Why American English is more common than the British English on Sup Forums? I mean, the majority of the people who post shit here aren't Americans, so what's the problem for the people whose native language isn't English to use literarty and proper version of it instead of some colonists' dialect?

Americans aren't as evil as the eternal anglo

Why do foreigners constantly ham up the close to non-existent differences between them? It's like a few spelling changes and prounciation differences that you can't hear because you're writing anyway.

Very doubtable question

Idk, but in Russia we are taught in schools to use only BE, so I always get triggered when somobody wtites, for example, "color" instead of "colour", though I do admit that this is stupid

It's easier to practice american english because of all the entertainment created in it

>Filthy Americans butchering spelling
>Filthy British butchering pronunciation
CANADIAN ENGLISH MASTER RACE

that's not how English works ruskie

I don't particularly care about the English language differences, i learnt Anglo through exposure and still can't tell them apart except for the o-ou shit.

Well, I've got the impression that people learning English tend to learn British spelling in school but end up exposed to far, far more American sources in the real world.
But in my experience, you tend to have a random grab-bag of habits. So most people seem to go in for words like mom, chips or stove, but not often words like crib or fall. And few will say things like "gotten" (ugh).
Some of the American rules seem logical enough to me, although I still think they're an entirely pointless change (like -o/-ou or -ise/-ize). But it's still just the same language really.

Ok, but still, what is the point of simplyfying the thing that is already simple?

I would assume there are more international English teachers that are American rather than British. Also this

me an da bois gonna go ou' back an play sum hakey alri' eh?

You sound like yanks mate

Because we learn American English. If we spell "centre" at exam we would get ×.

>foreigners
British themselves ham it up pretty hard themselves. Just look at your own state broadcaster bemoaning the Americanization of British English.
bbc.com/culture/story/20170904-how-americanisms-are-killing-the-english-language

Fair point. But it's in our nature to be a bit melodramatic and moan on about things.

Oh really?

Kill yourselves you fucking niggers

Sorry user, I'm whiter than you.

>'Oh mah gahd how can you not tell I'm Canadian dude? I don't sound anything like Americans man!'

>the majority of the people who post shit here aren't Americans
But they are? Don't let Sup Forums confuse you: the majority of people on this site are Yanks.

Disregarding that, the majority of people on the internet are Yanks and the majority of people learn English nowadays thanks to America.

Australian english is the best

Shut up discount Aussie

This

Let's hope BE wouldn't die out

>green eyes
>white

This.
I don't even recognize the differences typically unless I consciously look for them.
I just read over the spelling differences.

small brain- american english
normal brain- british english
big brain- scottish english
galactic brain with lights coming out of it- australian english

It will do mate unless something happens and the planet stops getting bombarded by American media.

It's happening already, it's fucking depressing. I like America and Americans but despise Americanisation.

HAHHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHhhHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHH

It won't, I don't know what the other user's on about. If you try speaking American over here people laugh at you.

>go into a pub
>they're doing nachos, burritos, Montana Louisana pulled brisket burgers served with chunky fries and chipotle sauce
>fish and chips is served with fries
>people in the pub are talking about the latest American drama on Netflix
>bloke calls his mate 'dude'

It won't if Brits will go on increasing the masses of the entertaining production that is made in Britain

*sharts*

I’m suprised this is even considered english

>It can't die out, because no such thing as standartized BE.
>standartized BE

GET OUT REEEEEEEEEEEEEE

>masses of the entertaining production
I suppose living here I wouldn't really know how much of our TV gets to other countries but it can't be that much surely.

Interestingly a lot of big films are moving here instead of going to Hollywood, I think it's cheaper, but they're still American films.

What is the analog of "dude" in BE?

>FAKIN DROPBEARS MATE, WATCH FER FAKIN CUNTIN DROPBEARS. Fakin VB cunt. It's straya day fakin we don't work on straya day. Or any other day but we call ourselves tradies. Cunt

I know that's you Bruce. A*stralian vernacular isn't even English.

It's regional but as a whole 'mate'

Don't get me wrong, the Americanisation of our language is a bit of a problem. But to read that article you'd think the sky is falling. And you have to realise that even within Britain, there's a great diversity of dialects that are being sort of slowly eroded and eaten away at themselves. It's a very English quality to complain about this sort of thing.
Though, it's a thorny subject now that I think about it. The differences between American and British English are so minor that even calling them separate dialects seems excessive. I think the reaction people have to those differences is more of a cultural one. It's what it represents more than the differences themselves. An encroachment of foreign cultural values.

Wot
You've never wobbled your head?
Silly sausage

Where do you live? London? London's a shithole. Who were the people? Students? Students are retards, they'll grow out of it and cringe looking back in a few years. I have never seen a pub filled with that sort of person though. Nothing wrong with people eating American food, British food is dire. There's a reason the only things Britain eats are Indian and Italian. The only people who I've heard say "dude" are mongs. Netflix isn't really an issue, they have British stuff on their too you know. Besides, American media has always been popular here. As for the obesity, I'm going to chalk that up to the fact most people don't get enough exercise nowadays. I have literally never heard of a pub being this shit. I think you just got unlucky.

Anyone who says dude is quickly dismissed as idiot

Bucks, so it's going to be worse for me as we're near L*ndon, you makes valid points but I have definitely noticed a rise in Americanisation mostly in the youth.

Where do you live m8

>mfw I hear some bong or australian say "lad" or "mate"
>mfw I hear some American say "dude" or "bro"
You all disgust me

There is a plenty of British films in Russia, but after your reply I'm not really sure if they are truly British. Anyway, there is still Doctor Who, but the last few seasons are simply disgusting

This.

Prescriptivists should kill themselves.

OI leaf cunt
Your mum's fanny flaps could be used as a blanket m8

What does a leaf say???

Master

Bud. Some people say "man" but I think that's American?

In opinion, the thing is that BE doesn't change very much (except of the slow americanisation, of course), while the AE is getting simplier and simplier, and it would be really painful to see BE slowly degrading under American influence

Well "mate" means like "пpиятeль" in Russian. That means some positive relationship with that guy, right?. I always thought "dude" (чeл, чyвaк) was a casual way to say "man" (чeлoвeк) irrelevant to speaker's relationship.

>bud
lol
Do girls say pettle?

>Well "mate" means like "пpиятeль" in Russian. That means some positive relationship with that guy, right?
yep

idk mate

Why was English so simplified? I can understand why AE was. Because there was a lot of people who didn't speak English originally and in order to rule those slaves they taught them the simplified version (as is understand this). So what happened to mononational island UK?

It's normally quite positive, but English is a funny beast. It can depend on the context.

Fuk sake
I meant petal

>It's regional but as a whole 'mate'
Just looked up the origin of dude. Apparently it was what they used to call dandies and may have originally been doodle.

Hy тaм кeльты вcякиe и пpoчиe дpyзья c их yпpoщёнными гoвopaми пoнaбeжaли в Aнглию, и в итoгoгe мнoгoe из их диaлeктoв пpижилocь, тe жe "lad" и "lassie", нacкoлькo я пoмню, имeют шoтлaндcкoe пpoиcхoждeниe. If you mean why is English so analytic and lacking in inflection, there's a few theories about this. I think the most plausible one is that Old English as spoken was a sort of trade language, made from the various tribes of the island, particularly through contact with the Norse. So you would see written Old English which resembles Russian in its immense grammatical complexity and case system, but it was probably a prestige dialect and gradually lost those features for ease of use in trade. Then you had the huge glut of Latinate words in the Middle English period, that couldn't be declensed by Old English rules that were long forgotten. By that point English had become near totally analytic, and seemingly quite simple to learn from the outside.

I don’t know who is the aus fag anymore

This

All three languages sound the same to me.
Except Scottish English, fuck that.

Hollywood

Fair as fuck

because nobody learn english for "english culture"

*learns. Self-proving in a nutshell

>the majority of the people who post shit here aren't Americans

American English is more neutral and simplified

*on Sup Forums

watch

We are taught BrE in Norway too, but once everyone goes on the internet, spelling confusion sets in and eventually they begin using AmE.

the commonwealth will save the motherland's english it is your DUTY

It won't. The two will just fuse in weird, unpredictable ways due to closer integration in the Anglosphere. Americanization in BE is well-documented but Americans have also picked up some British habits from BBC dramas and shit.

Even worse hearing an American saying "mate". Hard cringe when that happens

True story mate

BE/AE situation reminds me of Belorussian language's fate

We should just all talk like aussies
