The situation is a little better outside of Europe, but reform is still desperately needed.
I'd just like to 1nterject for a moment. What you're referring to as Christianity, is in fact, Judeo/Christianity, or as I've recently taken to calling it, Judaism plus Christ. Christianity is not a religion unto itself, but rather another sacred component of a fully functioning Judaic system made useful by the Mosaic Law, the Prophets and the Writings comprising a full religion as defined by God.
Many worshippers follow a modified version of Judaism every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of Judaism which is widely used today is often called "Christianity", and many of its followers are not aware that it is basically Judaism, developed by Yahweh.
There really is a Christ, and these people are worshipping him, but he is just a part of the religion they follow. Christ is the redeemer: the person in the religion that allocates forgiveness under the Mosaic Law. The redeemer is an essential part of a religion, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete system of divine law. Christ is normally used in combination with Judaism: the whole system is basically Judaism with Christ added, or Judeo/Christianity. All the so-called "Christian" denominations are really denominations of Judeo/Christianity.
