UK needs new tax to save NHS and social care from collapse, says top Tory

A dramatic call for a new health and care tax has been made by a former Tory health minister, amid demands by MPs of all parties for Theresa May to act to save the NHS and the social care system from collapse.

Dr Dan Poulter, who stepped down from the Department of Health last year and now works both as an MP and as a part-time NHS doctor, said his experience inside hospitals had convinced him that radical, long-term funding solutions for the health and care sectors are “urgently required”.

Analysis The NHS secret is out. And local communities won't like it
The government must now prepare for serious scrutiny and major political battles. They could be the least of its problems

He told the Observer: “On the hospital wards I often see people who are medically fit to go home, but who are forced to stay in hospital because of difficulties arranging their social care package or because of a lack of appropriate housing. Good healthcare cannot be delivered without properly funded social care.

“A long-term plan to ensure a properly funded and sustainable health and social care system is urgently required, and I believe a health and care tax – perhaps introduced through raising national insurance – offers one of the simplest ways forward.”

Poulter spoke out amid growing frustration about a lack of clarity in the government’s approach to social care and how to fund it, as the number of elderly people soars and pressures on hospital services mount. In the Tory manifesto last year, former prime minister David Cameron promised to introduce a cap of £72,000 on the care costs for each individual, after which the state would pay. But soon after polling day, he delayed the scheme’s introduction until 2020, because money was not available.

Has anyone played Prime Minister Infinity?

Why the fuck do Labour even want this? Music and Art are specialised degrees that have a low demand for labour. The fact that there are few job opportunities deters students from spending money to study in these areas. If more people studied shit like art and music, the cost of labour in those industries would plummet, and there would be tonnes of young people sitting on their asses doing fuck all and being a dead weight on the economy.

We should help students who want to study things like Maths, Engineering, Science, and Medicine, as we have a shortage of people in these positions, but we should punish workers who want degrees in gender studies and shit. The few jobs in those "industries" can be filled by immigrants anyway.

Is Brexit possible in the game?

If not then Remain propaganda

Good shitpost

Any Manc Lads on this fine evening?

Low demand? Industries? Jobs? Money?

Clearly you're not on the Corbyn bandwagon m8, all these things will be abolished on electing the Dear Leader.

He's probably got the wrong Newcastle mate.

Is it morally permissible to kill an annoying daddy long legs?

I admire the effort that went into this shitpost.

But please fuck off, we are; after all; completely full.

Lets put aside the rhetoric, freddos will be 10p again if Ed Becomes PM

the only reason shit like gender studies exists at unis is because they have to make money by filling up with as many students as possible i.e. if there's a demand for that subject, they WILL offer that subject, regardless of whether the degree is worth anything.

If uni was free there would be less of an incentive to do this so you'd see fewer people taking gender studies and taking traditional humanities like history or English.

I've played that
was thinking a game more along the lines of democracy, but better

BUTTHURT CORBYNITES CALL FOR BRANSON TO BE STRIPPED OF HIS KNIGHTHOOD

>you have to pay for it

Most people make this mistake, I know.

Newcastle upon-Tyne is NOT Newcastle under-Lyme. There are literally hundreds of places named Newcastle because it's what the ruling class liked to name their toys.

Newcastle under-Lyme, I admit, has gone to the dogs after the Muslims moved in to Hanley. But you will never find comfier flea markets or better floral gardens than Newcastle under-Lyme.

Nightlife a shit too. We just go to one of our many pubs if we want a night out.

What are you on about? If uni was free there would be more people doing stupid degrees because it's FREE.

Since the tuition increase there has been a drop in people doing dumb degrees because it's a waste of money.

Your logic is flawed, dumb git.

What are we gonna do about these White Trash Chavs, lads?

How many people took gender studies courses when university was free?

How many people take gender studies courses now with tuition fees going over £9K per year?

limit time on welfare to 2 years
then if they don't find a way to support themselves in this time, they can live on the street for 2 years, if they haven't starved or died in some way after this time, they get shipped to the isle of man where they have to spend the rest of their days, unless they swim to England, in which case they can join the army.

It's understandable considering not many people will be likely to buy it.

Sadly I am not aware of any others.

It only does elections, not government terms as far as I know.

Jez rekt

Students these days are too dim to take tuition fees into account.

I almost fell for the trap. A lifetime debt is not worth 4 years of non-employment for a worthless Hello.

It's also a lot easier to get into Uni now compared to when it was free.

You can literally sleep through a Gender Studies A-Level and come out with three A*s, just for your contribution to the destruction of the Patriarchy.

Was thinking of converting my house into a social care home. Three bedrooms, need to put in fire escapes, ramps and whatnot (cost a few thousand) and then pay a nurse to pop by and look after the renters (usually the mentally challenged or people who can't look after themselves anymore, dementia mainly).

Pays a lot more than renting and the NHS i crying out for social care spending. If i had the cash i would buy up a building and convert it into a small care home estate ward and have a 70's themed shop staffed by nurses with a bus stop, like they do in Japan.

Looking after the elderly is where the long term money is.

nice numbers

As far as I know, there are no A-Levels specifically for Gender Studies; but the equivalents are basically a rose by another name at this point.

Psychology, Modern History, English Language. All these are gateways to Social Justice degeneracy in University.

The only people who I knew take those at A-Level at my college were either fat, lesbian, tranny or all three...

If you spent the 4 years studying it and failed to progress any further than someone who chose a STEM field, then it is a lifetime of debt.

I studied Engineering, Classical History and Business at college; I didn't go into university to read expensive books and get blamed for rape - I got into employment and started earning my way.

Fuck, psychology?

I wish I had made more sensible decisions at A-level and degree choice
The more people talk about it, the more I shit myself

Although I know for a fact I can earn a decent amount teaching full time on my instrument - as I've done so in the past through private lessons, I wish I had a cool degree with actual job prospects.
I could have taught without a degree and earned just as much.

Model railways and napolionics demonstrate patrician taste.

Holy shit my ID

It took one year to pay it off. I was working and saving throughout.

But you did what was right for you good for you.

>Psychology
It's ok in theory, a lot of the people who take it are degenerate but psychology is pretty cool tbdesu/

>Modern History
I've never understood this. Why not take just History, considering it's a more valuable degree that's going to be mainly modern History anyway? The people who seem to take it are those who see studying Classical History as too white or autists who like tanks.

>English Language
I don't even know where to start, A level English Language seemed to be hours of looking at adverts and road signs.

Portillo for PM

From my experience psychology isn't to bad, it depends on the teacher.

OMG this fat faggot on this show. Taking selfies in bed all day. Thinking he's so fucking entitled. Gets money from benefits for doing absolute nothing. WTF is this shit.

Modern History? Modern history is 1500AD onwards.

You mean sociology.

What even is that

Psychology is the worst one for it; in Sixth Form they insist on putting you through their reconditioning course to teach you that "All men are rapists and murderers; and women are always the victim, even if the rape claim is false: it signifies a rape culture and toxic patriarchal society!"

Also encourages sexual freedom and explorations into degenerate acts; very inappropriate for higher education imo.

"When" I get rich I'm going to have a cellar with a huge 19th century style model railway that has a battle going on at one section.

I did English lit at A-level. Was always at odds with the teacher. She tried to demote my coursework from an A to a B because I sided with Hughes and said Plath was a spoiled princess with daddy issues.
If you haven't done english then you don't know. All kids doing english at school, even at A-level are taught to analyse literature through a Marxist lense. When I asked her why we had to read the communist manifesto as part of a literature course she looked at me as if I was stupid. Its blatant indoctrination.

I have already watched this but I would like to know the background on it.

For a start: Why were the Police there in the first place

I deeply enjoy that company's social media now deliver bants

Thank you Sonic the Hedgehog twitter for this glorious trend.

He referred to himself as a European in one of his train documentaries.

>I did my A levels in college, I got into employment doing low skill level work and started earning my way from the bottom.

I did english lit for AS and we studied Tennessee Williams plays, the Great Gatsby, and Henry IV part 1
As well as Frost, and other poets
