine >The final scene takes him to "present" Dragonball Z, beginning of the android saga >The series being dark and gritty up to this point, is suddenly bright typical Dragon Ball Z colors >The intention to avoid direct Dragon Ball references is dropped completely and we get full shots of Vegeta, Piccolo, Tien, etc >Trunks sees Frieza and slices him to pieces like in the anime >The final shot is of him looking directly at Goku
Could be kino. Could very easily be kino.
Jackson Reyes
Thanks doc.
Jacob Stewart
Hype
Evan Peterson
>more grounded and gritty take on the story
Into the trash.
Chase Hernandez
> trunks's father was a super saiyan and a member of the ruling elite of the entire race.
Go on. Get around that one.
Jackson Lopez
sounds cringy, are you autistic?
Josiah Nelson
as long as gohan is busting skulls in it il be happy
John Hall
>Avoid mentioning phrases like "super Saiyan" Just sounds to me like they won't use those specific words. There is no implication that those themes are removed completely
Bentley Hill
Has there ever been more kino cartoon anime that history of trunks ? We got to see adult SSJ2 Teen gohan that wasn't a low test beta and Trunks turning SSJ and the tool and sacrifice it takes to achieve it
Jeremiah Miller
>implying its going to happen Just like the Monster series, its just one of those dumb news to make nerds argue on the internet.
Levi Garcia
The word Vegeta is synonymous with the word Saiyan.
Austin Nelson
...
James Thomas
>>The show is looking to take a more grounded and gritty take on the story That's not how you do Dragonball. This is going to fucking suck.
Sebastian Lee
Transformers; The Movie.
But yh Future Gohan was fucking hardcore.
Asher Cook
Perhaps. If they have no issue with having a fully casted Gohan and Bulma, I'm sure they are willing to at least mention Vegeta. Hell, they might even make light drops of "super Saiyan". These things are always blown way out of proportion
Matthew Bell
No that's dumb. History of Bardock is the more appropriate special that people can watch before they watch dbz, even db
David Roberts
Actually I can see this working.
> Trunks asks Bulma about his father. > She stops working on the time machine immediately. Looks down, sadly. "He... He was taken from us not long after you were born, Trunks." she says, sadly. A haunted look passes over her face. > Trunk asks again. "How did he die?". Bulma seems to think hard about something for a moment. Then she gives him a scouter. "I've programmed it to take you to the place where it happened. Even the Androids don't really go out there anymore." > Trunks thanks her, and puts on the scouter.
William Diaz
>that link almost got me op
Brody Rogers
Who the hell still gives a fuck about DBZ and Trunks, this miniseries shouldve been released 15 years ago
Angel Reyes
delet
Samuel King
It could work as a mid-arc transition.
cont.
> Trunks is seen running through the streets, it's dark and it's raining. Presumably to help hide his location from the android's advanced sensors. > he comes to a clearing in the ruins of the city. with a shock he realizes the entire area is a blasted crater the size of many football fields. He advances towards the center carefully. > The scouter activates, and he presses a button on the side of it. > suddenly the set fades away and is replaced with a scene depicting a confrontation between Vegeta and the Androids. Bulma and Baby Trunks are there. Vegeta is fighting his hardest but the Androids are too much for him. > we are shown saiyan combat, but silent as is through the scouter. Trunks doesn't understand what he's seeing.
Future Vegeta dying the same way as he does in the original timeline seems appropriate.
Levi Reyes
>literally a fake link
go home and rethink your life OP
Adam Clark
Why?
Jack Hill
Lel gohan btfo yet again.
Gabriel Perry
What a complete and utter failure of a character.
Noah Stewart
>people actually discussing this seriously do you faggots ever check the links posted or do you just take shit at face value on FUCKING Sup Forums OF ALL PLACES
Daniel Gray
I like to think of it as carrying on the joke.
Michael Brooks
I actually wonder if the japs should just reboot DBZ starting with HoT. As long as it never touches Super material it might be okay.
>click link >it's fake >everyone is still having a full discussion believing it's real
Carter Reed
>people on Sup Forums or dead serious 24/7
woah
Zachary Brooks
shit, i love the gritty parts of dbz, could be good. it could lead to more. is it still anime or live action?
Aiden King
nvm should have known it was fake.
Ryan Gray

Caleb Williams
>mfw wondering if people believe this or pretending
Gabriel Nguyen
why do networks and studios keep going for properties that they know will need to be stripped down of what made them popular in order to sell it to normie audiences
Ryan Fisher
has jobhan done anything useful in the decades since this happened
Jackson Foster
Most sensible post ITT desu.
Austin Barnes
its power levels that ruined dbz and naruto for that matter aslong as they stray away from that type of shit it would be good
Samuel Hill
He killed Cell.
Cooper Turner
Literally came up with the best idea to save the universe in the tournament of power.
>No one in the cuck circle has been eliminated
William Edwards
>in the cuck circle Toei doesn't know what to do with them yet, Toriyama sensei, hasn't sent them the napkin with the outline.
>Make Bulma strong She's always been. From the very beginning of the story. Adventurous and smart. In a world of crazy strong fighters and overpowered freaks, she's one of the few people Goku actually listens to.
Julian Ramirez
The amount of ass bleed this caused is hilarious.
Josiah Torres
Beerus is literally her bitch
Brody Carter
Mai waifu.
Adrian Jenkins
How about this?
>series based off Dragon ball made in an adventure mystical king fu style similar to enter the Dragon, Big Trouble in little China >1st season based off Goku meeting Bulma and going on the adventure to find the dragon balls encountering Yamucha, Master Roshi and competing with the Red Ribon army to get the Dragon Balls >finale is goku transforming and crushing the last of the RR army, Bulma, Rossi and Yaumcha team up with brain and brawn to figure out how to stop Gokus Oozaru rampage >end scene is Goku and Yamcha going to train with master roshi and finding Krillin waiting at the island to also train >season 2 >first half of season focuses on the worlds martial arts tournament, establishing Tien, Chaotzu, & turtle hermits rivalry with the Crane school >Tien barely wins tournament >2nd half is King Piccolo >krillin and chaotzu murdered forcing Tien and goku to come together >finale is Tien and Goku teaming up to end King Piccolo in a similar fashion with goku punching a hole through him and some egg laying >all the dead wished back at the end >season 3 opens with Goku approached by Kami to train in preparation for piccolo Jr. Tien is to impure to train with Kami/still an asshole >early season episodes is training including Tien finding his center >later and majority of the season episodes is the tournament ending with Goku victorious over JR >goku gets married to ChIChi
Z obviously comes in later.
Shit rights itself. Just fucking put together a team that loves dragon ball and old mysticism/king fu movies.
So they had a terminator script laying around, and since they thought it wouldn't be well received because of the recent movies they retooled it to be DBZ related, except there's almost nothing DBZ about it at all.
This is going to be a colossal failure.
Carson White
Don't forget to mention that Trunks is now a black guy, along with most characters.
Henry Walker
He left the circle lol
Samuel Lewis
>OP with fake news >just a flimsy excuse to have a dragonball thread not get deleted by mods Take your Dragongay shit to .

Ian Green
Cast them

Colton Rogers
The characters from DBZ are all asian.
Julian Perez
No they aren't. A lot of them are based off of Chinese mytholigical characters like Sun Wukong but they aren't all asian. Goku and Vegeta is a monkey space alien and Tien is a half human half alien with a third eye.
Jose Gutierrez
Fake news
David Harris
>no they aren't Yes they are, all saiyanjins are japanese aliens, Tenshinhan is japanese and Chaozu is a chinese vampire.
