True, we keep them separate. But we have a much stronger legal claim to Puerto Rico (as they are an incorporated territory) than the EU holds to it's member states.

We have a legitimate claim to Puerto Rico's team AND their medals, because they are Americans. But we don't, because we don't need to. The US BTFO the rest of the world even without relying on their colonies
