The Pulse Storytime (Part 1)

Welcome back Anons. Yesterday, we took a break from Jessica Jones to read about the adventures of Iron Fist and one of the various preteen girls that never get mentioned after the story is over. Today, we see what Jessica got into after finally leaving the MAX line.

Plus side? No Gaydos, so let's see if there's any repeated panels by someone else.

Is it odd that, given that it's Hell's Kitchen, I assume "Yakuza" to be the nice way of saying "fucking ninjas"?

Wow, three panels and not a single line of dialogue.

This is the series with the not-Lois Lane who ends up getting killed, right?

Bagley saved Bendis' ass time after time during their USM run. He straight out avoided his guidelines and wen't by his own pace. Same thing with Capullo and Snyder on Batman.

Whoops, spoke too soon!

I think that happens next issue? At least it's this arc. It's not exactly a selling point of the series.

That explains so much about why USM is my favorite Bendis series.

On the other side, it must've been so weird to see nonGaydos Jessica as the new standard for the first time for readers back then. And Bagley is so completely different from him that it's even weirder.

Yeah, I know, it's just that it's literally all I know this series from.

There's three major artists for the series, I believe. At the end, we can compare which artist was better.

I think this is the closest we get to Bendis remembering continuity. Two arcs later, and he remembers that Jessica saved JJ's sort of daughter from being used as a drug farm.

I checked, it's THIS arc.

This is the kind of stuff I'd expect from Ultimate JJ, and I mean that in a good way.

...

Does repeating "all day" as a question count as Bendis-speak? Given the next sentence, it seems more like he's genuinely surprised that the guy just LEFT a damn body in the lake for an hour.

>"You're not mad at me for not giving up Daredevil's secret identity even though I knew?"
>"I will resent you for it until the day you die."

Only in comics can someone casually go "fly-by".

No, no. Apparently Not-Lois is already dead.

There's really no reason for Spidey to be on the covers on all these books besides trying to sneak in sales.

Nah, it's a genuine reaction.

So yeah, I actually didn't make the Lois Lane connection until that user mentioned it.

Because Bendis had enough self awareness to know that massive amounts of text blocking the pages were a problem at the time, he moved it all to the side.
Rather than use LESS text.

how is she lois lane? i dont see it

As opposed to know, where he's gotten enough people telling him he's a good writer that he'll do it anyway.

...

... Lady, you KNOW you work for JJ, right? The man who has basically made a living shitting on superheroes?

Terri (Hatcher)
(Margot) Kidder

At the end of this issue, it seems like someone who doesn't like Lois, decided to shit on the character, while not actually knowing anything about her.

i can´t believe the same immonen who drew ultimate spiderman also drew that boring ass x men run, i dunno if it was because bendis started to make his scripts differently but everything he´s done since has been a slog to read narratively speaking, just compare the first issues of ultimate peter to the first issues of miles, it got so fucking boring

Yeah, and that too.
Lois And Clark and the Reeve movies.

I remember around this time Jessica Jones just showed up in all sorts of comics, like that time she popped in on the Young Avengers while she was almost due and gave them a pep talk.

THAT was a weird cameo, since that was the only relatively major appearance she had that wasn't by Bendis.

ultimate J.J has one of the best character arcs in all of ultimate spiderman

... Is Vulture not one of the more well-known Spidey villains? I mean, he's been around for a while. It's not like he's the Kangaroo or something.

Oh, neat.

shit, i forgot this is 616, i was gonna say that it was because the ultimate vulture was introduced later, maybe bendis mixed them up, i´m pretty sure everybody knows 616 vulture

>"someone who we believe to be the felon known as the Vulture"

He's an old man in a green bird costume who's flying. How many other people fit that description in the Marvel Universe?

>My man!

Spidey, please move your right knee before making Viagra jokes.

I don't know this perfectly, but at this time, I'm pretty sure Osborn is still publicly believed to be a good guy. I haven't read much pre-JMS Spidey (once they get the constant mixing spin-off books it becomes a nightmare to keep up with), but I think Osborn being a gibbering madman doesn't become common knowledge yet.

Its Bendis user. This is the guy who made it look like Captain Britain was some upcoming amateur superhero not worth contacting when the badoons invaded London in his GoTG issue.

This is the guy who has completely shat on speedball in all his comics written by him, even tho Speedball basically started the same way spidey did and was part of a very competent team.

EVERYONE shits on Speedball though, and I don't get why. Fucking Quesada was shitting on him, remember? That's why he okay'd Penance.

I admit, I don't know much about office politics, but why would an NDO keep you from mentioning unrelated people to you vanishing? It's not like YOUR the one making them vanish, they already work for Osborn.

... Oh no, she's talking to Stormin' Norman personally.

Good news, she wasn't, just his receptionist. Bad news? Now she has a face-to-face meeting.

Well not everyone dude, tons of marvel writers have tried to revive the new warriors with speedball included. I think Slott (back when he was good), Yost, Ewing and Gage probably love the new warriors. In my experience only Millar or Bendis shat on him a lot and those were the biggest mainstream writers of Marvel.

I never liked the warriors or speedball but even for me their treatment of those guys was down right atrocious.

Wow, I would not have guessed that BENDIS would know about the time Osborn tried to take over the Bugle.

Yeah, I could see some versions of Lois trying this.

All right Anons, I want you to look at the first panel in the last page, and then the 7th panel of THIS page. See if you see anything odd.

And I just realized Osborn doesn't have his cornrows.

Bendis is a continuity whore when it suits him user. He genuinely doesn't care if he contradicts old stuff in the name of the story HE is wanting to tell. He is insufferable twat like that.

A lot of his early haters hated him because he was so smug about it. Now its cool to hate him but for entirely different reasons.

I mean this is the guy who kept tons of notes of how marvel universe would be fundamentally altered if Hank Pym was removed from the equation. Of course those notes became worthless because he didn't do jack shit in age of ultron but whatever, Bendis does what he pleases.

Okay Anons, can you see what I was referring to? Right here you can see what I was referring to as well.

oh he got goblin eyes

Bendis has issues.

user, there's people who can point out that examples of Bendis forgetting HIS OWN continuity.

Well YES, but I was referring to where his eyes briefly go Green.

...

I like to think JJ genuinely feels bad for the last thing he said to her basically being chewing her out for something HE didn't like.

But thats the thing, he contradicts them because he wants to tell the story HIS way. Which includes contradicting his own shit multiple times.

I swear there was an interview where someone called him out on it and Bendis just answered the point is he is writing comics as entertainment. If you were entertained then does it matter?

Yeah, I'm not a fan of how Bagley draws Luke.

yea that's what i meant

Remember, they've BOTH had issues with JJ.

And then Bendis spent the better part of a decade TRYING to make him famous anyway.

...

And now you know the source of the most famous panels in The Pulse.

And unlike his X-Men, there's literally NO reason for Luke to refer to Danny by his full name.

I need to read more stuff with the cops are the main characters, because I've seen way too much stuff where the cops are just over-aggressive assholes.

...

How would you be able to tell it's a guy if there's no DNA? Just size? It can't be strength, since you live in a setting where plenty of women have super strength.

Gotham Central?

I forget, when did Tony reveal his secret identity the second time? I know he did it before, but then he forced the entire world to forget it, and we're still supposed to think he's the good guy.

>"You fly?"
>"Badly."

Given the flashbacks we got in Alias, I can only assume she's just out of practice. We have no idea how strong she could be if she actually, you know, worked out.

So what's Stiltman been up to, lately? I haven't seen him since Waid's Daredevil.

I mean at least before Civil War.

I'll probably read that once I can afford the Omni.

I thought he just made Iron Man and Tony appear together at the same time or something to ward of suspicion.

The entire world to forget thing is a recent thing started by Peter and continued by Daredevil I guess.

Also he revealed his identity to the president in Civil War. It was part of the package deal for the registration act.

He used to just tell people that Iron Man was his bodyguard. At one point, he publically revealed who he was, but then he did a OMD on his own.

When I mentioned that Osborn's identity as the Goblin wasn't common knowledge? Urich knows. Wrote a book on it once, but Osborn sued him for it.

...

Welp, at least there's THAT mystery.

This was in the middle of JMS's run, so Peter didn't work for JJ at the time, and hasn't for a long time.

>The identity of Iron Man was publicly revealed when Tony donned his suit to save a dog from being run over. This was then later covered up by Stark claiming to have given up the suit with someone else now inside. He then proceeded to re-reveal his identity as part of his support towards the Superhuman Registration Act.

Not a mindwipe like OMD but close enough I'd say.

...

>it seems like someone who doesn't like Lois, decided to shit on the character, while not actually knowing anything about her

That's my Bendis!

...

All I can find to bring up what I'm referring to is something Mentallo was using.

And now we see what early Bendis has in mind about their kid.

Yeah, she ended up quite a bit darker than that in the end.

>mfw Jessica and Danielle have the exact same face

>"WHAT'S MY NAME?!"

In a few months, we'll see a much more awesome version of this scene.

Given that Luke even notices he's not in the dream, it's entirely possible that Danielle is just supposed to be "little Jessica" in her dream.

Or Bagley just has a sameface problem. Take your pick.

...

When he says that Peter told Ben he knows who Daredevil is, he's referencing something from Bendis's Daredevil. When JJ chewed everyone out for not getting the story of who Daredevil is, Ben tried to defend Matt by saying that the story's wrong and Matt ISN'T Daredevil, because he knows who Daredevil is, and it isn't Murdock, Peter just HAPPENS to be nearby, and says the same thing.

>"He ruined my professional life!"
>"You want to play the game of who's life Osborn has fucked up? Let's start with the girlfriend he threw off a bridge in front of me, and don't even get started on the fucking clones!"

And now Ben asks the obvious question.

>"Week after I found out about Matt, his crazy ex-girlfriend stabbed me through the heart."

If you haven't read Miller's Daredevil, you deserve to.

Have you ever gone a few days without talking to a friend, and realized that you genuinely wouldn't know if they died?

...
