You say "race is a completely arbitrary thing to judge someone on". Which is one statement. But then, you say "just seeing skin color tells you absolutely nothing about the person". What you're suggesting here is that race is the same thing as skin color, which it's not.
But you're not right anyway. Let's say I'm a teacher or caretaker, who has to take care of a group of children. There's a very major problem we're dealing with currently. Obesity. If I have some young people and wonder whether they're overweight or not, I can look at BMI.
If I would believe you, that race is meaningless, I could decide to have onestandard to measure BMI by. A normal BMI is generally seen as 18.5 - 25. For different races however, a different BMI is normal.
What if I have a group of Asian children? Overweight for them is believed to begin at a BMI of around 23, because of a different built. They see health problems at a lower BMI than white children. In other words, if I pretend to be "color blind" the children would suffer health problems, because I assume they have a healthy weight when they're really overweight.
What about black children? Black people can actually weigh more than white people, without developing health problems. Whereas for white men and women a BMI above 30 leads to heart disease and diabetes, for black men and women, a BMI above 33 leads to heart disease and diabetes.
So, even just telling whether someone is overweight or not, requires me to pay attention to their race. I can decide that race is a completely arbitrary thing to judge my children's weight by. This means that I'm actively harming them. Get this, ignoring race, actually kills people.

So how about another topic. Children need to receive sexual education, but you don't want to do this before it's genuinely necessary. So at what age do we do this? Black girls enter puberty about a year earlier than white girls. At age 7, 25% of black girls have breast development, 15% of Hispanic girls, 10% of white girls and just 2% of Asian girls. Clearly, if I give a group of black and Asian girls sex education at the same age, we're doing one of two groups a disservice.

So let's look at another problem. Let's say I am I doctor in a city where we have a black neighborhood and a white neighborhood. Toxic waste has been dumped in the black neighborhood and I notice that the black children are born premature more often than the white children. On average, the black children are born a week earlier than the white children! Clearly this must be an atrocity. Unless I check the literature of course, where I find that it's normal that black children are born a week earlier on average.

So, now as a doctor, I notice that we have a cancer screening program, where we screen men for testicle cancer. However, I find that only white men are invited! This is an atrocity!
