It had little comedic and romantic moments, and people came to expect these things in a Superman movie, and the movie made a point to show the violence and destruction as ugly and depressing, instead of inconsequentional like in most action movies.

Hijinks ensue as he tears through the fabric of time and space in order to get to the reporter girl from another dimension. Equipped with their darkest, most private secrets the weapons they need to conquer the heart of their other selves, DRAMA ensues as they begin to fall in love with each other instead and question the NATURE of BATHTUB SEX.

They took superman and changed him into whatever the fuck he is in the movies.
It's not a very smart movie either, it's messages don't line up with Superman ideals. It's more similar to a SJW Marvel story then fans like to admit. Politics and semantics, everyone's droopy, nobody is having fun, everything is dark, meanwhile DC comics is writing stories about Superman being heroic and being inspirational.
The movie fails on so many fronts trying to portray Superman because the creators don't understand superman. Not saying the movie wasn't well done, for a superhero film it was done very well, however the characterization of Superman is very flawed. It would have been a good elseworlds movie DESU.
