To The Wonder

This Movie is pure Kino. Watch it. Only plebs hate it.

>malik

not christian enough for this shit

I love Malick but this felt like a parody of his work, and Ben is a really shit actor. Loved Rachel and the other qt though. Malicks recent work has been all over the place in terms of 'writing' and i think his cinematographer got him into this meme mindstate. I hope he can pull it back with his upcoming war film.

he need to get a screenwriter

>Watch "The New World" and "To the Wonder" back to back.

He almost becoming a parody of himself.

it's my favorite malick film :)

I really don't understand the "becoming a parody of himself" meme. He's developing his style, furthering its effectiveness with each film (Knight of Cups being the most in my opinion). He's clearly still sincere, there is no parody involved, or lack of quality

you don't understand because you're a fanboy, even if malick it's shitting in your mouth you would love it

Real question: in which of his films can you get the BEST grass?

Plebs everybody.

>le kino
It's a great film, I'm ashamed plebs like you like it.
>le qts
>muh plot muh writer
Can you discuss anything seriously?

buzzword everybody

Lol what? I think To The Wonder was a misstep, it felt rushed. And I'm still deciding on Song to Song. But everything I said is still true, and Knight of Cups really is a phenomenal film

what do you want me to discuss? the movie sucked, and was only worth watching for the eye candy. what makes this 'great', considering the rest of Malicks filmography and movies like Days of Heaven/Badlands/Thin Red Line are literal cinema classics? Why are you completly ignoring the fact I already said the script in this movie was dogshit and the meme cinematography by Emmanuel wore it's welcome out by The Tree of Life.

It felt like he was doing stuff to be Malick, then anything that carrys the theme.

This is very unlike some of his other movies.

Perhaps To the wonder was a little undercooked, or that Ben was miscast.

I do not think it a bad movie, just far from his best work.

you're just proving my point

In what way?

Will agree on that.

>Cups = not seen

elder god Tier
Thin Red Line
Badlands
Days of Heaven

Great Tier
The New World
Tree of Life

Good
To the Wonder

there's only one way

Sup Forums hates anything unique and make fun of what they don't understand

I'm not ignoring the fact that you think scripts and plot matter in an art film, pro tip: they don't.

You only consider those films "classics" because they have a traditional narrative and plot structure so you don't have to think.

New Malick is not for everyone of course, he is making the most out of everyone in Hollywood, too bad he'll always be panned because of plebs like you.

>plebs like you
lmao, The Tree of Life and The New World was everything nu-malick is trying to be already. scripts might not matter in art house films but Malick has always had solid scripts up until To The Wonder, and that's exactly the reason it feels like a parody of his work. Again, what did you find in this movie to be 'great' compared to the rest of his work? You're just throwing around buzzwords and insults without really diving deep into what you think is amazing about this mess of a movie.

honestly a solid list. The New World is really underrated in terms of Malick movies. Have you seen Song to Song or The Voyage of Time?

>and Ben is a really shit actor.
he's miscast but in no way is that true

Knight of Cups, To The Wonder and Song to Song are great films to everyone with basic cinematic knowledge.

To The Wonder is hardly a mess, it's a masterpiece and you haven't brought up any valid criticisms for it.

Also when you say whatever To The Wonder was trying to do was already achieved in TTOL and TNW you obviously don't understand how personal the film is for Malick, it's almost an autobiography as well as an exploration of his understanding of faith.

The voice over is in the same vein of French diassociative left bank cinema and the editing is paralleling poetic Russian montage, Malick is an auteur, his films are not about plots and scripts, Reddit.

he's not miscast. his performance is honest and cute, unlike the completely disconnected and clueless brad pitt in tree of life.

I thought Ben was alright in TTW, but I always loved Pitt in ToL. Pretty accurate and relatable desu

maybe if you grew up 50 years ago in Texas. i thought he was ridiculous, both the character and the actor

>Have you seen Song to Song or The Voyage of Time?
I have not.

The new world really is great as it telling a story most know in a very good manner.

To the wonder I appreciate since I was in Kansas for a while, and I understood the alienation.

Unlikable =/= bad.

Hell, I still know men like the Brad Pitt guy today.

How can you value Knight of Cups over Song to Song?

>Badlands
>Days of Heaven
Where did it go so wrong from here on out? What kind of brain damage did he suffer during the break?

He grew up, his style matured for the better, unlike your taste.

what makes it a masterpiece?

>his style matured for the better
>he think tree of life, song by song, to the wonder, knight of cups are better than the thin red line and days of heaven

wew

I wonder how BTFO fans of nu-malick will be when he returns to making real kino with a solid script and non meme cinematography when Radegund comes out

>The Austrian Franz Jägerstätter, a conscientious objector, refuses to fight for the Nazis in World War II.

I can't wait bros

Read my post again, Reddit.
They are, I wouldn't expect a brainlet like you to see why though.

They'll appreciate his craft, but they'll understand that Koc, TTW and StS are better, because the people who enjoy his newer films have basic knowledge about film history and film theories, and have all read the existencialists and mystic philosophers.

>it's a masterpiece because of the voice overs

lol

oh he's going to make a mediocre film with lots of "muh plot" to keep the plebs satisfied for a while, cool

>They are

is this a hot meme or are you talking seriously?

That's all you got out of my post? New Malick haters confirmed illiterate.

Watch more films, read about film theories, read the basics of world philosophy.
Then, and I doubt it, you'll maybe understand new Malick, but check out Hollis Frampton first, Malick may be too much for you.

pretty much, why don't you explain what makes it so great for a low iq old malick fan like myself

omg you actually think this, I can't even... what comes next? just post how many times you fapped to wavelength already

What should my first Malick film be?

Diassosiative dialogue, blocking and staging (ie the house scenes), sequence shots mixed with poetic montage, Nietzschean ethics, existencialism, gravity of the human acts, poetic realism.

I can't stress this enough, in order to get new Malick you need to Sometimes films go beyond
>epic plot and epic acting!
Sometimes films like To The Wonder try to transcend film as an art form, while plebs like you stand in line for the next Avengers film.

>existencialism

lmao, this is the iq of your average nu-malick fan everyone

I knew this would be your reply, Reddit, go watch avengers now, shoo shoo.

come on mate, now tell me james benning it's a good filmmaker

New Malick>Benning
New Malick>Snow

Chronological order, pleb.
