It annoys me that both light brown and dark brown bread are called 'brown bread'.

yeah it's called fucking rye bread we have it here too I'm a baker but it's consistantly our worst seller. Some people go crazy over it, recently though people have bought more of it because it's hip and you seem like some food badass if you get rye over wheat. I mean it's good here and there but I don't eat it constantly. Some dishes it pairs well with, specifically red meats but it's still gay and a bit of a niche imo

No, the most adventurous the average person gets is with sourdough. Darker breads are extremely uncommon, although I don't think it's necessarily because of some kind of obsession with sugar. They simply aren't part of our culture.

They're not extremely uncommon at all. Walk into Brumbys and there's always a whole lot of them sitting there and you often see people buying them. Supermarkets always have loaves too. Obviously they aren't everyone's first choice but plenty of people have them from time to time.

I eat this every day. Never liked toasts, just too sweet. Bread isn't supposed to be sweet

I'm not saying that they're uncommon in stores or that people never eat them, I'm just saying that it's uncommon for the average person to consume them as a staple food in the same way that they might treat sliced bread or milk. Personally I've never been into someone's home and seen black bread. I'm sure lots of people have them from time to time, but judging by the way people are acting ITT it seems to be more of a regular purchase in Europe.
