I still think the overall reason for the decline in quality over the last few years is the opening of other /lbg/-related channels for discussion, fragmenting where film discussion takes place and meaning there is less of it in the thread
Additionally I think it's fair to say that every single person that watched remotely interesting films and was willing and was able to talk about them have left letterboxd or /lbg/ pretty much completely
And more immediately the threads have become a big time target for shitposting lately from a few individuals who presumably have pretty severe brain defects and that's off-putting for even bad film people to post or come here now

There's good 35mm stuff happening basically every day. The capital celluloid blog is really good for showing the best film in London each day, most are projected from film.
BFI southbank is good for art house stuff (and do cheap £3 tickets if you are under 25), prince charles does mostly fedora guy stuff but loads. Barbican + close up film centre + ica + regents street + genesis cinema are all worth checking too.
I think the good bad movie club this was the first thing they'd done in a while
