The best Venom story ever written is getting collected for the first time in trade paperback

>The best Venom story ever written is getting collected for the first time in trade paperback
>It's saddled with the HORRIBLE stories as a means to bump the price up

Fuck. The Exile Returns is legitimately great, but who in their right mind would want to read Separation Anxiety, Venom: The Mace and Venom: Knights of Vengeance? They were all the worst kind of 90's X-TREEME

Does it have the story where he cuts his stomach open with the symbiote to grab a bomb that was implanted there?

cuz that was awesome

Is that the one where he teams up with Ghost Walrus? I always wanted to read that as a kid.

I legit forgot that other Ghost Rider was a thing

Because most Venomfags love that shit.
I've had arguments on Sup Forums about The Mace's quality before, Venom fanboys actually like it.

Shame this book isn't going to have Venom v Hulk, that shit was hilarious.

because the exile returns is too short to get collected alone

>Shame this book isn't going to have Venom v Hulk, that shit was hilarious.

I think that was reprinted in the Enemy Within collection a few years ago.

True, but they could have chosen something a little better to bundle it with. They did the same with a Carnage collection last year where they reprinted Web of Carnage, Mindbomb and It's a Wonderful Life but bundled it with shit like Carnage Unleashed and that time he took over the Silver Surfer.

Luckily for that book, Carnage has a better reading list than Venom, so there wasn't as much shit. Venom needed his run with Flash before his books were decent, Carnage got much better treatment despite being a villain no one liked.

yeah, like what else could they include? larsen´s or mcfarlane´s return of venom?, i think those are already collected and i can´t think of any of his minis that were actually good, he was being overused in a really bad way during the clone saga era

What's the point when Venom doesn't even remember any of this anymore. Marvel is trash.

You market it as a Ben Reilly collection and fill it with old Web of Spider-Man stories

People like fun reads and are not full blown autistic to where they let the sins of today ruin the past.

They enjoy the comic without needing some over arching justification for it.

I'm rather shock that isn't how it's being handled, the whole point of that arc was Ben making his mark as a Spider warrior again. It's weird to sell it as a Venom trade because it's just a story about Venom getting jobbed.

That's the best thing they ever did.
Eddie Venom was a trash read issue to issue, cover to cover.

>it was all trash

Posts one of the better series.

Seriously are their any stories with Eddie as Venom that didn't get so edgy?
I remember one in the 90's where his gf was trying to teach him that killing threats out right is a horrible approach to most situations and in the end he claimed he understood it was bad and exiled 4 hobos who snitched or something. No wait! He was lying to everyone and just kills the hobos and eats them when no one was looking, I mean shit man between that story and the yours I just tuned out the character. I wanted to like him but all his stories boiled down to edgy extremes and porn level parodies of plots.

Venom was entirely wasted as a character due to the 90s. Nobody capitalized on McFarlane's original premise. Venom was a horror villain.

You had a spider-man that was stronger, faster, undetectable, able to morph into anyone he wanted and he knew ALL of Pete's secrets. Venom was never meant to be the big crossover villain of anything, he was never meant to be anything more than Pete's worst nightmare, a homegrown threat he created that haunted him from every shadow. The whole stalker aspect was cut after only three scenes and he just became some generic villain with no goal or anything.

I'd kill to see an graphic novel one shot that focused more on the horror potential of Venom.

Sounds like Venom: Mace some of the underground were extorting resources from squatters topside they hired a Merc to kill said underground hustlers, Venom gets involved wants to kill them all, Becky tries to talk Eddie out of it two issues latter the extortioners are tried and exiled from the underground, Venom cases them down and eats them, two years later (about 6 months comic time) Eddie freaks out when the Suit eats a person. By this time he has killed thousands and has at least eaten 9 people by this point, but eating a brain was somehow the tipping point. Oh and 6 issues after that series he was back eating people...

Fuck people bitch about Marvel now but it seems like they haven't had any stable continuity for almost 30 years.

He looked a lot better without that stupid tongue, too.

>Venom was entirely wasted as a character due to the 90s.

Probably because they gave him non-stop minis and one-shots instead of an ongoing, so we got a revolving door of writers (most of whom merely used him to shill whatever other characters they were writing like Mace, Ghost Rider, the Punisher, Morbius, etc.) who would ignore everything a previous writer did while introducing a ton of their own things which a subsequent writer would ignore while introducing a ton of their own things and on it went.

It wasn't until Larry Hama (whose stories were "so bad it's good" at best) came aboard and stayed aboard that we got some semblance of consistency.

>When we finally reached Final Boss Venom

Am I supposed to be entertained?

Was Daredevil a fluke? Because it really seems like the bulk of Nocenti's bibliography is mediocre to shit.

her few spidey stories were good too

Erik Larsen just really disliked the character so he went crazy with the design and made the long tongue and shit.

Larsen's a fucking cunt manchild in general.

Daredevil was good and the Mad Dog Ward comics in Spider-Man were decent.

wasn´t this the premise of venom dark origin? i haven´t read it tho

Longshot was god-tier.

Yeah, but that also removed all of Eddie's remotely sympathetic traits in favor of turning him into an almost completely sociopathic douchebag.

It was also really half-assed. Eddie's wife (who he at one point offers to muggers who had attacked them while she was knocked out) was for some reason black now instead of white, and everything about his father besides his personality was different.
