their actions are mostly in the grey area, semi legal stuff mostly with darker stuff flying under the radar.
they make loads of money from gambling, prostitution, drugs and similar salacious things, as well as from construction contracts and protection rackets.
its similar to what the Mafia does in the USA except the Japanese government had a formal agreement with them to keep things under control.
so Yakuza won't attack civilians and they get to keep their underground stuff to themselves
