Original Vinland settlers

Vikings are predominantly Danes, they were mixed with Huns and sold Europeans to Muslims.

Vikings were barbaric pirate rape gangs akin to the niggers of today.

North Europeans should have never been allowed to enter Rome.

there was a small area of land that was farmable so people looked over seas for better prospects at life the rus Vikings founded Russia and became the ruling family of Britain bla bla bla bla

>niggers
am, no.

> North Europeans should have never been allowed to enter Rome.
wtf are you smoking you fucking moron

The Danes went to England, the swedes to Russia, so although some swedes were the vikings we know. The mayority of Swedish raiders went to Russian lands

>Implying that Vikings were any more or less violent than any other group of people in the 600-1100s..

Keep at it, Burger.

Had the advantage of mobility and managed to build two (Swedish and Danish, don't know too much about Norwegians) loose "empires" in the 9th to 11th century. Eventually lost that advantage and it became more advantageous to join in with the christian/HRE sphere. Also that map is very wrong.

Vikingr wasn't a people but a way of life few actually chose. Most were farmers or tradesmen. Don't let the memes get to you. Viking or not their history is pretty cool.

The their ruler/king was called a Kagan, as recorded by Byzantine sources.

Aryan apologist try to claim the Vikings copied Turkic people.

>redpill me on vikings
how fucking retarded are you? Nothing to redpill. Go read a book or something.

You're almost correct. The term "Viking" came from actually "going viking", as in "landing on foreign shores" (vik = shore).

Norse tribes were mostly peaceful farmers, but with troubling times they resorted to fighting between themselves and eventually traveled across the seas and west to seek fortune and plunder.

The term "Viking" has been ruined by popular media. "Norseman" is more fitting.

AYOOO HOL` UP

SO

WE, THE LATVIANS

WE'RE VIKINGS TOO , TRUE

>Viking
I've heard different, more akin to parasites.

Swedish sphere of influence was the baltics and they raided in eastern Europe and Russia and are known to have reached Constantinopel. They also held on to paganism the longest. The Danish vikings were the most influential in their conquest of England etc.

Nordics were traders first and foremost, the raiding begun because Christians in Central Europe started cockblocking us. What many fail to realize is that Nordics have a history long before the Viking Age, shock huh? Some of the largest Bronze Age finds in Europe are from the Nordic Bronze Age.

It's a misconception that the Viking attack on Lindisfarne was the first time Nordics was there, after all Anglo-Saxons themselves were from Denmark / Northern Germany. There are Odin artifacts and runes etc around England 200 year before than the raids.

It's commonly noted that "Vikings" founded Kievan Rus, the ancestor to modern Russia, what no one seems to note is that Nordics lived in and travelled around the area for many centuries before. In the Poetic Edda it says that the area was inhabited by Nordic peoples since Scythia(which lasted from 11th century to 2nd century BC).

I'm sure you have. Tell me, what were those records based off? Consider for a moment that the only ones capable of writing shit down at that period would have been Christian monks - the same monks that got raided.

It's not like they had a vested interest in demonizing the Vikings, right? :D

Cove

Don't blindly trust Google Translate.

>WE WUZ VIKANGS
Kekmate

Swedish Vikings did in a way found the Rus, in so far in that they assumed command of the Rus' ruling class, but never having their culture really filter down in a way that made Nordic culture take root in eastern Europe.
And the reason the Vikings were initially hostile towards Christians was due to the Danes having fought of Charlemagne, who was really fucking into converting everyone he came across, it was something that was deeply ingrained into Scandinavian memory, and they really didnt like em.

You're correct. If memory serves I believe that the physical character "Wotan" (Odin) was a wanderer from Russia/Northern Finland.

The Vikings hated jews

>American education

They got chased out of our country by a handful of other Vikings.

lel

Norsemen refers to what we think of Vikings as today. I mean there were plenty of Anglo-Saxons who joined the Danes to plunder Wessex and Frankia (and the Med).

I trust you more with your language. Haha. I was always told "viking" meant seafarer or adventurer. Something along those lines.

>who allegedly descended from chieftains and kings in norway
kekur

Basically we were snow niggers.

Sailed around raping and looting while the Mediterraneans buildt the colosseum, aqueducts and the library of Alexandria

People like to give meaning to the words to fit their agenda. A "viking" was something you became once you joined a raid, and it stopped once you were done.

I love my Norse heritage, but I have been wrong from time to time.

One really good source of information is Arild Hauges runes: arild-hauge.com/

It's in Norwegian, but should be easily translated (even with Google). It's the single most comprehensive knowledge base about Vikings I have found.

Oh, and thank you for taking an interest in my ancestors.

Vikings settled in estuaries and coves like parasites, where the inland people could not fight them, Viking literally means 'people of the Cove'

>Trusting an Italian to tell a Norwegian how his language is translated.

Nice meme, friend.

Not at all, Vikings had an abundance of wood, which became the natural means for building et cetera.

Old Norse =/= Norwidgian

I dont think there's any consensus on where the roots of Asatro came from, I've honestly not read as much on the subject as I should.
I do not that Thursday does come from Thors day, and Thor, or a god of thunder exists in ancient Germanic religions as well, but with a slightly different name.

It basicly means Master of the shores or king of the shores

>Butthurt trälmunk detected.
Dont get so salty, we fucking founded half your cities and gave you infrastructure.

Your heritage is interesting and I am pretty sure your ancestors raped my Scottish ones somewhere down the line.

Thanks for the link. I will check it out when I get home later.

You should read the Poetic Edda some time, it says right there that Asgard is northeast of the Black Sea, which makes sense since Central Asia used to be European

Translate this.

I'll give you a hint - it's Norse runes, but English words.

>Danes

danes = germans

That's were you're wrong faggot, the Irish populated the locations were you settled, hence vaccinating themselves from new attacks. Plenty of towns and places were the Irish lived.

The closest "viking town" is actually Norman, the Viking settlement was near a bog and currently a roundabout and motorway exit lies adjacent to it.

Shit, I didn't realize that you were Irish until just now.. kek..

Substitute "Italian" for "Irish" and the same still applies.

The problem with the Edda is that it was written in the 13-14th century, by Icelandic Christians, so that while it does contain many ancient viking myths and stories, they are also written and told by a Christian, to Christians and is therefore like, shit-tier source material for finding out things that are true about vikings, it a bit of a 50-50 when it comes to the bullshit factor. Still some really great tales in there, which are still useful in someways.

If you want to see the DNA markers left by Normans, see pic related in Wales.

The Normans settled in South Wales, and they built a Network of castles to the North West, their genes lie directly along the line in pic related.

Bored waiting for reply............

REEEEEEEE FUCKING NORMANS

kek, I'm always thinking that

They are really good on water maps because of the longboat and all warships are discounted 20%. Also all infantry have bonus HP starting in the Feudal Age.
If only the berserkers weren't so weak.

I thought it said "if she would have been concepted" as in she was never born

Are you calling Dublin a bog? Because while people may have lived there earlier, the northmen settled it and vikings resettled it and made it into a proper town, they called it Dyflinn.
I get it though, I'd be salty too if I'd been an occupied country for more then a thousand years.

The bullshit factor is really overblown, the Eddic poems were not told by a Christian, written true. They were told by minstrels, who had it passed orally from singer to singer and from poet to poet for centuries. Most of them are far older than the Viking Age.

>off by a thousand years

Indeed they are, but oral tradition is not flawless, and things always do get seen through the eyes of its culture, now Scandinavian culture has managed to keep most of its older ways intact, so much of it might be like the way the vikings thought it to be.

I was referring to Waterford which was the longest lasting Viking kingdom in Ireland. the Kingdom of Waterford and the Isle of Man.

It was a vassal to the O'Brien clan.

Sure, but longest lasting doesnt mean the most important, or most influential. I'm not gonna lie and say I know tons of irish history though, but I do know Vikings founded many cities they then lost to the Normans.

How is this a thread on Sup Forums and not on /his/?

What is the political aspect?!

Europe is going down the drain, and you niggers spend your Saturday night arguing about vikings.

>lost to the Normans.
The Irish defeated all Vikings, the Normans were invited into Ireland by a Southern King to redress the balance of power.

The current Irish tourist board hype the viking bullshit, for obvious reasons.

>I am pretty sure your ancestors raped my Scottish ones somewhere down the line

No that was the English, you're welcome for the improvements.

>had mastery of iron working, agriculture and advanced ship designs
>are compared to niggers because of long houses
>medcucks think stone and marble is good for retaining heat

I couldn't give a toss about Europe or its future, I'm not invested in it.

Read about the Curonians.

just checking 4 KEK, nothin personnel

>personnel

NORMAN REEEEEEEEEEEE
