It's alright, thoroughly enjoyable but a little shameful to admit to watching because redditors start cumming their pants.

I like it. Sorta fills a bit of the void Futurama left in my heart while still giving me something different. I enjoy the competency- it usually handles side plots really fucking well, where other shows can't handle having even a short one-off joke without it overstaying its welcome.

Only real complaint is the "Jerry is a loser" thing. Kinda contradicts what I just said, but THAT joke is getting old. He's shown no real progression aside from getting a job (that was forced on him) in the S2 finale. We get it, he's a sad sack fuck up who can't make an honest buck to save his life. At least Rick's alcoholism and drug abuse leads to deeper insight of his character; Jerry just is, was, and apparently always will be, a big fucking loser, and nothing really much else.

it's better than bojack horseman

Pretty enjoyable. Sometimes the ad-lib riffing goes on too long, especially in the episodes where they're watching TV shows from other dimensions. But the storytelling is generally tight, and they've got some long-term threads keeping you interested to see how they tie together.

it's a meme show favored by reddit

faggot just watch it and come to your own conclusions

My favorite animated series in years. Sup Forums was hot for its ass until it became popular on Reddit and now has a reactionary distaste for it.

So it goes.

Maybe people don't like it because second season was abysmal and not because it is popular on reddit.

opinions as memes as opinions.

I'd love to believe that.

Is that why most of the complaints are just calling it "Leddit the show"? Gonna need actual opinions from people. That's why the thread is here.

The Jerry thing seems like a popular trend lately. to have one punching bag character that's given no redeeming qualities and is constantly and mercilessly punished. Think Meg from Family Guy or Tobey from the Office U.S.

I completely agree that it's gotten old on Rick and Morty just as it got old on Family Guy. It comes off as creepy and cruel now. The only show that's done well by it's punching bag was Parks and Recreation's Jerry. As much as people constantly shit on him you got to see that he had redeeming things in life (hot wife, loving famiy, huge cock).

Nah that can't be it.

>Think Meg from Family Guy
Ugh. I can't stand that style of comedy. Maybe I just pull for the underdog, but I hate seeing one character getting shit on for too long without a win.

On the one hand, I feel you have a point. On the other hand, I feel like so much of the premise is built upon Jerry being stupid and worthless that giving him growth beyond that would come off as cheap.

Jerry's relationship with everyone else in the cast is predicated on the fact that Jerry is an imbecile who knows he is stupid but is afraid to admit it because he wants to maintain the illusion of his own worth to his family at least, even though he knows no one is buying it. Jerry's family moves too fast for him, even Morty has grown beyond Jerry now, and he can't keep up with their lives.

Changing that means changing the entire dynamic of the show. Jerry being a worthwhile individual means making him marginally more useful than dogshit to Rick, and risks fixing his relationship with his wife and kids.

It would almost be more faithful to the show to kill off Jerry and stop focusing on him than it would be to let him win and grow beyond his failings.

I think there should be an episode where Morty finally meets someone who's nice to him -- but then the guy admits he's in love with him, which freaks Morty out. Then at the end of the episode, Morty has to kill the guy because he's about to start the Third Impact.

Come on Roiland, I just want an episode where Morty questions his sexuality.

...

reddit was all over it's cock IMMEDIATELY. I thought it was ridiculous until I got into it and saw that it really was great. But it's still annoying how reddit treats it and that any thread that mentions it will turn into a rick and morty quote-a-thon. seriously what is with reddit and just quoting things?

> thing is popular enough to be well liked even on the sites that I hate

Oh no, what a cruel world. How dare they ruin the things I love.

they didn't ruin anything for me, i love r&m
it's just an obnoxious, unoriginal community.

A lot of people tried to convince me I'd like it because I love Back to the Future. I ended up watching several episodes, and while I want to like it, it's just horribly offputting to me. I think there's a very specific personality you have to have in order to like it.

How could I say goodbye...

Jerry has redeemable qualities, he comes through for his wife in a life or death situation and in another episode he comes through and admits he was wrong so as not to disappoint his son any further and save a whole (dwarf) planet.

Anything is

The karma system rewards low hanging fruit and emotions

He's a fuckup, but he's our fuckup.

Look on down from the bridge...

The scifi is good. The family drama is bad.

Yep, if you're going to browse reddit avoid the comments unless you're on /r/science, /r/me_irl, /r/anime_irl or one of the /r/whatisthisthing/bug/plant subs. Otherwise you're in for a bunch of stupid god fucking damn puns and shitty jokes and circlejerks.

That color swap makes Mandy actually attractive. Wow

Rick and Morty is okay. Most of the series is okay and has it's moments though there are a few bad episodes. I just hate how since 2011, Sup Forums is obsessed with the "reddit boogeyman" and if a redditor likes something, it's instantaneously cancerous.

every specialized community you are willingly part of is a circle jerk, of course they will pat each others backs and talk about how great the community is, if not for the sake of others, then for their own sake

It's really easy to disregard people like that.
You tend to end up alone most of the time with a mentality like that, but hey.

Gotta love this though.
youtube.com/watch?v=7vN_PEmeKb0

Courts can be ridiculous these days.

>and if a redditor likes something, it's instantaneously cancerous.

Futurama is pretty much in the same boat in that sense but no one says
anything because Sup Forums likes it too

Futurama is almost never mentioned on Reddit, certainly not anywhere near the level of Rick and Morty

Decent on its best day. None of the characters are likable, and not even that sort of 'love to hate' kind of way. They're just obnoixious.

Just make it a trap alien.

Then it's mysterious to me as to why I see memes from both Reddit and imgur along with references that are reposted on both sites back to back

Writing-wise the quality varies even within each episode.
But Roiland carries the show with his energetic voicework. Though I've also grown to like Parnell and Grammer's work too.

There's some stellar episodes and there are episodes that are "Simpsons seasons 8 to 15" quality. There hasn't been a completely bad episode yet.
The great ones are, predictably, the most creative ones. They take a common plot or sci-fi idea to an unexpected place.
In execution the first season's Rick Potion #9 is my favorite. And Total Rick-All in season 2.

The poor episodes are the ones that are too straightforward or cliché. Season 1's "Raising Gazorpazorp"... 's B plot is the weakest. The solution to the overused "Men vs Women" doesn't make up for a very dull collection of common places. Still loved the Morty Jr. stuff, though.
In season 2 the worst episode is... NOT Get Schwifty. It's Interdimensional Cable 2: Tempting Fate. Doing the improv thing again was a gamble, and they sure knew it by the title. But most of the skits aren't very good. And worst of all, the surrounding plot is one big long dick joke that falls flat, since I was getting pretty sick of "let's shit on Jerry".

Why would the alien be "a guy"?
Also that'd be too similar to Fart.

What a wrong statement

Goodbye Moonmen

Truth.

>And Total Rick-All in season 2.
Total Rick-All was comedy and sci-fi genius.

I feel like the only way to redeem Jerry's character at this point is makng him an average guy woefully outclassed by his unaverage life.

There were more shades of this in season one, but by season two it was pretty much gone. Tone down his patheticness a bit, make it so he has a legitimate point about Rick endangering the kids or using Beth (hell, I'd love to see an episode where Rick and Jerry are forced to team up for something).

And for fuck's sake, either decide on Jerry and Beth loving or hating each other already.

I like the NBA and /r/nba is absolutely terrible for this. Just as an example, people vilified James Harden in the 2015 season. To the point where Rockets fans would be downvoted for saying pretty much anything except that their star player sucked.

Cue the 2016 season and Harden manages to drag one of the worst trainwrecks of a team to the playoffs and everybody loves him now.

Agreed.

I was kinda iffy on Get Schwifty, but holy hell, was Interdimensional Cable 2 bad.

IC1 was carried by a strong B-plot, SUPER strong, and some genuinely funny skits.

IC2 is Roiland babbling baby words into a microphone for twenty minutes.

great show. one of the best in recent years.

tho circlejerk is pretty bad but the counter-jerk is worse

watch it

/thread.

Hello Royland, what are you playing?

She's from some anime I guess. I don't know the name but I have quite a few pics of the character if you catch my drift.

Occult Academy.

It's a really good show with a toxic fanbase. Take a couple hours and check it out.

It's a good show.

A hair below Futurama good.

But goddamn do Redditors overhype it.

Actual comment reply I've read to someone with a Rick avatar
>I would have thought someone who watches Rick and Morty wouls understand the value of the life we get and the striving for scientific progress to improve and extend it

You can feel the fedora slowly being placed on your head.

>I just hate how since 2011, Sup Forums is obsessed with the "reddit boogeyman" and if a redditor likes something, it's instantaneously cancerous.
More like since 2014

he got some badass moments, too few to be interesting or impactful

Better discussion then Sup Forums
Its the only sub i frequent along with the porn ones because reddit and shieet

Yeah, it became embarrassing to like it after it got big enough to be mentioned every other post on reddit.
Speaking as someone who never much cared for Futurama, I'd say I like it bettter than that show.

It's fun for what it is.
People seem to take it way too seriously, for example people symphatizing with Rick and whatever, I certainly never did, I just found him a funny burping retard.

The writing's very wonky too, some episodes are great while some are really bad.

What I like about Jerry is that he's not a complete punching bag like Meg.

We've seen it implied that if not for the kids
>First multiverse TV episode
>Jerry fighting off the Cronenbergs

And if the situation forces him to step up
>Fighting the marriage sims
>Fighting off the Cronenbergs
(applies here too)
>Stepping up to report Rick to the police
(Even though it may have been a shitty thing to do by some accounts)
>Talking back to his bosses in his simulated world

Or if he is pushed to the edge
>Implying he would blow his brains out over his wife and her potential lover if he found them

>Concocting and successfully instituting a crazy scheme for his wife to practice surgery for her to STFU

He can actually pull off some feats of strength, intelligence, and courage.

He's a lovable oaf in the most genuine sense of the term.

season 1 is great
season 2 is of varying quality
The floating heads episode was the shittiest thing ever, reddit incarnated (shallow plot, anti religion, lol american idol so bad, black prez, pop music is bad, lol we're being killed by religious fucks, the whole ice T joke, etc)

How is black president a criticism when the current president is literally black, you fucking idiot?

I meant to say random celeb appearance, not a racial thing, relax

I would say that the comparison to Futurama is fair, though, especially to new watchers
>some sci elements
>some sit com elements , A and B plotlines
>some raunch humor
>some feels
I just realized one could validly say the same thing for Tool.

That's not too hard though

Well, the trick really is not giving a fuck what other people care in an anonymous internet imageboard or anywhere else.
My taste > Your taste

>___ is a meme because I don't like it
Discredited.

>thinking Morty was gay for Fart
You guys has shit tastes.

>a trap
You too.

It should be a cute boy.

Well if you ever have been to reddit. You can figure out quite quickly as to why its loathed so.

I think it'd be nice if he just had someone crush on him throughout the series, occasionally getting caught up in their escapades resulting in hilariously awkward moments.

A boy of course.
