Love that movie. Watched it when I was about 8 in the early 90's with my dad. Comfy.
Great movie, that "Strong as I am" sequence
Mine: Maniac. Haven't seen the new one
One of the best horrors I have ever seen. Just don't watch any trailers or read any synopsis
I don't want to spoiler it, but pure Aussie kino.
watched it recently. bretty gud but PetersanĀ“s performance was pretty b-grade, all thing considered
i'm not sure the trailers/synopsis would help.
great choice, though
Ferrara at his peak. Top 10 American movie of the 90s.
The understated Cox performance is brilliant, too bad it will never be as remembered as the Hopkins one.
After Silence of the Lambs, he was effectively just playing a parody of his earlier performance.
Just to mention something else about Manhunter. I'm SO glad they made Red Dragon. It shows exactly how the story shouldn't have been done. I enjoyed Cox's performance as well.
Kinda, but some of the fan trailers (which are some of the most popular eng sub trailers on YT) essentially give away important plot points

Tom Noonan played the best Dolarhyde, inspite of his Character not being as "fleshed out," as the actors that followed him. He was just so convincing as the outsider wanting to transform.
Hannibal was on the TV one night last winter so I watched it. It's a comical piece of shit. Better than the utter blandness that was Red Dragon, but a piece of shit nonetheless.
What was so good about it? The cinematography was crap, and it was full of TV actors. It's the hipster's choice to counter the fact that Silence of the Lambs was a perfect film.
Saw this with a friend like half a year ago, it was great
Cool thread, going top watch some of these.
This is a great documentary. Don't see it mentioned.
Goes in the "comfy" genre as well.
Cure has a seriously great atmosphere.
Pulse begins strong but the ending is... not so good.
Pulse was pretty disappointing. I liked the first 3/4ths but the ending just went off the rails all wacky-like. Shame really.
>A Penn & Teller Film
I know where this belongs
It's on my watch list

I watched those movies after the TV show Hannibal piqued my curiosity in the lore, I wish I watched it backwards. Seeing the all-star casting of Red Dragon and comparing it with the average critical response of Manhunter had got me watching it by order of release date hoping to save the better one for last. But I suppose I can still take advantage of the negative image Red Dragon provided by rewatching Manhunter sometime soon.
Manhinter (and Mann in general) is a an absolute plebfilter though. It will always be underappreciated because plebs gonna pleb.

>that opening sequence where he enters the crime scene
Fucking love this film and I'm very glad to see its cult following growing more and more as time goes by. It is just as great as the original when it comes to setting up and maintaining an extremely unpleasant atmosphere from beginning to end.
I just wish Blatty was allowed to see the Legion concept through from beginning to end instead of the thing becoming The Exorcist III along the way.
Makes me really notice/appreciate the camera movements.
Goes by just a little to fast to be able to appreciate a lot of the cinematography though.

I saw that on Hulu and thought about giving it a watch. Didn't know that it was from the same director who did Driller Killer, so now I have to check it out.
These films most have been hugely important to establishing anime as a respectable medium back in the 90's. I haven't seen either yet but I would imagine they'd be great.
affliction.
