I'll just leave this here
I'm White, therefore I can't be Christian.
Christ's message is for "all nations." He is a "light to illuminate the gentiles"
I am converting to Orthodoxy. Any advice OP?
choose the Greek flavor. best tones, best services, best food
I actually have been going to a Greek Orthodox Church. Only have been there three times so far but it has been a very good experience.
>implying orthodoxy is the true religion
Nice try Ivan, but your religion is in vain
welcome to the fold, brother. kyrie eleison
>ivan
my irl name is christopher. i was born (on july 4th, believe it or not) and lived my whole life in the united states. orthodoxy is the true faith. the roman church is a heresy that has stood far too long. get mad if you want, but you know it's true. just look at the history. they never had the authority to break away and start changing church doctrine
Thank you. Pray for me user. My worst sin is sloth.
done and done
God bless you Christopher.
I don't know what you were told, but Orthodox was the one who broke away
that isn't true. the five original holy seats of the faith were rome, constantinope, antioch, alexandria and jerusalem. though the bishop of rome was considered "first among equals," he did not have unilateral authority to change doctrine without ecumenical council. but in a very "emperor palpitine" style, that's exactly what he did and declared himself "pope" (whatever that is)
to say that "orthodox was the one who broke away" is to say that constantinople, antioch, jerusalem and alexandria ALL "broke away" from rome instead of the other way around
also, pretty much every time you hear about the "crimes of christianity" (crusades, inquisition, witch hunts, etc) it's always heretical "christians" that are doing it, not orthodox. there's a reason for this - they have broken away from the body of Christ
I can explain to you:
At the time of the Schism, the only patriarchs left were Rome and Constantinople. The others were butchered by muslims.
Since the patriarch of Rome was "first among equals", he simply say: - why should I have a council if my vote is more important than the one of Bizantium? I will take any decision by myself. -
He was an asshole, but a legit asshole.
Pope in latin is Pontex, the keeper of the keys of a bridge in Rome. An ancient honorary title for the (once pagan) priest who has the right to declare what days of the years had to be used for religious festivals.
>Orthodox is good
and hasn't sold out to the newest gay/muslim trend
>pope is scary boogieman villain
Yes, he declared himself the one seat,, or the pope after the others had become defunct
>driving out invaders from rightful land is bad
>muh cultural catholicism
i get it, i get it, you're italian. i am an irish-american and was raised catholic too. we can argue all day about whether the schism was legit or not, but here's what can't be argued. the orthodox church has maintained the apostolic faith as it was handed to us by Christ himself. rome has changed the faith time and again. by breaking away from the mother church, rome has mutated the faith so much that you had to declare your pope "infallible" to keep it going. your version of the creed says the Holy Spirit proceeds from Christ (Christ himself denied this and said He proceeds from the Father.) you've decided that Mary was born sinless, contradicting the scripture which tells us that Christ alone was born without sin. how much more will you change? how many more "flaws" in Christ's message of salvation will you "correct" to suit your own beliefs?
Orthodoxy = ERE.
If you follow it, you are roman.
Simple as that.
What about the WRE? Are they not roman? Or Catholic?
Just updated it
Unless you like wine soaked bread spooned into your mouth by creepy old dudes avoid eastern Orthodox
The Pope was declared infallible to end the endless schisms and anti-pope elections of the early middle-ages, not to hide inconsistencies in the faith. Atheist logic was not even an issue during the middle-age.
Orthodox are keeping the same faith of the emperor Constantin, the catholics had preferred to adapt and evolve the faith.
If you want to act like the original followers of Jesus, you must have women priests and communal lunches, and no specific buildings you use as Churches. Just read St.Paul.
here, FTFY. notice i didn't move the caption, because orthodoxy is the "One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church"
Ahahahaha
The only people who take Christianity seriously are niggers and spics.
Christianity is what made european civilization powerful. the reason we were able to build colonial empires is because had a moral code of behavior and strong communities bound together by shared values
as Christianity wanes in power, so too does european culture and civilization
